Diet / Weight Loss Overview

Dieting is the practice of eating food in a regulated and supervised fashion to decrease, maintain, or increase body weight. In other words, it is conscious control or restriction of the diet. A restricted diet is often used by those who are overweight or obese, sometimes in combination with physical exercise, to reduce body weight. Some people follow a diet to gain weight (usually in the form of muscle). Diets can also be used to maintain a stable body weight and improve health. In particula...

How much is too much Contrave
1 Reply RSS
I've been on Contrave for a year and now I'm starting to notice my appetite returning. I lost 70 lbs and don't want to go backwards but I'm literally starving all the time. Can I take 3 at one time instead of two and then two at night? Is that too much? I haven't had any side effects. ## No, you should not adjust your dosage, without your doctor's approval. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, insomnia, and anorexia. Has anything else changed in your normal daily routine? Are you on any other medications?

contrave and sleepiness
36 Replies RSS
I started contrave 4 days ago, today being my 5th dose. every day, i take the pill about 8am and by 9:30-10am I am so sleepy I can't stand it. Days 1 and 2 I managed to fight it off until about 12-12:30, day 3 until about 1-1:30, and day 4 I fought it off until 3pm. If I take a 1-2 hour nap, I wake up fine, with energy and then cannot get to sleep until about 2am, sometimes 3am. Today is day 5, I'm having that "drunk" feeling and sleepy, but no where near how it has been. It seems this effect is slowly wearing off, but I haven't seen anywhere where this is a common side effect. I know all medications effect everyone differently, so I'm wondering if this is something I should be concerned about, or just another side effect that I will get used to as the weeks go o...

Itching from Contrave
21 Replies RSS
I have been taking Contrave for three weeks and have developed itching on the insides of my hands and the bottoms of my feet. Has anyone else experienced this? ## Hello, Arlie! How are you? Do you have a rash, or just the itching? Contrave has been known to cause a rash as a side effect, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache and insomnia. Are you on any other medications? The itching could be due to a circulation problem. ## No rash. No other meds. Nothing new besides the Contrave. ## There's a chance that it's affecting your circulation, which can cause itching. Have you had it checked out by your doctor, yet? Has it improved, at all? ## I have cut the dosage in half (one pill in the morning and one in the evening) and no longer have the itch...

Contrave/contrave

I've been taking contrave for 4 weeks now (2 pills in morning and 2 in evening) for the first 3 weeks I felt nauseous, anxiety, and heart rate was amped up but all that disappeared at week 4. I did notice a decrease in appetite week 3-4 and I'm also not munching or eating late at night but I still haven't lost any weight! Should I wait it out and see how it works? Is it too soon to tell? I was really counting on this and I feel like my hopes are shut down ## Has there been any change? It can take awhile for the medication to reach its full level of efficacy in the body, before you really know how well it will work for you. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, and insomnia. Are you also watching your diet and m...

Contrave Dosage Question
2 Replies RSS
My doctor prescribed to take this as 2 pills 2x per day. Not a ramp up like I read about online - has anyone else done this? I have not started taking the pills yet. ## You really should gradually increase it. It isn't fun gradually, it has to really suck taking it all at once. I would think it could hurt you taking it all straight away. The dr will write the rx for the full amount but either tell the pt to gradually increase or give them a sheet of paper. He gave me a pamphlet from the company that makes it. Ive found this to be common with other medicines that had to be brought up to a full dose over time. You should call and ask your doctor what you should do and tell them about the titration schedule. He may not know about it. I've had to inform my doctors about a lot of thi...

Oligo Care tablet Is Effective ?
21 Replies RSS
Doctor prescribe the oligocare Tab i have Sperm count 28 million motility less then 20 can you advice to take that tablet ## Oligocare is a nutritional supplement, it is given to help with fertility issues in men, because sometimes a lack in the vital nutrients it contains can contribute to fertility issues, such as a low sperm count. However, whether or not it will help you depends on what has caused your problem. As a nutritional supplement, there is really no known harm to taking it to see if it will help you, unless a doctor has specifically instructed you not to take it. Are there any other comments or questions? ## Oligocare, benefits and side effects. ## can oligo care tabs boost sperm count of 10ml and low motility? ## My sperm count of sluggish motile are 40% And actively motil...

Belviq side effects
4 Replies RSS
Just began taking Belviq and have quickly developed a nasty sore throat and sinusitis. Has anyone else had this side effect? If so how long does it last? ## Hello, Shoogy! How are you? Yes, those can be side effects of Belviq, they've been reported by others. They may last 4 weeks, or so, while your body is getting used to the medication, but then should taper off in severity. If not, then it may not be the right medication for you to take and you may need to switch to something else. You may also experience blurred vision, fatigue and muscle spasms. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I started Belviq 4 days ago. How long will the tiredness and muscle stiffness last? It's a chore to go up and down stairs. I started taking B12 yesterday hoping it will help. Thanks. ## I h...

contrave - starting with 1/2 pill in morning
2 Replies RSS
Has anyone had any experience with taking just half a pill in the morning to begin with? I have been reading all of the reviews of this drug so would like to know if perhaps taking half the initial dose would give the body time to adjust to it. ## Even though they say not to split the pills, my gyne told me to start with a half at night. Didn't have any issues. ## You should take the dosage your doctor has instructed you to take. Generally you are supposed to start at a lower amount, and go up gradually over a month, until reaching the known effective dosage. The FDA warns that this medication may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, mood swings, and insomnia. Is there anything else I can help with?

how long does it take to get contrave out of your system
5 Replies RSS
I need to reduce my intake of Contrave because of side affects. I'm cutting back from 4 pills to 3. How long does it take for Contrave to reduce in my system so that I don't have the severe symptoms? ## Hello, Penni! How are you feeling? Has there been any improvement, yet? What side effects have you been experiencing? When it comes to this medication, it depends on which ingredient is causing the symptoms. The Naltrexone in it only takes about a day, but the Bupropion may take about a week, based on the FDA listed half-lives. ## I saw my doctor yesterday. We have reduced my dosage to 2 pills a day to see if that helps. If not than next week I'll go down to 1 a day. My worst symptoms out of several are hot flashes & nausea. ## I've only been taking contrave for a wee...

Stopping Contrave prior to surgery? How long???
1 Reply RSS
I've been on Contrave for 6 months with some slight success. I've lost about 6 lbs, but I also have not gained any weight, which is at least a step in the right direction. I don't follow all the rules and don't exercise enough. I was initially scheduled to have ENT surgery for a severe sinus infection in 2 days (Wednesday). Surgery has now been moved to 8 days (following Tuesday). My GP told me today that I should off Contrave for 2 weeks prior to surgery because of the naltrexone, because it might interfere with anesthesia. I've looked online and cannot find any mention this. She also told be that because the naltrexone dose (8mg) is so I need to check with the anesthesiologist to be sure. I called the surgeon's office and his nurse called the anesthesiologist w...
