Hydrocodone Urine Test (Top voted first)

Updated

I just tasted a little lortab, not even 2 mg and I had to drug test about 12 hours later. I had a urine test that was sent to the lab. Will this show up? I have not been taking anything at all for a long time.

I did not fail the test.

Kevin, Ethylglucuronide (EtG) is a late phase minor metabolite of ethanol. The purpose of the EtG test is to extend the window of detection for alcohol consumption. A beer, for instance, will be detectable in urine for only about 1.5-2 hours. EtG created will be detectable for about 20 hours. If you drink quite a lot EtG excretion could be as long as 90-100 hours or as short as 48-60. Usually the test is used in total abstinence situations.

My current doctor prescribes me Lyrica for my fibromyalgia but cut off my Lortabs for my cronic back pain. Would it be illegal to go to another doctor that would be willing to give me Lortab and continue to see my current doctor for Lyrica??? I would be seeing 2 different doctors for 2 different medications.

Kevin, yes, that is giving your liver a double whammy!

Regular intake of alcohol definitely has an effect on your liver and the Lortab contains Acetaminophen, and the long term use of it can also have detrimental effects on the liver, as well as other body organs.

https://rxchat.com/wiki/Lortab/

On top of the possible liver issues that you are creating, you may also be doing a severe number on your stomach, so you may end up with conditions such as ulcers or gastritis.

While it may seem that they are causing no problems right now, these types of issues usually start very slowly, with no symptoms and are pretty severe by the time you show symptoms and are diagnosed.

Are there any other questions?

I went a week this month feeling pain free enough not to take any but the last few days have had horrible pain and been taking 2 or 3 at a time. My appointment is in the morning. Will the be able to see that i have been doubling up last few days or just see that its in my system not mattering how much or little is in my system

Good to hear Lisa. I go to doc in an hour to see results of mine. Hopefully the level isnt too high as i am in severe pain cause I havent had pain meds since Saturday. I dont get how they can cut me off so suddenly just based on what the results may or may not show.

Kevin, the reason they can cut you off is because, under current U.S. law, no doctor is obligated to treat you, for any reason, unless you are in an emergency status. If your life is in danger, a medical professional must give life saving care, be it at an accident site, by the side of the road, in their office, at a hospital or etc.

However, whether or not you are their current patient, if you are not in immediate, life threatening danger, they do not have to treat you, they do not have to prescribe anything and, at any time at their own discretion, they can choose to stop doing so.

Just because you are seeing a doctor, there is no obligation for either one of you to continue the relationship.

I do, however, wish you the best of luck and hope that it doesn't happen to you.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Wow Verwon thanks for the info. Mine says for Alcohols NEGATIVE but for Ethyl Glucuronide >5000 POSITIVE. Ido drink alot. Does that mean something is wrong with me?? Why would alcohols be negative but the ethyl be positive and >5000. He didnt say anything about it. never said I could or could not drink while taking Lortab. How long would I have tonot drink beer to have the ethyl come back Negative??

I believe DrBill has it covered.

These types of metabolites are what shows up after something has already been processed through your body system. So, it's a little different than just checking for alcohol. He also gave the time ranges, which match closely with my research.

(Thanks, DrBill!)

As to the reasons there are sometimes warnings for people not to drink when they are taking various medications, it usually has to do with the fact that it can aggravate the side effects, like the dizziness, nausea and drowsiness, that the Lortab can cause.

For many people, this can result in one drink being equal to 2 and so on.

The Hydrocodone in it can also cause central nervous system depression, which results in lowered blood pressure, lowered breathing rate and lowered pulse, the alcohol can also perpetuate that effect and if someone is taking very high doses of narcotics and drinking, it can result in serious complications, which can include respiratory arrest or cardiac arrest.

So, while I have nothing against drinking, I do enjoy a glass or two of a good Cabernet on a regular basis myself, however, I would strongly encourage you to very careful, when drinking while taking the narcotic. Especially if you're doubling or tripling the dosage. Monitor yourself for any problems breathing or extremely low heart rate and seek emergency care, if necessary.

Does anyone else have anything to add?

