Generic Z-pack Availability In Us? (Top voted first)

Updated

My daughter had allergic reaction to generic Z-pack manufactured in Israel for a PA pharmaceutical company. Is this legal for my insurance to provide this? My daughter has taken the brand name Z-pack at least 6 times without a problem. Are others having these problems. She is to the point of steroids to control her swelling and rash. Any reply appreciated. I am an RN.

I also have take Z-pak for at least 12 years - average once a year or less due to secondary bacterial infections when I got a cold. Then in August 2010 took what I am sure is the generic - no rash but about 2 weeks later I came down with a whole host of problems - always been extremely healthly - but this was Hell - didn't even think about the z-pak since I had taken it with no problem for years - so I spent August through Dec going to at least 30 doctors and many procedures trying find out what was wrong. Had palpatations, gastritris, shortness of breath, distonia type contractions on and in my head, ear problems, vision problems, joint problems, food sensitivities, anxiety which I have never had before, literally did not sleep for 3 weeks straight - and other smyptoms. After MRI's , MRA, colonscopy, endoscopy, a whole host of blood tests, ultrasounds, heart tests, lung tests a couple of trips to emergency and having a terrible feeling something was wrong and no one could figure it out. Drs could only fine some gastritis, a benign thryoid nodule and some degenertive discs in my neck. Seem to be getting better Feb. through March but still wasn't back to old self. Then got a cold with possible pneumonia (never had before) and went to family Dr. and got a Z-pak from Israel and unbelievable my symptoms started again after first dose and still took second dose just to make sure!! - head and neck problems, great anxiety, heart palps, insomia, phlem in back of throat, swallowing difficultes, hearing problem, vision problems when I close my eyes, stomach upset and others that I had before - just feel something is wrong. I never thought it could be the Z-pak - I hope there is something in it as a filler that is doing this because I would like to be able to take antibodics in future? I am allergeric to penicillian but was always able to take other antibodics. Does anyone know if you can still get the old brand name z-pak? Who can someone talk to about this that gets it and doesn't think it is in your head?

Glad I found this. I took the " regular " Z pack this week and on day 3 I broke out in hives. Too annoying to describe. So of course I didnt link the two since I have taken it before. Once in Jan and once in Nov. So I thought i ate something that I just grew an allergy to. When it got real bad... I called the Dr. to make sure it wasnt the Z PaK. It ended up my body grew an allergy to it in a short amount of time and it is VERY common ( accordng to my Dr. ) I am now on Cortizone pills along with Claritin and Benedryl at night. Just wanted to post just in case. Seemed somewhat relevant. Good Luck.

Doubtful, it sounds like an allergic reaction to something in the ingredients, possibly a filler and that is something you are warned about in the medication information. It is considered an acknowldeged hazard of taking the medication.

I had the exact same thing happen on my 4th day of the z pack from Israel. My hives/allergic reaction has continued for almost a week. I am now taking 2 plus antihistamines per day to control the symptoms.

Where can I get a z pac produced in USA? Mine was purchased in a NYS Rite Aid Pharmacy but made in India.

I was given a prescription for a Z-Pac (250 mg) for a wisdom tooth extraction. I found it curious that the pills were red and from India... Previous prescriptions were white pills. I followed the directions and took 2 the first day and one for the next 4 day. I did not take the 4th pill as the night before I had severe intestinal cramping! I spent the entire evening in the bathroom with diarrhea, gas, chills, and pain. The manufacturer was GREENSTONE! I plan to call SAM'S Club pharmacy to advise them of this issue. Why is this medicine allowed to be sold (in the USA) without advising the patient of the known issues from this manufacturer? It's defective medicine.

I did some research regarding the Z- Pak from India. The company in India is owned by Phizer. The "red"!Z-Pak medicine has not been FDA approved because the original medication developed byvPhizer is suppose to be identical. It isn't because the Z-Paj I gave taken in the past did not have the sudexaffectscibam experiencing ... And the reason I didn't take the last pill. I also learned that SAM'S Club gets their Z-Paks from Walmart who negotiates for the entire United States. The pharamacist hads no control and only has the "India" pills to fill prescriptions. I have since had muscle weakness, issues with my throat and swallowing, fatigue, shaking hands and feelings of little energy. This is not a result of having a Wisdom tooth pulled. I plan to contact Phizer tomorrow. Stay tuned!!

An example of authorized generics is Azithromycin Pak sold by the Greenstone company. The Z-pak drug is a brand-name drug created by Pfizer company and approved by the FDA. As the patent for Z-pak was about to expire, Pfizer company let the Greenstone company sell Z-pak using the generic name Azithromycin Pak. In other words, Azithromycin Pak from Greenstone is exactly the same drug as Z-pak from Pfizer. Also, Azithromycin Pak from Greenstone has never been approved by the FDA because it is exactly the same as Z-pak from Pfizer. As a matter of fact, the Greenstone company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pfizer company.

Hi, I too have taken the z pack numerous times for upper respitory even pneumonia. I have never had any issues ever. This June i took z pack for sinus infection, on 3rd day experienced horrible leg and back pain. My cramps continued for about a week after. I looked at where my z pak was made and it said India, manufactured in nj.
I'm pretty upset, they talk about equality in our country yet we outsource to China and India where the workers make pennies on the dollar and we as Americans suffer from their inconsistencies!
It's a shame because Medicane is supposed to help us when we need it! Not hurt us!! it's a choice companies make to put more money in their pockets by not making brand drugs and out sourcing to India and China were our Fda obviously does not investigate their facilities where these drugs are being made.
How do we combat the multi million dollar drug companies and lobbyists to have safer drugs and for that matter ban Gmos that so many household names ie pepperidge farm, nestle, Kraft, Dannon , Quaker now use on a regular basis??
