How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 31)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

I have been on suboxen for 4-5 years. I'm down to an 1/8th of an 8mg. I can't seem to get any further. Help. I read somewhere amino acids help. I hate the doctor I went to. First he said they had a great success rate then they told me I would be on them forever.

Stuck where are you located you mean being on the addict drug forever; sure it's all relative these addiction physicians 90% of time are IMEs making a fortune off insurance companies; for example you have a work injury they send you for pain management then after years decide you are going for an IME who tells you that you are an addict (you are not you are physically tolerant to opioids for pain BUT insurance companies want you cheap and dead is cheapest) so now you believe them you are going to a large money making QUACK QUACK QUACK who gathers 10 x the going rate for now the insurer is not paying your monthly opioid bill and if they have pushed you to a no care situation (period of time without treatment or care you are so desperate) and then they settle you while you are sick sick sick; the QUACK makes a fortune you get a tenth of what the damage was done and suddenly do not have a medication annuity for pain so some other agency will be paying it eventually for you still have pain.

If you are a true addict (say opiates or pills and cannot stop pushing and using) then this drug is still a danger but the real danger is the QUACK leading the group under him that he tortures and abuses with a drug that will make it impossible for you to find a good pain management physician again. Why? Because due to Odumma care, and his hatred for chronic illness and people over 30 living through illness you are a moving target he intends on lining up (if he could hang longer then 8 years NOT) and will invariably bring you down, with the rest of us.

Sorry had to get that off my chest.

Stuck I wrote a lengthy response it is important to get you another physician.

Clearly this one is upsetting you creating a reduction with him/her seems futile yes.

Hang in there.

Hopefully they will post my long one soon.

I was taking Suboxone for about 6 or 7 months on and off. I would get 2 8mg strips on a Friday night and then take one Friday and the the second one on Saturday. Then I wouldn't take them for a week or two sometimes. I would take Kratom though. I finally decided to stop and I had withdrawal symptoms. They were RLS, insomnia, depression, anxiety and extreme tiredness. I have not taken one in about a month but I have been taking Kratom everyday and I had planned in weening of those and be through with it all once and for all. I just took one suboxone and the next day it made sick. I wad throwing up and slept all day. Today I feel alright. I want to know if I will experience withdrawals from suboxone again when it gets out off my symptoms in about 3-4 more days?

Call it what you like. You have answered the issue with Tramadol. Because it works on the same receptors the brain doesn't know the difference. To the Brain it is an opiate.....and that is why people withdraw from it. For example no one detox's from aspirin or anti- inflammatory's so what is the big difference ? It is the brain, after all, that's running the show. This argument makes no sense.

I am so happy for you that you were actually able t remain strong-willed and hang in there with the suboxone. I am a chronic pain pt,my Dr left town so I began the methadone clinic(even though I truly feel I do not belong there). The people t very nice,I'm not being judgemental..its just the program doesn't help 'me',being drug addict based.. Hoping very soon I get into a new chronic pain Dr though! But for now I'm doing as I must just to make it,nothing more, nothing off the streets of course...Still in pain, will always have y deal with after surviving a horrible car wreçk unfortunately.. But Hey:)..happy2b here! Anyway, what I would like 2ask is...does suboxone/or subutex help chronic pain as well? Thanks for any input ahead of time!!

Thoebe the brain DOES know and there is a reason why.

Ultram was created for addicts not for pain. It raises seizure threshold and is a danger on other levels. It is a mixed agonist antagonist.

Agonist would be drugs such as Oxycodone or Hydrocodone and Morphine.

Antagonist is a drug that reverses the agonist in part leaving the person poorly controlled and potentially in withdrawal.

The only reason it is now controlled is some people susceptible to addiction thought it caused a high it causes closer to anxiety and other issues then euphoria and is piss poor for pain control.

Jewels I am proud of you but that drug on your record (medical) will make it highly difficult to get a pain specialist. Going to an addiction specialist is the worst. If you are at this clinic you must have told them you are a pain client and need help. Methadone is an excellent and the very cheapest form of LA medication on the market (Hitler created it when they ran out of poppy back in his era) but the drugs you speak of just label you and do little if nothing for pain.

There is a generation of PM patients starting (God help us) who are starting these addiction drugs first so they think they control pain. Hell to the no they do not. Methadone does kill pain but I'm sure if you've read my posts on other topics there are other issues with it.

If you are reporting to a Methadone clinic take the Methadone some PM's won't prescribe it later and some pain clients swear it is far superior to any drug for pain, BUT if you go this route make sure that other crap is out of your body or you will be so dope sick you will wish you were not here!

Peace out.

