Liquid Narcotic Pain Medication

Updated

I see a pain management Dr for chronic pain. I've had a very difficult time in finding the RIGHT medication for this. I recently had my 2nd disc repair surgery on my neck and I've made sure to follow all protocols with prescriptions between my pain management Dr and my surgeon. My biggest issue right now is that I've been taking Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen 7.5/325 in liquid form. Today my husband took me in for a follow up appointment and we found out that this medication is no longer available in the liquid form. I take the liquid form because of a poor absorption issue with my stomach after having a bad gastric bypass surgery (while I lost a great amount of weight my stomach is totally screwed up now). I'm allergic to morphine & dilaudid. We've tried patches too but because I work out at the gym (when I am able to stand upright, walk and/or drive without pain) the patches (also very expensive even with Rx insurance) would come off and lose adhesiveness. So now my pain management Dr has changed my Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen from liquid to tablet form. Are there other medications that come in liquid form that might help? I'm not totally desperate here. I'll take what has been prescribed but the effectiveness will be different for me than what it is for others. Plus the liquid form was already losing its effectiveness. I wasn't able to see the Dr in person today because of other medical issues that prevent it but I go back in 2 weeks. Suggestions?

This liquid medication is still available, I am not sure why they said it wasn't. Were you running out early? Were there any other issues?

Please note that this is going by the current information available to me, which may not be as current as that your doctor or pharmacy has received.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, drowsiness, headache, and constipation.

Has anyone else been told this information by their doctor, or pharmacy?

Thank you. No, I don’t run out early. I’ve always taken at least half a bottle back. My husband is going to call my doctor on Monday. It occurred to us that SHE wasn’t the one to sign & write this lady Rx but another (who I truly don’t like). I think there’s been s communication lapse because the doctor I see knows my situation with absorption issues whereas and the one who signed this lady Rx does not
