Methadone And Klonopin Problems
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have been on 125mg of methadone for the past ten years, also on klonopin even longer, but for the past two years the program wants me off the klonopin, because of the risk, but never had any problems with the meds. I'm getting so mad with the program, I told them to take me off the methadone, but they don't think that would be smart, I don't care what they want. My body I know what makes me feel normal, it's just a dumb move for me to walk off the methadone, but they won't give me any help other than what they want. I'm scared of what I might do. I've been on both meds so long, I don't feel any different, I feel I need something different because I don't think I'm benefiting from either of them any more, I want to use, have bad panic attacks. Life is just getting harder, I am 53 now. I just want some help.....

I feel for you. I had a similar problem when I started taking suboxone. They took me off of Valium because of a “deadly” interaction. I begged my doc to put me back on Valium. I was just starting to consider quitting suboxone when I found a new doc who put me on klonopin along with suboxone. So don’t give up hope. If you have to find a new doctor, drug, etc, just do it. I know it’s scary when you’re potentially going off a powerful drug like methadone though.

Can you take benzodiazepines like Klonopin while on Methadone maintenance? Or is it forbidden?

Thank you, neecy. I can really appreciate that even one person relates and took the time to tell me so! It gives me hope. Much love to you as well and yes i sure hope it gets easier for the both of us.... but really it was the few bad apples that have ****ed it up for those of us whom are sincere about our sobriety :(

Same situation.. I am so sick of this program here in TN. When I lived in Baltimore MD, there were no problems at all with me and klonapin. And my insurance covered all of the expense. Here, it's 118.00 a week. I really feel your pain. Hope we both find our solution. Much love

Steven Ls, wow, I wish I saw your post earlier, as I see this is from 3/23/16, damned near 8 mos ago now...i do not take methadone or klonopin, however, it doesn't even matter, because I am on suboxone over 6 years now and have taken very low doses of generic xanax off & on for about the same or longer...I read your post & it truly mirrors how I am feeling with my meds, anxiety. S*** just isn't working the same anymore, and since being on medicaid the past 14 mos out of a necessary evil, i, too, am being give the screw around, being told what i can & can't take, failing drug panels because i HAD to take xanax when I was forced into cold turkey withdrawal off of suboxone when i was made to go w/o it after taking it successfully for over 5 years. I think i have decided the state of Delaware does NOT care about people SUCCESSFULLY in recovery - they treat us all the same, like the scum bag LOSERS who use state-funded opiate/drug addiction recovery as a TEMPORARY desperation tactic, for when they are unable to get dope or pills or their old man or old lady dumped them, or they otherwise somehow lost their hookup, or got kicked out of home, in between jobs, need to lay low for a while and PRETEND to be getting sober. Well thanks a lot you sub-human sociopathic dirt ball psychotic dishonest selfish narcissistic a-holes. Thanks to YOU the rest of us get treated like CONSISTENTLY relapsing LOSER junkies fresh out of rehab, having to piss in cups every month. I am sick to death of it & find it degrading. I was given U/A's 3x in 5 years with private AETNA insurance and my suboxone doctor of 5 years....never a problem ever. It was WORTH the thousands I gave that doctor over the span of 5 years....if I had started on suboxone through Delaware (my GOOD DOCTOR was in Pennsylvania) and Medicaid, I would NEVER have stayed sober and almost certainly would have graduated to illicit drugs. I am fed the F*** up with ALL OF IT!!!! sick of being punished and treated like child and/or lying active addict and criminal/felon...they are MAKING ME WANT TO GET F***ED UP!!! They put no importance in continuous sobriety....they probably want me to relapse so they can stop giving me the suboxone THEY GET FOR FREE from the drug manufacturer, that I PAY 2 & 3 copays a month for, since rarely am i allowed to get a 30 day supply AT ONE TIME. And the film SUCKS. They are a-holes for not caring enough to let the patient have a choice. Shouldn't it be about what is best for the patient and what is likely to ensure his or her CONTINUED, UNINTERRUPTED SOBRIETY?

Thank you so much April, you struck a point that I'm pretty sure everyone on methadone has gone through, been in the ER head split open and the doctor tells the nurse that I'm seeking narcotics, that's happened more than once, I have hade the same pcp for 12yrs and have never asked for anything, as long as I've been on methadone pain meds do nothing I have a blocker in my system , I know this but to a doctor I'm a junkie and it needs to change we do need proper care, and the sad thing is these same doctors are turning people into addicts daily......

Thanks Steven... I have had it with the problems at this program. I begged them not to take my take homes away, so, I was able to make them give me a week at a time back. I am now on 90 mg of methadone and my Doctor is having communication with the Dr. At clinic. So, I have to decrease my kpins or they are taking me completely off of the methadone.

Do not let the program make u come off ur anxiety meds. It's none there business. U need it its been working an u been on it very long time with no problems.. It wouldn't b smart to come off the methadone either so see if u guys can reach some agreement. If ur dr prescribes it there's a good reason u need it. I get it could not be a safe mix but as long as ur not abusing it an taking too much u should be ok... I have that problem now. i use to be on benzos from real bad panic attacks but years later now i have drug problem an went on methadone they dont want to give me any benzos, but yet i know people who never had history of panic disorder an their prescribed kpins, its messed up!!!! The dr i see judges me cus im on the clinic, too bad b****, now im not goin to see her no more and need to find a new dr cus from day 1 they took me off my clonodine then now seroquel. She thinks I don't need meds and that I'm fine. She saw me 5 times. She doesn't know how I can get unstable off my meds. It aint pretty. wtf kinda dr is she. Who let her be a dr.? She's krazy!!!

Dear Steven,

In regards to your original post, have you ever considered trying Kratom and/or medical marijuana for pain management and anxiety after coming off the combination of methadone and klonopin?

Kratom is touted for its ability to alleviate opioid withdrawals as well as having potent analgesic effects that have been compared to codeine. In my opinion it also has a powerful effect on generalized anxiety disorders... though medical marijuana may also be beneficial for anxiety and pain as well...

I realize you don't really want to come off your meds, but if they are leaving you with no other choice then I think it would be wise to not remain dependent on a clinic that doesn't support your best interest and take matters into your own hands.

Hey Neecy, wow they sound like there really messing with you. My program changed director's so the new Dr took everyone who was on a narcotic they had to get off, out of everyone I said no and found out that they can't make you get off the meds, but I guess like in your case they can make life hard, you can't change clinics ? Really hard to read your post I just know the pain your going through. I wish you all the best. Steven

I was on 160mg of methadone for 10 yrs. I moved back to TN and the clinic here automatically took me down to 120mg. Finally since I had so much time in treatment, I earned 2 weeks worth of take homes. I am also on klonopin 1mg 3 times a day. Today, I turned my klonopin in to be logged in at the clinic. They took my take homes away due to my counselor not doing her job by submitting a line of communication between the Doctors. I am now down to 95mg of methadone now, they want me to get off of benzos. But my primary Physician doesn't believe that the risks out way the benefit of me remaining on them. I honestly don't know what to do now. I don't have the luxury of getting to the clinic 7 days a week. My dad is 84 and I have no license so he will not allow me to drive. I will be seeing the Methadone Doctor tomorrow so I can allow him to call my Physician. And now they're saying klonopin isn't in my system... What? I've been told that it doesn't always come up. But my? To the clinic is.... Would I bother going through all of their tapers, and taking my privileges away if I weren't taking the klonopin? I mean, really I am ready to just go to a pain clinic due to past back surgery and a much needed one now. It would certainly be cheaper. Well, thanks for letting me vent... If anyone knows why it doesn't always come up please let me know.