I am on my 9th day of suboxone withdrawal/ PAWS. I used for a little over 3 years from taking anywhere between 8mg to 12mg a day. I have done A Lot of drugs in my time and have been addicted to Percs, Oxycotin, the Big H and more! I was able to kick All of them and feel better within a little over a week. This stuff here is the Devil though. I jumped off at 1/2 mg. But tapered To Fast! Like a week and then jumped. It's been pure hell. The first 5 days were absolutely Horrific. Stomach problems, restless legs, Hot and cold and sweating constantly, irritated, So So Tired considering I've got like No sleep. But on day 7 I did get a little more sleep. I took 2 melatonin and some sleepytime tea and 1 Trazadone. I slept for at least 7 hours and woke up on day 8 feelin So Much Better! When I woke up I took a one a day woman's vitamin, plus amino acid and a vitamin B Complex. Also drank a ton of water. I was able to do Just Dance with my young daughter. And was just in a Wonderful mood All Day. I really thought that was the end of it. Boy was I wrong. Today on day 9 I woke up with hot and cold, stomach hurting, and just haven't wanted to do Anything. I'm really hoping and praying tomorrow when I wake up I'll feel like I did yesterday. I have 2 children that is really hard to take care of and be happy but I gotta keep pushing myself! I just keep telling myself that this isn't gonna last forever "This to shall pass" Fortunately I have a Very supporting husband so that does help a lot! Whoever is reading this and going through what I am just hang in there and stick it out! You can Do It! Mind Over Matter. Good Luck to you all and God Bless

Sarah thank you for showing people this is not the answer. We all know Methadone is as addictive and has it's own song and dance but you become marked if a legitimate pain client on this stuff and your story is a life saver for those lied to by so called addiction specialists I am beginning to think many of them are murderers.

Thank you! An I couldn't agree more with you! I truly believe the doctors are in it for the money and that just makes me sick!!! Cause let's face it. They almost Always put you on a To high of a dose and when you do want to taper down they Always say " Oh No I don't think you're ready . Suboxone should ONLY be used coming off of a Very strong opiate. An can not last any longer than a month at the monst

Also I wanted to let you guys know how I'm doing on my 10th day. It almost feels like my 8th day which was Great. Then yesterday took a few steps back and just felt like crap again. The restless leg came back last night with a vengeance :( I only got a few hours of sleep but that a hell of a lot better than none! It's pretty early here. I gotta get my daughter up soon and take her to school. I really don't wanna go anywhere but whenever I push myself to go out (just for under an hour) I do feel So Much Better!! Gonna go take my vitamins that I had mentioned yesterday. An Drink Lots and Lots of water. Stomach still feels pretty bad, still a little hot and cold but at least the sweating has stopped. My shirts the first 7 days were Always soaked with sweat Ugh glad that part is over. Oh hot bathes with ebson salt help A Lot too! I couldn't even get in the tub the first 6 or 7 days. I just couldn't stand Freezing when it come time to get out. So far through this I have lost 10lbs which puts me at 123lbs. Cause I either can't eat. Don't want to ect. But the last couple days I made myself eat little things. Like some grapes, cereal and crackers. Well I'll try to write in this evey couple days to let you see that it really doesn't last Forever. Yes it lasts a long time but just look at it as your body is fixing itself. Good Luck to all and God blese

I'm proud of you. I've been tapering but I had a hell of a lot left so I kept going back to about 2mg which was comfortable for me. I had 44 8mg strips when I decided to taper. It only took me a week to get to 2mg from 12 mg. I can't believe how much they prescribe some people. I came off of two years of opiates and they put me on 12mg while there was a person in my IOP coming off of 20mg of Vicodin a day that they put on 24mg. They pretty much give you what you want. I'm down to 3 strips and I'm gonna taper down from my 2mg starting tomorrow and I'm done. I'm done I'm done I'm done.

Make sure you taper Very slowly! If I was you I'd go down to 1/12mg for 3 days then stay on 1 mg for 2 days. Then 1/2 mg for 2 or 3 days then 1/4 mg for about 3 days then if you have any left over cut them smaller than the 1/4th (tiny tiny pieces) and keep taking that for as many days as possible. Then jump. It's still gonna be pretty hard but have faith in yourself! If I have come this far I know you can and will!!!! Just remember the pain is only temporary. Good Luck to you. And Pray Pray Pray.

The buprenorphine has a healthy half-life of 36 hrs. This means that symptoms of withdrawal should last the better part of a month. For longtime users, symptoms of opioid withdrawal may be present after 45 days.

Sarah and others I am an ultra rapid opioid metabolizer and if I do not get a new PM specialist soon will die as I have progressed to Central Pain Syndrome the new restrictions by the FDA and the fact that I was seeing the top specialist 5 years; he is in California I'm in Texas threw 30 of us out with new regs in California. Basically left to die I just know some of you are legitimate pain clients or could be and this drug is just a piss poor excuse; it categorizes you when other physicians hear you went on it and so forth. For those with intractable pain it is not a substitute.

You guys are awesome and should be proud.

Well today I am on day 11 :) I feel pretty good this morning. Still having stomach issues, and was really hard to get to sleep but once I finally fell asleep I slept like a baby. I think the melatonin helped. Plus I took some Valerian Root which I think helped tremendously! I was so worried I'd wake up feelin horrible again but Nope. I feel pretty happy. I've found that Music helps A Lot too! I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and it feels GREAT!!!!!! EVERYONE GOING THROUGH THIS DO NOT GIVE UP! IT CAN BE DONE.
GOD BLESS you all
