I have an infected large bump on my calf. What is the extensive list of side effects for this medication?

I feel sorry for you guys and myself too. I took this damn medication the second time the first night I start to feel weird but didn't notice anything until the morning I was feeling ok at first then I start to tremble and feel sick kind of nausea. So I drive myself to the emergency room!!! Which I shouldn't do because is dangerous. Anyway the damn emergency room have me wait for 3 hours to go in! Their I sit looking at the tv and feel like death! I keep on telling myself I'm going to make it, I'm going to make it. Hours went by they didn't call me. I told them I need immediate attention but they say sorry we are busy. I understand they are busy but the people coming in the back of me looks like they ok like sinus or something not something major like like me and I can hear them laughing and joking too. So they let them go first! So I got depress and start going in the kitchen place at the emergency room just to get a powerbar to fill my body up. The next thing I knew I rush to the bathroom and puke like hell! I started to think I'm going to die because I felt tremble all over my body looking at myself in the mirror. But somehow I remind myself that I will make it and no body will give a crap about you if you dye in this bathroom. So I went back to the emergency room 1 hour I have to wait again. So they call me in finally and have me wait in the other room for another 25 minute! Again I told myself keep being strong! So finally the damn doctor came and I told him the situation then all he just told me is the drug will go away in 48 hours!? I ask him can you give me something like so I won't feel nausea because I have to drive home? I'm feeling sick? All he say is you'll be fine!? I'm like please just give me something for nausea. Then he say something like sure I'll give you this to put under your tongue. That was the only thing helpful for them. Then I came home very sad and depressed. Plus their was so much noise in my house. So I just went to bed feeling like s**t! The only thing that help was the nausea thing that they put under my tongue. So somehow like hell I force my mind through to sleep! I can't believe I'm still alive and make through that night! This morning I felt a little bit better only but still not 100 percent myself. Everytime when I eat I feel like having a fever. Right now as I'm righting I feel better knowing that I'm not alone. I know it will subside in 2 more damn days. I know this s***ty medicine will be banned in the future. I will take legal action if neccessary. Love you all and stay safe and say no to drug and so called prescription drug that claim to be safe. Make this a learning lesson for all of us.

I took sulfameth for three weeks to treat a skin infection. First two weeks no problem but the third week I (last Sunday) I noticed I was having trouble breathing a bit. Din't think much of it. That night I was feverish and had to go pee about 20 times during the night. next day noticed a rash on my arms and my lips were sore. Still didn't relate it to the medicine so took one more dose tues then went to the Dr. He told me to stop the drug and take an anti-histamine for the rash. It's been three days now, my bottom lip blistered and I have a bad rash on my body! what a nightmare. everyday I pray that this drug will get out of my body. DO NOT TAKE Sulfameth/TMP. It is seriously dangerous.

I would never take this drug again. I only took two doses . I started getting extreme dizziness and then the panic attacks kicked in. I also found every time I walked , my knees felt as if they were going to give way from underneath me. Once my skin started burning I thought enough was enough and threw the rest of the tablets in the bin. I was prescribed these for a UTI.

Headache, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or loss of appetite. None of the above common side effects require immediate attention. If you experience them for a few days, talk to your physician about more advice. Do not try to treat them on your own.

Less Common Side Effects
Muscle aches/pains, difficulty breathing, unusual bleeding/bruising, bluish fingernails/lips, any blood disorders, joint aches/pains, pain or difficulty passing urine, skin rash, hives, itching, yellowing of the eyes/skin, lower back pain, allergic reactions, unusual weakness/tiredness, fever, chills, sore throat, increased sensitivity to the sun/ultraviolet light, any redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth. Contact your doctor right away if you've experienced any of these Less Common Side Effects.

Karen - what you are experiencing sounds more like a bad allergic reaction to this drug than simply side effects. If there is any way you can get into an urgent care center that would be ideal, even if you have discontinued use. Or at the very least I'd call your doctor's office to report what you are experiencing. Once you tell them, they might advise you to do the same thing, or they might say that discontinuing use should result in your reaction subsiding within several days. It is also a possibility that they will want you to take Benadryl or something similar to help the reaction subside more quickly.

That's intense, and I'm sorry to hear that your body is reacting so strongly to this drug. Good luck and please reply and keep us all posted with what happens!