Is there anything I could take to enhance to effects of Lortab without just taking more Lortab??? Like a vitamin supplement or anything?? My dosage doesnt seem to be working like it always has lately.

Kevin, did you talk to your doctor about that?

It is highly likely that your body is just getting used to this dosage, so it's not as effective for you as it once was. This is perfectly normally and happens to everyone that uses any type of medication, though the time frame can vary, depending on the individual.

I see you said you were taking one with 7.5mgs of Hydrocodone in it, there is also one available with 10mgs of Hydrocodone in it.

As to enhancing its pain relieving effects, I don't know of any scientifically proven methods using over the counter products, but I can tell you what some people have posted on here, that they have said works for them.

I can't vouch for the safety or efficacy of these methods.

One woman recently posts that she accidentally discovered very good, beneficial effects from taking Mucinex, it contains Guaifenesin and is normally used to reliever congestion. It is available over the counter, in many stores, as the name brand or generic/store brands. She claimed it even helps with her pain more than her narcotic medications.

https://rxchat.com/wiki/Guaifenesin/

Some others have posted saying that they take their opiate pain pills with an acid reducer, such as Tagamet (Cimetidine) or Pepcid (Famotidine) and that they help their medications to last longer and have a better effect.

https://rxchat.com/wiki/Cimetidine/

https://rxchat.com/wiki/Famotidine/

Others have made claims about using it with other medications, such as Nyquil:

https://rxchat.com/wiki/NyQuil/

Like I said, I don't know if any of this is safe to try, because some of these can also enhance the side effects of a narcotic and this is purely going by posts on here and what people have talked about giving each other advice.

The safest thing to do, of course, would be to just talk to your doctor about it and see if they can prescribe the higher dosage of Lortab.

Any other questions?

Thanks again Verwon. I have considered asking for higher dosage or for one more pill a day but am afraid to ask him. He seems eager to cut people off and what he gives me is better than nothing. I afraid if I ask him for more cause its not helping the pain as much anymore he will just think I am addicted or something and cut me off completely. Kind of a catch 22 situation. I feel like I should just shut up and take what he'll give me even though I need more to remain pain free.

I am under a contract with my doctor and suddenly he says he can not prescribe me LorTab because his hands are tied because the hospital owns him. I signed a contract over a year ago but wasn't sure of the specifics. i thought it was just so I couldnt doctor shop. Now that I have to suffer in pain all the time again I was wondering if anyone knows how I can get out of the contract and see another doctor or perhaps what it is I may have signed??? Please help. I feel trapped into staying with this doctor who refuses to listen to me and help me.

Kevin, without seeing the contract to know the exact specifics, I can't say with any certainty, however, most of those are generally close to what you thought it was. They say you agree to not doctor shop, or get multiple medications from different doctors, while you are under treatment with this. If you do so, then they have the right to drop you as a patient.

Contract or not, regardless of what it says, a doctor cannot make you remain as their patient in the U.S. It is your right to go see another doctor and remove yourself from their patient roster, at any time. As long as you aren't seeing multiple doctors, for multiple prescriptions, there is no law breaking being done and you are free, at any time, to go see a different doctor.

Are there any other comments or questions?

Thank you so much. So I can just go see another doctor and never see him again?? I was afraid if I even saw another doctor I was breaking the law. This brought much relief. Thanks

Kevin, you'd be breaking the law if you tried to doctor shop and see more than one at the same time, for multiple prescriptions. However, if you are just completely switching, no it is not illegal. It is your right in the U.S. to do so at any time.

They are not obligated to treat you and you are not obligated to continue seeing them.

This doesn't detail all the specifics, but some basic information is available:

https://rxchat.com/wiki/U.S._Patients'_Bill_of_Rights&ad=true

And Kevin, you are very welcome. I am always happy to help, if I can.

Are there any other comments of questions?

Kevin, if you hide it from both doctors, yes, that can create a problem. It would basically be considered deception to obtain prescription medications, which is considered illegal.

It also isn't safe, since every doctors you see should be aware of all the other medications you are taking, so they don't prescribe something that may cause a dangerous interaction.

In this case, if you need the narcotic pain medication, because the Lyrica isn't quite doing the job, your best bet is to just switch doctors, entirely.
