Coming Off Mirtazapine 15mg
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I started on 15mg mirtazapine 7 weeks ago and titrated up after 4 weeks to 30mg for 1 week; then back down to 15mg for the last week. I want off this awful medication. I feel completely spaced out all the time but am aware withdrawal is horrendous. I have been really agitated the past 48 hrs so I want to limit withdrawal symptoms as much as possible. I was going through a bad divorce, serious debts and being staked for 9 months by my ex husband of 26 years. I have had extensive counselling and am mentally in a much better place so I want to come off this poison ASAP safely. Thank you for your reply.

Re: Paul (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

I agree with Paul. Cut down from 15mg to halves then to quarter and then obe-eighth. Gradually n progressively you can do it.
For me I entrust to my Jesus and He helped me to come out of it fully.

My advice is do it slowly and gradually if you're finding it unpleasant. Basically the same way you start the drug by gradually increasing the drug, but in reverse. Reduce your dosage gradually week by week or whatever regime works for you to minimise withdrawal effects. Discuss with your doctor what is best and then it may be a case of trial and error, until you can come off it gradually over a period of time. Some people seem to be able to stop taking it quite easily and quickly without any problems. Others like yourself who have been taking it at a higher dose and over a longer period can experience problems such as anxiety, restlessness, problems sleeping and depressive thoughts. Just like when you start the drug it has side-effects that diminish after the first 3-6 weeks, these problems should go away as your brain chemistry adjusts to being without the drug.

Hello, Beth! How are you?

Overall, divorces always suck, even if we have to do them for own good, I dealt with one back in 2009 and my new husband had to deal with one back in 2015, so I know how rough it can be. Are you okay? Is everything done, now? I know some places make it much harder than others.

As to the medication, if you have only been taking it for that short of a time period, you most likely won't experience any dangerous issues stopping it, though consulting your doctor is always best. Some withdrawal effects may include nausea, dizziness, rebound depression, anxiety, fever, and chills, as listed by the NIH.
