Hi,
I went to a Ruematologist that I knew had prescribed low dose naltrexone to try to get him to prescribe that. I have hepatitis c induced fibro. Anyway he stated he hadn't had much luck with that and put me on lyrica. I also have been going through severe menopause symptoms mainly hot flashes and night sweats, plus restless leg, leg muscle pain and also have plantars fasciitis. I am also on adderall for ADHD and Wellbutrin for depression. Funny
I actually think of myself as fairly healthy until I wrote this haha.
I was taking 75 mgs 2 x day. I first noticed it knocked my hotflashes almost completely out. I would almost do heroin if someone had said it would do that, it also helped tremendously with generalized anxiety disorder that I have somewhat, completely knocked leg pain and restless leg, and even helped with the plantars fasciitis. BUT, I first noticed I would get up from lying position and my head would swim to where I would fall if I didn't sit back down. Second I lost short term memory almost to where I couldn't remember my 4 digit pin number, what I was doing one minute to the next and worse was total loss of some random simple word while speaking, ( very embarrassing). I thought it was from ADHD menopause combo but it was even too severe for that. Third my hair is thinning not falling out more just not growing hardly any new hair. Forth I lost a half bottle of it and didn't worry until I went through withdrawel from hell. I got more 11/2 day later and in fact found the bottle I had lost in the back of the fridge sigh........
I then went on the net and read all the horrible side affects. I told my doc I wanted to wean off it and am now down to one 50 mg pill a day. Oh and I didn't gain any weight but I have been on a strict diet to loose and not blowing it at all and have only lost 10 lbs in the 4-5 months I've been on it. The amount I eat and what I eat should have resulted in about a 25 lb min weight loss. I know if I was eating like I used to I would have gained about 50lbs now. I also have been very temperamental and fighting depression again which the Wellbutrin had successfully taken care of prior. I also noticed that the return of my hotflashes they are more severe now ( had no idea that was possible) and I am just heat intolerant now.
I finally got the doc to prescribe me the low dose naltrexone which has helped a lot with pain and fatique caused from the hep c.
If he had only listened and prescribed it to me in the first place instead if this expensive almost impossible to get off of, drug company's dream! I am already on one drug that I can't just abruptly stop taking but he never told my lyrica would be that way.
My plans now are to completely wean off of the lyrica, then the Wellbutrin which I mad replacing with cognitive behavioral and mindfulness training, heal my gut ( I also suffer from IBS) Try to do alternatives for my ADHD, so as not to take adderall, and become gluten wheat and dairy free. I don't want to take anything but low dose naltrexone, supplements, good non GMO foods and get treatment for hep c as soon as the new drugs for it get FDA approved, that are not as harmful.
