How Long Does Xanax Effect Last

I have been taking Xanax for about a year now. I currently take 0.5mg four times a day with more if I know I'm going to be anxious or am having a panic attack. For a while, the Xanax seemed to keep my GAD at bay since I was taking it regularly. I also rarely had panic attacks. Now, I'm usually anxious and can't function. I have usually around 3 panic attacks a day. They don't seem to be full-blown panic attacks that make me feel like I have to go to the hospital, but they last a while and I spend much of my day lying in bed trying to calm down and I can't hold down a job or go back to school because of it. I have tried taking upwards of 1.5mg of Xanax during a panic attack and it doesn't really seem to do anything anymore. What should I do? I think I'm meetin...

I've been taking Xanax brand name for panic attacks and anxiety as needed, not regularly, for the past five years. I've never increased my dose of frequency of taking this med at any point, and am not physically dependent at all. Up until last month ago, the label had always said it was manufactured by "Pharmacia" or "Pharmacia/Upjohn". For years they worked fantastically with no sleepiness or other side effects. I was totally functional. I was shocked when--at some point last month--I took my Xanax to ease panic and did not notice any relief at all in terms of my mental state. Instead, I felt physically hot, dizzy, sweaty, and as if all motivation had been sucked out of my body. It was a terrible feeling in addition to the panic. I thought it was just a bad coin...

I will be giving a 45 minute presentation in a couple of days, and I am an EXTREMELY nervous public speaker. My doc gave me five 0.25 mg Xanax to use for this engagement, of course, not to take the 5 tablets in one shot ;) but first to test it out. I used two of the 0.25 pills in the last two months: one for a shorter 8 minute presentation in front of only 6 people ,where it seemed to calm my nerves. The second "test" was within a group giving a short presentation, yet here I noticed all my shortcomings coming forth: shortness of breath, voice gitters, and my body also shook. NOw,what to do about this solo 45 minute engagement I have in the next couple of days: shall I try two of the 0.25mg pills=0.5 dose? Also, I had quiet smoking for about 7 months, yet started again these las...

If you require such a medication on a long-term ongoing basis, you'll need to see a specialist, a general practice physician won't be able to prescribe it for you, due to the new regulations set forth by the DEA last year. It carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability. Thus, you'll need to see a psychiatrist. Do you currently have a PCP that might be able to refer you to someone? If so, that might be the quickest and easiest way to find the help you need. Can anyone recomm...

I have been taking .5 mg xanax every night for the last 8 months to fall asleep. It actually works, but I think I'm having side effects. I used to wake up 3 times per night before Xanax, and now I sleep through the night, but I wake up exhausted and sluggish. I'm having memory problems and I don't feel alert. Am I addicted? Can I just stop, since it's such a low dose? Do I have to reduce slowly? It's only .5 mg per night. Any ideas?? HELP! ## Those are normal side effects for Xanax. When you use something regularly and your body is used to having it, it isn't considered addiction, it is actually called dependence. An addict has to keep using more and more of something, because they like the effects they get from it and must keep increasing the amount the use, bec...

Is the oxycontin effecting the xanax..I'm really scared as I am very scared my xanax won't ever work the way its supposed to..any advice ## Hello, Based on my research, using Alprazolam together with Oxycontin (Oxycodone) may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience some impairment in thinking and judgment. I haven't found any information stating that taking Oxycontin will make Xanax less effective, so maybe that's just how your body is reacting to the combination. The real problems with mixing these two arise from the...

I want to know which is stronger. The Ativan or Xanax? Which one lasts the longest? I have really bad anxiety so I wanted to know which one is better to take? ## Xanax is stronger than Ativan, it is actually twice as strong. You only need a half a milligram of it to equal each 1mg of the Ativan. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and irritability. However, the only way to know which one will work best for you is by trying them. Is there anything else I can help with?

Went to pharm. today to complain that green oval 1mg Xanax did not have the effect that the round blue ones had. They changed mine last week. I called them about the problem and asked them if anyone else had a problem. They said yes and would get their reg. blue brand in by today. I got a weeks supply last week and a 30 day supply from Dr. today. Went to get it filled and they weren't getting in new ones until Thurs noon. They gave me a few of greens to get me thru. I asked another pharmacist if any one else had the same complaint. She said "Several, and that's why we are getting the other original brand." I asked when they realized there was a problem and it was a couple of months ago. Asked why they didn't correct the problem then? "we had 4500 of the other one...

I was given Xanax as an alternative for Ativan. I have been on Ativan for some time now and am leary about using Xanax as a replacement. Is there reason to be worried? ## Why are you taking it as an alternative? Xanax is actually more addictive and has more long lasting side effects than Ativan does. Most doctors prefer to use Ativan when they can get away with it because people dont tend to abuse it like they do Xanax. ## Ativan and Xanax are both in the Benzodiazepine class, both as equally addictive as the other. ## the only real negative difference that i have found bt ativan and xanax is that xanax causes a huge hangover, You may get better results from xanax. who knows ## Seriously try to stay away from the xanax it is extremely addictive. are the ingedence in xanax and kolinpin the exect same or there diffrent indgedances whats xanax have that kolonpin dont ## One has Alprazolam and one has Clonazepam in it. Two different drugs in the same family that have similar properties ## Xanax is slightly structurally different than klonopin. The main factor being that xanax has a shorter half life than klonopin. The drug gets into your system effecting you quicker and more intensely but also leaves your system more quickily than klonopin which comes on slower lasts longer and leaves the body quicker therefore making it easier to taper off of if that time does come.
