When taking a urine drug test, does oxycontin and oxycodone come up as the same drug? I took a 40mg oxycontin on a monday and was drug tested on thurs. I am tested once a month from my pain mangement dr. to make sure my oxycodone's are in my system. So will the 2 drugs show up as one or is there a differance in them with the drug test?

I took a drug screen an it came up positive for opinion amp Benz what does mean I took Xanax and a 30 mg oxycodine what does Amp OPI and Benz mean?

A false positive for cocaine is possible if you're taking certain antibiotics.

There is NO POSSIBLE WAY you can get away with crushing your meds and putting it in your urine. These tests check for the METABOLITES of the drug & NOT the actual drug, as well as the levels of the prescribed drug. It takes several days to have the correct levels, so you can't wait till the day before or day of your appointment and take a couple. They will know. If your pain meds are vital for your quality of life, it's best to avoid any other drugs you're not prescribed. I've been there, I've ran out and taken 3-4 hydros or morphines a few days before my appointment & BOTH times they DID show up. I was honest & luckily have a caring doctor, BUT ..Im not trying to BS him. Believe me, they've heard it all. Lying will only make you more suspect. On the other hand if you are scamming, YOU WILL BE FOUND OUT.

Hi again, Sulve! Since Percocet is an immediate release form of oxycodone, skipping 1 or 2 on a better pain day shouldn't be a problem in terms of blood test checks. (I would add that if you're finding you can pretty much ALWAYS skip a couple, it may be time for a dose decrease!) If you take 1 of those skipped pills as an extra dose on an extra bad day, you should also be fine. If your levels are really low when you're tested, it creates concern that you may be selling them which is why they check. But again, 1 or 2 less or extra now and then shouldn't matter. Hi Adele I have 1 more question. If I am taking 6 percocet in 24 hrs according to the Rx but there are days I don't need to do that amount will that show up in the urine test or vice versa, if I go over 1 or 2?

Hi, Sulve! Percocet consists of a combination of oxycodone and Tylenol. Oxycontin consists of plain oxycodone, only it's in a timed release form rather than an immediate release form like the oxycodone in Percocet. Since both Percocet and Oxycontin are simply two different forms of oxycodone, they will both show up in a test as oxycodone. Bottom line, if you take a leftover Oxycontin on a bad pain day, it won't show up any differently than Percocet.

You sound quite smart in this area so may i ask, i have just started with a pm Dr who gave me percocet 5/325 and i still have some oxycontin from last year if i use the oxycontin on really bad pain days will it show up in my urine at the Dr office and if it does how much time does is take to be out of my system before the test? Thank you for answering my question I really appreciate it!

Kevin, I couldn't agree more. It is abusers and those who are taking narcotic pain medications for a high rather than for treating real pain that make it so difficult for people like you (and me!) who are actually in agony to get appropriate medication. And you're right about the fact that many doctors have become too nervous to prescribe opioids even when it's the right thing to do because they're afraid of being labeled as pill pushers or over-prescribers and afraid of losing their license. I understand (and I suspect you understand also) that when you're in terrible pain, it's really tempting to take extra of whatever pain medication you're prescribed. But you're right--it's better to let your doctor know that your current dose just isn't taking care of the pain. If your doctor won't listen, find another doctor--one who takes your pain seriously, right? As for those who sell their pain meds, those people need to realize how much harder that kind of behavior makes life for people who live in agony. It is inexcusable. My heart goes out to you and to all those who suffer unnecessarily because the abusers and mis-users of narcotics have made our lives even more difficult and painful than they already are. And it sounds like your life is pretty difficult and painful. My sympathies to you.:-)

Yes, I am and proud of it. Try walking around on a broken back for 1 and 1/2 YEARS because the Army did not want to do anything about it, only to be stationed in a different country and learning that you need emergency surgery because of. like you said ignorant doctors that did not have a clue. The only sleep I got was from total exhaustion and then only long enough until the pain woke me up again. I still did not take any extra pain medication. If your doctor will not listen, GET A NEW DOCTOR THAT DOES, but do not take it upon yourself to increase your dose that is why you have a doctor. As far as shame on me, no shame on all the people that are abusing their medications and forcing the doctors into strict guidelines imposed by the government to combat the abusers or risk loosing their ability to practice medicine. I have suffered tremendously because there are so many so called Pain Patients that are either just trying to get a free HIGH, or peddling their prescription pain medication to others. It is not shame on me it is shame on the ABUSERS.

Pretty self-righteous, aren't you, Kevin? I agree that many people abuse their meds and make it hard for the rest of us. But you have also have no idea if their pain may be far worse than yours. Or perhaps they're undermedicated and just can't stand the pain any longer. I have a great doc now who actually listens to me and treats my pain appropriately and adequately. But I went through many years of having the severity of my pain blown off by ignorant doctors who insisted it simply couldn't be that bad. While I still took my meds according to instructions, it was hell, pure and simple. I was unable to function because of the pain and spent my days in agony. Unless you're feeling someone else's pain, you can't know what they're experiencing and assume it's just like yours and if you can deal with YOUR pain, they should be able to deal with theirs without taking extra meds. Shame on you!

