I took one (1) week of the new generic drug (Budeprion XL) and went to my doctor's appointment. She told me that the Wellbutrin XL now has a generic pill but I was not to take the generic. I told her I had just refilled my prescription and received the generic brand, so she wrote a new prescription for Brand Only. I don't know what the difference is, but thought it might be useful information for someone out there. ## I know this was submitted years ago, but still today, in 2011, I can not take the generic Wellbutrin. I have tried here and there over 6 years to take the generic and it is like I am not taking anything. My insurance pays almost nothing toward the brand and I pay $280 a month out of pocket, but this medication works so well for me, that it is worth it. I have howev...

Ive been prescribed Wellbutrin xl 150 once daily for perimenapausal symptoms, mainly severe hot flashes. Today is my 11th day. Can anyone tell me please how long I should give this dose. To date I don't see that its helped. After reading many stories on this forum, it sounds like I should give it some time. ## It should take you more or less one month for the Wellbutrin XL to really get going/kick in and for you to actually feel its effects on a continual basis. If you are worried about it not kicking in fast enough, there are always non XL (XL signifies extended release, which stays longer in your body, but is realized over an extension of time throughout your body to help promote a more consistent & longer lasting effect) versions which would basically be released immediately ...

I have been tapering off Zoloft 100mg and switching to generic Wellbutrin XL 300mg. I gradually went off the Zoloft over a two week period and then started the Wellbutrin XL and I am having bad mood changes and I cry almost everyday. I have picking fights with my husband and being completly unreasonable. I took 15mg of Zoloft and it made me fell a little bit more normal. Has anyone had this experience with genaric Wellbutrin XL? Any advice would help!! ## It seems like lots of people experience these types of effects when changing from one antidepressant to another. I had a simular experence when changing from cymbalta to viibryd . I quit the viibryd and started to taper off cymbalta . I am going 2 start the wellbutrin in a week or so. ## I have experienced it and my doctor had to presc...

Hi I am hoping to start wellbutrin xl next monday..I'm rather nervous & I hope you guys dont mind if I ask some questions.. 1- I have pretty much accepted that brand name is out of the question..I have the option of going to CVS that has watsons brand, Walgreens that has Mylan, or Wal Mart that has Activas (ps..I'm not looking at my notes & am trying my best to remember the names so please ignore my bad spelling :] ) Which off brand has worked best for you..so far I'm leaning towards the Watson..but would love some more feed back 2- I do not think I will be able to function at all if this makes me gain weight, especially since most of my depression & issue is my weight...has anyone had any weight gain from the generic? 3- I live in TX & have blue cross..I cal...

Hi All, I was taking 300 mg of the generic made by Watson. I didn't feel anything different for the first 2 week of being on it, but the third week I started to notice the effect of the medication and I felt great! It is the first antidepressant that has made a dramatic difference in my mood and energy levels. I was very excited until I started itching like crazy during my forth week on the medication. After calling my doctor, she said I should stop taking the medication. We've discussed trying the name brand, but I've called around and without insurance (my insurance does not cover name brands), the cheapest would be close to $400 a month, which is way out of my budget. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Has anyone else had this issue? Would it be worth trying out a di...

wondering about pill appearance and markings /color on the canadian version ## Just as it is in the U.S. this medication is available as both a generic and name brand in Canada. This means there are many on the market and they will all have different markings. Can you post back with the markings on the tablet you are asking about, so I can look it up for you?

I had a huge problem with a generic before (TEVA) and have been paying a larger co-pay for brand.....I was wondering if anyone had any info on the Zydus version. Thank You ## I have been taking Zydus bupropion xl for about two weeks. I don't think it is as effective, and I feel 'zaps'--not sure how to explain that, sortof like twitches. I have felt horrible. ## According to the US National Library of Medicine, Zydus's generic Bupropion is actually manufactured by Cadila Healthcare Ltd., based out of Ahmedabad, India. Zydus simply acts as their distributor with a local headquarters in Pennington, NJ. Each tablet reportedly contains the following set of inactive ingredients: hypromelloses, magnesium stearate, methacrylic acid, polyethylene glycols , triethyl citrate, povid...

