Talwin Overview

Pentazocine, sold under the brand name Talwin among others, is a painkiller used to treat moderate to severe pain. It is believed to work by activating (agonizing) κ-opioid receptors (KOR) and blocking (antagonizing) μ-opioid receptors (MOR). As such it is called an opioid as it delivers its effects on pain by interacting with the opioid receptors. It shares many of the side effects of other opioids like constipation, nausea, itching, drowsiness and a reduced effort to breathe, but ...

Yellowish oblong pill scored T5 on one side squiggly lines on the other side

Friends visiting from Europe gave me a couple of pills. They are yellowish oblong maybe peach in color, scored T5 on one side and squiggly lines on the other side. They told me it was for back pain but I'm hesitant to take it without knowing what it is. Can you help? ## Hi Mike, I actually came across a very similar pill that seems to fit a good portion of your description. It's a yellow oblong tablet, approximately 16.00mm in length. The front of the pill has the letter "T" imprinted on the left side of a score line and on the right side is the number "51". On the back the pill there is a logo of a cursive "W" in a box, which from your description sounded like it could possibly correspond with the squiggly lines. This particular pill is identified as Tal...

Taking Talwin that is 20 years old

I have some Talwin that I started taking for back pain and they seem to work really well. They are made by Winthrop, yellow with a w on one side and wt 51 on the other. Prescription dated 1994. Do you think taking these can do any harm? ## Talwin contains Pentazocine, and Naloxone, it is used to treat pain, and to prevent the abuse of other medications, while someone is being treated with it. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. But at 20 years, while they aren't dangerous, they will likely not still be effective, so it would be best to dispose of them, and see your doctor for a new prescription, if needed. Is there anything else I can help with?

Found Small White Round Pills With Winthrop On One Side And Two Dots Other

i found small white pill winthrop on one side and two dots on the other side can somebody identify this? ## I'm sorry, but I can't find any listings for this in our U.S. prescription drug resources. Was it found in the U.S. or elsewhere? In the current databases, there is only one tablet with the Winthrop marking, it's oval and blue. I believe the company used to have more on the market, but that was years ago. It's also possible that it is an over the counter product or a foreign medication. Does anyone recognize this? ## I JUST FOUND THE SAME PILLS GOING THROUGH SOME OLD MEDICINE. INSIDE THE BOX IT SAYS "ONE EVERY 6 HOURS AS NEEDED FOR PAIN" THE BOX IS ALSO DATED 8-3-62. I'M GUESSING THEY ARE TOO OLD TO KNOW. ## TALWIN 50mg (pentazocine) an opiate agonist/a...

talwin-pentazocine/naloxone

My pharmacist notified me that the above med is no longer made. Can I get it by any other name or how can I contact the manufacturer to see if it will be made again? After trying many meds over 10 years it is the only one that works for my wife. Please help. thank you ## My pharmacist told me the same thing here in Michigan about 5 days ago....I called 17 local pharmacies and found (1) that had 150 tablets left and I was able to get them. I was told a couple different things: 1. The drug company was going through a major re-organization and there was a backorder, and 2. The drug is on indefinite hiatus. Either way, it will be very bad for me as well. I'm very intolerant to MANY pain relievers and this medication has worked for me for over 10 years with NO side effects. I was wonderi...

I was cleaning an old rental of mine and found a bottle of round, pink tablets. One side has a T/ 21 and the other has a cursive W. Talwin HCL maybe???? These are in an old bottle. Old printing Rx. Help. ## Possibly a darvon compound-propoxyphene that's no longer sold in the US. ## Please throw these pills away. Medication deteriorates with time. Some meds become poisonous. Taking Talwin for pain wile on Suboxone

I have been on suboxone for 2 years now for opioid dependency . Yesterday I saw an oral surgeon who pulled my bottom teeth for dentures. The surgeon peracribed talwin for the pain. Will this have any side affects taken with my suboxone, and or will it even work. I'm afraid I'll be sent into withdrawals or still be in pain. Please respond as soon as possible im in a lot of pain and Motrin is not working. ## Hello, Meagan! How are you feeling? No, the Naloxone in the Suboxone will most likely block the Talwin from working. Ideally, he should have had you stop the Suboxone for a few days, before doing the extractions. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsin...
