I recently took a hair follicle test and it came back positive for meth. I've been clean since April 24, 2013. I was on trazadone and Prozac until roughly July. My hair said I was positive with only 2100 points on the chart. Could it be from my meds?

One of the great features of hair drug testing is that it is good at isolating the metabolite that for a particular drug which reduces the incidence of false positives. The number 2100 most likely means 2100 pico grams per milligrams or 2100 pg/mg. That appears to be low or recreational use. As far as the meds causing a false positive I doubt it. I don't know how many inches were tested and the complete time frame (when the hair was collected) so this is the best answer I can give.

What OTC medications & prescription medications will result in a positive outcome for amphetamine & methamphetamine when this is false positive? I do not abuse the illegal substances the lab provided to me. I have asthma & stomache issues like reflux, heartburn & possible ulcers. Please call me at {edited for privacy} for a run down of all the OTC & prescriptions that I take.

I am assuming you mean false positive for a urine drug test. Did the lab do a confirmation test using GC/MS to make sure it was a false positive? Anyway there are most likely many substances that might cause a false positive that is why I recommend going to a MRO. A Medical Review Officer is a doctor trained to interpret drug test results and say why you are getting a false positive. Some of the asthma meds might have amphetamine like compounds to open up the bronchial passages so if you use an inhaler that might be the culprit especially if it was a low level of positive. Hope this helps.

Any medication that lists pseudoephadrine, cold meds and allergy meds have them added. I am asthmatic and was prescribed allegra D and the same thing happened to me. When this happens just have the lab person send into lab for verification and they will "spin" it which means that they break it down to the chemicals, and they can tell if it is meth or medicine.

I'm also on Prozac and have tested positive twice now! Thing is I haven't touched any amphetamine in about 3-4 years! So frustrating..

I just tested positive for Methamphetamine on a hair test, my urine test came back clean. I have never used illegal drugs in my life. I am 56 years old and had worked as a paramedic for 18 years. I now drive trucks to help with my income and two months ago had a very severe cold that i was taking all kinds of over the counter medication to feel better. But this was two months ago. Needless to say I did not get the job I applied for but worse the company made me feel like a criminal, and these were people I've work for before for 7 years. When i talked to the lab tech they told me that someone might have slipped something to me in a drink or food, but i just cant see that happening. I am so upset about this, I know that I would never do any drugs as I have seen what they do to people.
Could these cold medications have cause the positive test in my hair, that has stayed there for 2 months? Or is more likely that I ingested it without my knowledge?
Please someone help me here so I can prove to this company that I dont use Meth

I haven't had methamphetamine since April 3rd 2015. Put a drug patch on three weeks ago and all three came back positive for methamphetamine. Haven't had any in 3months. Will a hair test show any different? I took a home urine test today and it was negative.

You can get a false positive for Methamphetamine if you have taken OTC medications such as Sudafed. The "methamphetamine" in sudafed is the ingredient that makes the crystal Amphetamine absorb FASTER into the bloodstream. The key would be IF you tested POSITIVE for Amphetamine as well. My test came back ABNORMAL POSITIVE because I tested Positive for Methamphetamine and NEGATIVE for Amphetamine! They still TREATED IT AS POSITIVE!

I tested positive for amphetamines and methamphetamine on a hair strand test. It was done for cps and she said it showed 14000. Not sure what that means but I've been clean for almost 6 months. I do take allergy meds daily, have taken otc cold meds and weight loss pills. Will that test positive for both?

If you're experiencing heartburn after taking methamphetamine, can you take rantidine? Or is it a bad idea?

How can I pass a hair follicle test for methamphetamines tomorrow if my last dose was today? Please help me. My kids are on the line and I was forced to take it by my abusive boyfriend because he is jealous of my time spent with my kids.

I took 2 hair follicle tests a week apart. The first positive for methamphetamine. The second tested negative. Cps said that the first test was not a false positive and have my son...all my urine and blood tests are negative. How can hair be taken from the same place on my chest and have different results? I don't do methamphetamine. I tested 2 times a week for parole and never had a dirty test. Cps said that there is nothing I can do.

See if you are being exposed to second hand methamphetamine in your environment. That was what was happening to me. Good Luck.

I filled for custody of my daughter in October and it has been nothing but hell. 2 court dates ago her father and I were ordered to take a urine screen and we both passed. Now my oldest daughters father has also filed for custody. His lawyer said that he was willing to pay for a hair follicle test. With no objection I agreed to take it. I got the test results back today and they were positive for methamphetamines! I do not use drugs! So why did the result come back as a positive. What could have made this happen. Now I am at all risk of losing my daughter again!

My son was on Methamphetamine but has been sober for 21 months on probation & he's passed all his UA tests done weekly and still has flunked 2 hair follicle tests. I know for a fact he has been sober and has cleaned his house sheets, furniture, mattress, etc. No dope fiends are coming over. He even shaved his head and broke up with his crackhead girlfriend. He's living like a monk. Yet still the hair follicle test shows Methamphetamine. Could he be getting contamination from touching door knobs in stores or just handling money given to him at walmart? Are we all contaminated? He's going to prison if he flunks another. Help!!

I called EXPERTOX to find this out. Please go to an independent lab for a hair follicle test and if it still reads positive ask their medical review officer to do an D & L isomer test. As a lot of cold medicine, inhalers, supplements, even those energy drinks may have chemicals that mirror methamphetamine. This can differentiate what's causing the false positives. Also the levels may indicate cross contamination from things in your house, door knobs, furniture, upholstery or money even that has traces of methamphetamine on it. My son just failed his 3rd hair follicle test and he's been sober for 21 months. Even shaved his head after the last time - He passes U/A's every week.