I am curious what experiences patients have had when switching from brand name Wellbutrin to generic by PAR Pharmcueticals. ## Hi, Vincent! Have you recently switched? Much of it really depends on the person. There can be fluctuations when switching from the name brand to a generic, but most people don't notice any difference, since they aren't significant. However, for some people, problems can arise, if they are sensitive to medication changes. Learn more Wellbutrin details here. ## When I first switched from brand Wellbutrin XL 300 to Par, I thought it was working. I had intestinal issues at first, and then I started waking up in the middle of the night for about 3 hours. I also developed a constant eye twitch. So now my experience with generics is: Actavis - no real side eff...

Anyone take generic Wellbutrin made by Par pharmaceuticals? How is it working for you? ## I haven't taken this particular manufacturer's generic form of Wellbutrin (Bupropion), but thought I'd provide some additional information on it for those readers who may be trying to compare it with other brands/generics they may or may not have already tried. Bupropion XL made by Anchen Pharmaceuticals (of whom Par Pharmaceuticals purchased in 2011) are the small white round tablets imprinted in black ink with "A 101" or "A 102" for the 150mg/300mg doses, respectively. Each 150mg (A 101) pill reportedly contains the following set of inactive ingredients: alcohol + ethylcelluloses + hydrochloric acid + hydroxypropyl cellulose + povidone + silicon dioxide Each 300mg (A 1...

My pharmacists gave me teva buproprion Xl 150 which stayed on the market after the 300mg dose was withdrawn. It has a different absorption profile than the brand name and I'm wary of it. Any insights? ## The only thing you can really do is try it and see how it works for you. Learn more Bupropion details here. If you experience any unusual side effects, or it doesn't seem to work, then make sure to inform your doctor and pharmacist. Have you taken any yet? ## No not yet. Starting Sunday. The brand is $118 even with insurance, so I plan to try the generic to see if it works. Thanks for the comment. ## Been on it 4 days now. A little dry mouth, a little headachy, a little more energy, possibly loose stool but that's a rare side effect. Could just be something I ate. It's e...

I have a few questions regarding a medication I recently started. I was prescribed Wellbutrin, and the medication I received has the title "Bupropion HCL 75 mg" (I'm assuming this is the generic version). 1) On several online forums and medical dictionaries etc, there is a lot of mention of SR, XL, etc... How do I know whether the medicine I have is Suspended Release, or Extended release? 2) Under the guidance of my doctor, we are slowly beginning to up my daily dose. I have been taking one 75 mg pill in the morning for the past 7 days. Now I am supposed to double this, taking two pills per day. What is the best/safest/most effective way for me to take this medication? Should I be taking them both together in the morning, i.e two 75 mg pills? Or should I be spacing them out,...

My doctor will not prescribe generic Wellbutrin XL but my insurance will no longer pay for brand name drugs. I will have to pay about $7000 per yer for what I am taking now (3 of the 150mg Wellbutrin XL brand name per day). I am reading that the problem with the generics is the time release mechanism and not the drug itself and that some are better than others. Anybody have experience with the generics made by Watson and /or Anchen? ## I have no experience using it, but I do understand the problems that can occur with generic medications. I also did some searching and from what I've found online, most that have tried the one manufactured by Anchen have had good results with it. However, you may not get the same results, the only way to find out is to actually try it and see how it w...

Can I just stop taking 150 mg xl wellbutrin, it is my second day off and I do t feel too bad. Are the withdrawal effects yet to come. My pharmacist told me to take one and then skip one and so on till I was finished, but I have read that is not a good idea. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ## My pdoc wanted to wean me off of 150 mg Wellbutrin XL completely. But she told me that taking it every other day would be too much of a jump. Instead, I should take 150 mg one day and 75 mg the next. However, brand Wellbutrin XL is not available in 75 mg dosage and you can't cut a 150 mg XL pill in half. She suggested that I try one of the generics which was available in 75 mg dosage. The only generic I was tolerant of was TEVA Budeprion XL. But the FDA pulled it from the market an...

already on effexor xr wondering if anyone has combined this with wellbutrin xl, if so, any side effects? ## I take 300 mg effexor xr and 150 SR bupron....generic and less bowel movements than before, more crampy but in general it works for me....want off effexor becuz I think I have built a tolerance. maybe I've lost a few pounds....feel more even, less tired all the time! honestly I never totally know with psych meds cuz they build up slow and I'm moody anyway ...hope this helped some. ## There can be some risks to combining them, such as developing serotonin syndrome, which can be dangerous, or fatal, so you should not combine them, unless your doctor instructs you to do so, and is monitoring you regularly. That said, they are sometimes combined, when someone isn't respond...

