Talwin/fortral/sosegon Side Effects
UpdatedTo whom it may concern: I have read every thread on this forum concerning Talwin, the last comment is 5 months old. I have a history with the use of USA Talwin going back to 1977, 10 yrs after its introduction in the USA.
1. It is only available in the USA in "liquid Vial, (ampules) in the USA, in its "pure unadulturated form", since t983, when Winthrop, the original patent holder, added a narcotic antagonist, to the pill version form, to curb high street abuse, and to discourage the DEA in the USA, from making Talwin Tablets, a Schedule II. It was made in the reformulated Talwin NX form, by Winthrop, and later by Sanofi Aventis, for a long time, with relativey poor sales, after the formula switch. My belief is that it is still available, in 50 mg tablet form, only, if special ordered, by a generic firm, with the,
0.05 mg addition of Nalaxone HCI, added to the base 50 mg. tablet. The latest info I can verify, is that Sanofi Aventis were still producing the low selling tabs, as recently, as, 2009, NDC code 00024-1954-04 in a light yellow caplet for Average Wholesale Cost to Pharmacies, in the United States of America,
$187.03 for one bottle, of one hundred caplets, of this USA C-IV substance, in tablet form. Without the addition of Naloxone Hydrochloride, it was still available in the USA in 2009, as Talwin Lactate, for IM or IV use, mainly for USA hospital, or Oral Dental Surgeon, use, only in the ampules or liquid form, for IV or IM injection.

I personally have a severe allergic reaction to traditional opiate based popular USA pain pills, used on any long term basis, such, as Percocet, Percodan, OxyContin, Codeine, Dihydrocodeine, Dilaudid, Vicodin, Vicodin ES,Avenza (Morphine Sulfate caplets) in any pill form. Also for opiate tolerant people, USA TalwinNX, will cause most people go into withdrawals, if they begin TalwinNX use, without a particular washout period of time, to get the Opiate based, previous used mentioned medications, out of their system.
Talwin (Pentazocine HCL) in tablet form was available 12 years ago in as many as 21 other countries, by tablet use, in either a 25 or 50 mg dose, competely free, of the USA "Talwin NX" only version.
Unfortunately, due to recreational abuse, in many of these other countries, "Pentazocine Hydrocloride" has been either withdrawn by the manufacturers, in tablet, or caplet use, from 21 countries, in 1999, to by 2009, only 12 countries, in tablet form. Sanofi Aventis, or Sanofi Syntholab, as well as KrKa Pharmaceuticals, were the main non USA manufacturers of the tablet form of the med, with a few exceptions, in some countries in Africa, the Middle East, including Pakistan, and one manufacturer of Pentazocine tabs, in Thailand.

US Customs, Interpol, & the United Nations, Pentazocine, was addressed in 2003, as still a problem medication, due to recreational abuse, outside the USA, and further restrictions, were placed on the production, of Pentazocine...ie TalwinPX, Sosegon, Fortral in the pure tablet form, by many countries placing the med in a stricter "controlled med Category". The results have been a stigma for script writing of this med, and, even, government intervention, to ban the production, of Pentazocine, such as the county of Japan, or, mfgr's
withdrawal of Pentazocine HCI tablets in its pure form, after this 2003 conference, or, a tighter restriction on prescribing the medication, outside the USA, in effect, placing the med, in a Class 3, or a USA C-II catefory.
I personally, have unconfirmed reports, that Krka Pharmaceuticals, may have stopped production of Pentazocine tablets, beginning in 2012, marketed heavily, in Eastern Europe, including Russia, and some former, states of the former USSR, and the Cz Republic countries, and Balkan States. It is a fact, that Sanofi world headquarters in France, has stopped production in France, Switzerland, and other countries, of the potent 50mg white round tablets, due to a combination of reduced sales, high street recreational abuse, "that has ruined it for many worldwide consumers, who, seek out this controversial drug" Most people either hate the medication, or "Love the medication" for its pain relieving properties. I personally,
like the med very much, always have, but the foreign sources, are disappearing rapidly. The liquid version for IM or IV use, is ironically, easily available in most all countries, in Africa, the Middle East, and even Europe, and the USA, in its pure unadulturated original pure form. (only in liquid version) not commonly stocked in USa pharmacies. Canada was the only country I am aware of that still produces the "talwin P" tabs, without
the Noxolone HCI added, as recently as 2009. current status in 2012, I am not sure of. (the the Western Hemisphere).