What if u have a old script but not over a year old and had a reAly bad month but it's not the same as what u are perceived this month and had to take from old script wood that be dirty ua one is oxycoden and one is oxymorphone

I was blown up in Iraq and live with constant pain, every hour every day but I still only take my medication as prescribed. So to all that are complaining or worried because you did not take your meds as prescribed don't get mad at the pain Doctor for dismissing you as a patient, it is because of people like you that the rest of us are treated like crap. I have never been worried about a UA and have never failed a UA. Bottom line QUIT ABBUSSING YOUR MEDS.

JD Boss I too look ok on the outside, but I'm degenerating herniated, stenosis, narrowing of my Lumbar L3-L5 to S1 and a pituitary cyst a constant pain in my head. I moved back down south, and let me tell ya ,those ppl running patients from up.north to FL so messed everything up for me, my doses have been cut. I usually run out on the the 25th day. I also have painful heavy menstrual cycles, then my headaches get worse, so because these addicts and pain clinic totally messed it up, my doses for all my meds now cut in half because of the law says so, and I'm trying my hardest to make it through to 28 days. I'm scared to increase or change my meds because the pharmacy won't have it, or just won t fill it. FL :-/ gone mad but I was reading all theses articles and yes them dr s over prescribed the ones that were convicted some physicians got no punishment, these dr s were signing a stack of blank prescriptions....I was in awe and disgust...now I'm feeling the pain and somehow still ppl that don't need them seem to have them

You'll be fine. They rarely mess with people for having too much in their system. If you only took 1 extra, they won't even be able to tell that.

I took a UA at my Dr last Friday. I've had a cruddy flu and I've taken some cold/decongestant stuff to help over the last week. Late yesterday, Mon, I was asked by my Dr's office to come in for another UA. Which I planned on taking today, Tues. I had a migraine last night throughout this morning and need to have a urine test today for pain management meds oxycontin 30mg 2X a day, for breakthrough a 750mg hydrocodone 1 up to 4X daily as needed, 1 fiorocet 6X a day as needed, Zanaflex,1 Plavix, 138mcg synthroid, 200mg providgial 2X a day, Phenergan as needed as well. I'm concerned bc my migraines cause intense nausea. I vomited shortly after taking my am dose of my meds and could see my meds in my vomit. I was miserable in pain suffering like crazy and decided to only take take another 30mg oxycontin bc I thought it was out of my system. I'm afraid I have too much in my system now bc the 1st oxycontin may not have come out with my vomit.. something that didn't occur to me until now. Will this drug urine screen show higher levels of my long lasting pain med? Should I inform my physician of what occurred today, that I took an additional oxy before I take this UA? Or wait to see if get a bad response to say something? Should I wait a day before I go to the Dr so my levels are more accurate? Can a UA even show the levels of my meds? I also suffer from a DNA deformity that goes by MTHFR. It's caused many health issues throughout my life and I wonder if that alone can show inaccurate levels? Please help me with the truth regarding urine evals. Any recommendations as to what I should do bc my head is killing me, I'm continuing to vomit and I can't think well whIle feeling so badly.

I am a drug counselor and do drug testing often, there are many things that can throw off a test everything from cough medicine that can show up as alcohol to , to much ibuprofen the test positive for THC. The doctor should have told him what he tested positive for and if it was the same thing both times. Also most doctors will let you go on the first positive unless its THC. So the odds that he would come up positive dirty and then clean is easier to prove since THC stays in your system for up to thirty days, also if he is heavier and works a job where he sweats alot it can call for a false positive. The thing to do is would be to tell the doctor you want it sent to an outside lab usually its costs about 20 dollars, also it is imperative that when the urine is collected the specimen never leaves your husbands sight. EVER and if sent out he signs a for and the container and it must be refrigerated. I hope this helps.

Lulu, you sure do like to say revelatory a lot. Do you even know what that means?

As for that woman and her situation, I don't think you know what her situation is. She was on here saying her husband was kicked out of his pain management because he failed a drug test for cocaine which she claims happened because someone put it in his drink while he was working as a DJ. Tell me how she has a bad situation here or a problem other than a problem with denial or a problem with her husband? It didn't sound like she has a drug problem and it definitely didn't sound like she believed her husband had a drug problem because she said a number of times that the reason the cocaine was in his system was because someone else put it in his drink.

As for my education and career, you really think that it's just arithmetic? That really shows your ignorance. There's a lot more to public accounting than arithmetic. Anyone that has as much education as you claim to have would know that. I highly doubt you have the degrees you claim to have. If you did, you wouldn't have said "your degree in arithmetic" and a lot of other things you said. It's not "my supposed degrees in arithmetic" that makes me smarter than you. It's because I am smarter than you. It's not hard to tell by the way you write and the things you say that it's all an act and you are trying to appear to be smarter than you really are.
