Xanax Xr: A Benzodiazepine To Remember

Updated

A lot of people in the press seem to think benzodiazepines are just addictive drugs that serve no purpose. Some even have the audacity to claim they should be taken off the shelves and that they’re clearly the next “opioid crisis”. I’ve noticed patterns in these claims: no evidence to back them up. Benzos save lives. I don’t know about some of you, but if my benzo were to be taken away; it would ruin my life and quite possibly kill me. I’ve been taking these for over ten years, and I don’t regret it for a second. Xanax XR is definitely my favorite. I take a fairly low dose 1mg twice a day, and my negative thoughts go away.

The media can believe what they want, but the thing that kills me is when I meet a med student or young doctor who says they would NEVER prescribe benzos. Valium is listed as one of the top drugs by the World Health Organization, and these so called physicians will never prescribe it because of a stigma that benzodiazepines are so addictive that they can get you hooked quicker than heroin. Who comes up with these so called “facts”? These young doctors are going to replace our current doctors one day. Think about what will happen when they do, and if you take a benzodiazepine; help break the stigma. Share your success stories. Don’t let the media dictate anything you do. Being physically dependent on a substance is very different from being addicted. Never be afraid to speak out against benzo haters (they’re mostly jealous because they’ve never got to try them). Xanax XR is my benzo of choice because of its smooth release into the bloodstream giving me relief for hours. I take two a day because it says the half life is 11 hours. Anyway, sorry for rambling.

I agree totally with him and go further to say that I have been taking xanax for 14 years and the yellow bars have disappeared only white ones available and are not as effective.. I can not take valium or other pills, extremely sensitive and only xanax works. I take it only at bedtime, and as the years have rolled along, I'm finding I could use a bit more at night due to extreme stress from global issues, and my profession. It is critical that this is addressed, and I can not believe young Doctors will or would not prescribe this, as the weight of the world will dominate the future of us all..

I agree Benzodiazepines are a life saver if u need them. I got injured in the Marines and I am disabled and have had 5 surgeries on my right hand from fast roping out of a CH-46 on the USS NASSAU off the coast of Lebanon. The nerve pain from a Neuropathy was unbearable unfortunately I got addicted to pills and I finally got on the Methadone Maintenance clinic. At first yes, the doctor cut my dose way back of Klonopin then took me off. Then the dosing nurse seen me every morning without my Klonopin and after some time took it to staffing and told the treatment team that I was shaking uncontrollably and had trouble even taking my dose of methadone not to mention stuttering and having trouble communicating.

Anyway the head doctor was told and he said listen this man is different he is not just hooked on opioids he had a TBI and has to take this medication this isn't right and I will not let this man suffer like this day in and day out. I had been on the clinic at that time for a little over 20 years and have been on Benzodiazepines for over 25 years without it I can't function. So yes doctors will cut u off at a blink of an eye. Between my counselor, nurse and doctor they witnessed first hand how I am without my Klonopin so if u have problems anxiety panic attacks and a mind u cant control then I can relate. Unfortunately I'm housebound and agoraphobic but I work on those things with my counselor. May god bless everyone and I'm glad the medication helps everybody that takes it.

Re: Joel (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you for that. It’s good to know that there are other people like me and doctors that do actually care about the well-being of their patients. I also appreciate the sacrifices you made to serve our country. I remember when I started taking Suboxone and the doctor took my Valium away. It was a living hell. Shaking, deep depression, questioning my decision to get clean and go on Suboxone. I think I pretty much laid in bed for three months until I found a new doctor willing to prescribe benzos with Suboxone. Just like your doctor, he cared and he understood that when you’ve been on benzos ten years; you can’t really quit. They’re literally the one drug I need the most. I’m sorry to hear about your agoraphobia. I’ve been there. Just keep taking your meds and working on it. You’ll be fine.