I have read all the problems people are having with the generic versions of the Wellbutrin XL but I have had similar problems with the change in generics for Wellbutrin SR. I originally took 300 to 400 mgs of Wellbutrin SR manufactured by Watson. I have had several changes but did okay on the Wellbutrin by Watson and Sandoz. I went into a deep depression when I was switched to the Mylan but my insurance at first denied a different brand. Now they will switch to another generic with a special process. Has anyone experienced any side effects or improvement with the generic by Activis? ## Hello, Sorry to hear about your problems switching between all those manufacturers. It is however important to know that everyone reacts differently to these types of medications. So while one generic may...

I have been on Wellbutrin for a month and a half. My doctor started me with the regular release bupropion 75mg twice a day and then three weeks ago changed it to Wellbutrin XL (generic) and it has been great for those three weeks. Little anxiety and very productive and motivated again. However the past two days I have started to feel in a slump again. I find it hard to keep myself doing these things I've started doing while on my motivational spree. Is the wellbutrin calming down in my system or something and showing how it is actually going to be working from now on or could it be something else? I also take 150 to 300mg of gabapentin daily, depending on my anxiety level, if that info is something to take into consideration. Can anyone give me some insight on this? ## I forgot to m...

I'm wondering if anyone has switched from the brand wellbutrin to the generic buprop 24 and has noticed a difference. It seems to me that my depression is returning on the generic - or is it just my imagination? ## No, it is not likely just your imagination. There can be fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredient between the name brand and the generic. The FDA does allow them to differ by as much as plus, or minus 20%. For most people, these differences aren't significant and don't cause any problems. However, if you have been taking the brand name for a long time, or a sensitive to medications, then any slight variation may cause you some problems. Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? You might want to have them write your prescription as 'brand medic...

I took Wellbutrin and Wellbutrin XL for several years. It worked well for depression. I was then switched to the generic, Bupropion Hcl XL. This also worked well. I was then switched to "Buprop 24 XL". After a month or so, I had serious side effects. (Muscle spasms, increased depression, and my hands shook such that it affected my writing and the use of a keyboard.) About 2 months ago I switched back to the brand drug, Wellbutrin, and am almost back to normal. If Buprop 24 XL is identical to Wellbutrin (and to Bupropion), why the side effects? What companies make each of the three different drugs? ## Well to be honest, the generics and name brands aren't necessarily identical. I know they tell you that and they do so because for most people, it doesn't make a difference....

My Dr. took me off the Wellbutrin because it was making me sick. I have been taking the Generic kind. I just got a new refill, Generic Bupropion but they look just like the Wellbutrin & my stomach pain has come back. I need help. What do the Generic Bupropion look like? ## I started taking the generic Wellbutrin 2xday, I had stomach aches, nausa, dizzy, mouth sores and funky taste in my mouth and profuse sweating. I had the non-generic before. After 3 wks, call pharm, he suggested LX once a day, which I was on last, but didn't relize it was now generic. Dr. send new perscription and within 1wk,all those horrible symptons were gone!! This is the generic XL and I am doing fine! ## The way they look can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so there is no way I could describe the...

I have tried at least 15 meds over many years for major depression & wellbutrin is the only one that ever worked. The immediate release and the SR versions increased my problems w/anxiety, so the Dr. put me on 2pills in am of the XL 150 mg. version, and it has helped me have a life, not commit suicide, etc. Since insurers no longer want to pay for brand-name, I also tried wellbutrin XL150 mg, 2 pills in am from all 4 of the remaining generic mfgs , over the course of at least 6 mos. Felt pretty bad but hung on as I thot there was a lite at the end of the tunnel. 3 generics hd no effect, 1 had at most a quarter of the efficacy of the brand name. I don't have the name of the better one at hand, but when I find it I could post it here...Now I have a new HMO and they won't give ...
