Why Pioz Mf G2 Is Banned In India (Top voted first)

Updated

I am using Pioz MF G2 to control my Blood sugar since two years. Blood sugar level is well controlled. Recently when I tried to find this medicine from market, I am told this is banned due to some chances of stomach cancer. Can any Doctor advise me why it is banned and should I continue the same medicine or not.

Regards,
Sanjib M.

Hi Sanjib,

Based on my research, the ban on Pioglitazone (Pioz MF G2) in India was actually revoked back in August of 2013.

Apparently the reason why it was banned in the first place had to do with the central government's opinion concerning the safety of Pioglitazone, thinking it may have had life-threatening side effects (I believe cancer was one of them). However, after several protests from doctors across the country, I guess they let up on their decision with an understanding that Pioglitazone had more benefits than risks associated with its use.

How long has it been since you last inquired about its availability?

My Mother is suffering from diabetics for the last 4 years.. after lots of expirement with drugs one Doctor suggested her Semi Tribet 1mg twice a day, in which pioglitazone hydrochloride 7.5mg with the combination of Metformin hydrochloride 500mg and Glimipride 1mg...... with semi tribet 1mg just within 15 days her blood sugar was reduced to 100 from 288.. so my mother was very much satisfied with the drug and she took it for 2 long years.. when pioglitazone was banned she took Glycomet Gp2 by which again the sugar was uncontrolled.. and again when pioglitazone was allowed in market with the advice of doctor she switched over Semitribet 1mg.. again after 6months she was suffering from obescity, calf pain, joints pain and also hypoglycima... Can any doctor suggest me weather to take the same drug with reduce dose like taking Semitribet 1mg half in the morning and half after dinner.. piror it was 1 morng and 1 night.. plz suggest me Sir....
