Switching From Oxycontin To Xtampza Er Problems (Top voted first)

Updated

I'm in the process of switching from Oxycontin to xtampza er (insurance company forcing me to change) and I have experienced
some issues with effectiveness. I've taken Oxycontin for about 15+ years as well as fast acting oxycodone. Now that I am taking xtampza when I need to take the fast acting oxy I'm experiencing itching and stinging sensations as well as a mild cough as if I'm having an allergic reaction; in particular around my eyes and mouth. I take the xtampza with food but I don't know how much food and of what kind will work best. I have been on a roller coaster ride of poor pain control now for 6 weeks and I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar issues? I've gone from having a reduced life to little life at all.

What dose were you taking of the Oxycontin, and what dose have they given you of the Xtampza?

They are both time released Oxycodone medications, so a switch should be fairly straightforward.

I also tried checking for possible reactions between the Xtampza, and regular release Oxycodone, but didn't find anything.

Have you consulted your doctor about the symptoms you're experiencing?

The FDA lists the typical side effects of Oxycodone as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth, and warns about the risk of it being habit forming.

Ref: Medline Plus Oxycodone

Well I can tell you Xztampa is horrible it's not even close to as good as the Oxycontin!! I tried 2 of the highest doses switch are a weird number if o remember right like 42mg or something like that but in in the process of changing from 100mg MS Contin to the 40mg Oxycontin I'm about to find out today if my insurance company is going to accept it I doubt they will but the M.S. Contin is horrible it does nothing for my pain I've tried it for about a year now and they won't get a different brand like I asked them to I would try n see if that would work but no help of course!! All I can say is good luck and theirs not much else to choose from when it comes to ER meds
