Are there any prolonged side effects after 10 yrs of treatment?

Hello, Shellbee! How are you?

Long-term side effects usually entail the possibility of liver damage, but that would be detected via blood work, if your doctor is monitoring you and checking occasionally.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is there anything else I can help with?

I was just taken off of 50mcg fentanyl patches/72hrs, and put on oxycodone 20mg extended release with hydro/APAP 5mg/325 acetaminophen for breakthrough pain and I'm going thru withdrawl as well as being in pain. Everything I read here gives me the impression that this shouldn't be happening, being on the patches for a month and a half. Can anyone help me with what I should expect? Thank you...

Hi. This is my first post and hoping that someone can help with this. At my last visit to my pain doctor I asked to switch to a different extended release as I felt the patches were not working as well anymore. I was wearing a 25mcg and 12mcg patch together every 48 hours. I was given oxycodone ER 10 mg twice a day. This is not working at all and I'm not getting any relief so I know the dose has to be lower than the fentanyl I was on. Can anyone that has switched successfully or a doc or anyone that knows what they're talking about let me know what worked for you? I also get three 15mg oxycodone instant-release a day for breakthrough and those are not helping either because my pain is so high from the 10 mg ER not touching it.