Have been on for 2 days, tossed and turned feeling like my skin was sooo hot, barely got sleep. My skin just feels so hot and I am not putting another pill in my mouth. I don't have an appetite, but I don't mind that for a few days!...lol

Hi Ellen,

It sounds like your body is not reacting well to this medication, as what you have reported is beyond the threshold of normal side effects (especially the back pain). I would recommend letting the prescribing physician know because you might need to be switched to a different med.

If your having serious side affects to this medication, i would go to the ER, or call your doctor, if the doctor is not willing to help, go talk to another. I to was put on this medication for UTI. Was nauseous, chills, felt like my chest and back was on fire ( no fever ) aches and pains in my back, sometimes so badly i couldn't sit long periods of time. Me personally, i think this drug has sent me down a spiral of problems, i have never been the same since. I took the drug four months ago, and still having troubles with aches, hot spots, nervousness, anxiety, fatigue, weakness and i'm always tired.I had all sorts of tests, nobody can find out what is wrong. not all people might experience what i have, just here to make a statement and tell my story. but if you feel this drug is harming you, then seek help or do what you feel is best for you, only you know your own body. I took Sulfameth twice daily from about Jan 3 to Jan 9. On Jan 13 I developed a mild measle like rash over all of my body except me head and my are red all over. Nothing hurts. I have pain or fever. My doctor on Jan 14 thinks this is a delayed reaction to Sulfameth medication. Does that make sense? As of now Jan 16 I have the same rash but it seems to be going away in that the red color is fading. Only other out of kilter is my blood sugar reading I take each morning. It went from 132 yesterday to 212 today. Took 2 more reading and both were even higher. I have a call into Free style maker of the unit that provides my blood sugar reading to see if they think unit is running correctly.

i just took my last dose of this stuff :/ funny thing is, about 4 hours before i took it, i started getting really itchy. checked why, and of course i had a rash :/ ive had the headaches like most others on here, along with fatigue. but this itching is the worse itching ive ever had :/ first thing to itch was my feet, then my hands and face (which wasnt as bad). ive also got the rash on my back, arms, and legs. but from what ive seen here, apparently theres not much i can do XD im done with the meds anyways, so i cant stop taking it, its already gone. however i did take some store brand allergy medicine and it helped the itching and made me a little less...groggy XD still a little itchy but its dealable now ^^ ill be going to the doctor first thing in the morning though, cause i was taking it for a staph infection and they said they wanted to make sure it was taking effect, which personally i think its gone :/ if i ever get another staph infection, and they decides to prescibe me this again, i wont let them cause this is rediculous >.< last day of my meds and i break out :(

I concure. No sleep and jitters. Feel like I am coming out of my skin. Called the Dr and he changed my med 2 days ago but I still feel like crap. It takes 3 or 4 days to get it out of your system. NEVER AGAIN.

I just started using this medicine and on about the thrid day of using it I recieved one of the worst headaches I've ever had and I also threw up twice during the headache. I have also expirened fatigue and loss of appetite during the days I took the medicine. I'm going to ask for a new antibiotic.

I too am experiencing the same issues as everyone else. Headache, tossing and turning through the night, loss of appetite, I'm supposed to take 2 every 8 hours but I am definitelh going to change It!

I started this stuff yesterday for a UTI. I've taken it before and I had no side effects, well this time of taking it I have bad diarreah and hot sweats and it makes my stomach make these weird noises and it also bubbles up. This all hit me last night at like 1 in the morning. I called my doctor and a nurse answered the phone so I'm waiting for a call back from my doctor. I felt way better when I wasn't on this antibiotic by just laying in bed and sleeping and relaxing. I can honestly say I'd rather have a small UTI than take this deathly pill. I literally think this is poison because it's awful. If I was a doctor I wouldn't recommend it to anybody! Good luck to anybody who takes it. Hope you all feel better :)

Got the headache first then my teeth and gums started hurting. Eardrums are sensitive to sound and eyes hurt and I have 15 days to go. I will cut in half for now but never again will I take this crap.

after 5 days the headache got real bad. I cut the pill in half to take at a half dose.Last night went to bed and couldn't sleep stomach started burning got up to get something for it. I felt I had to go to the bathroom, I made it to the bathroom and that was the last I remember I must have past out when I came too I was on the floor. Tried to get back to bed only made it half way and had to lay down on the floor then I started vomiting I was too weak to get to bed. I lay ed on the floor for some time then crawled on the floor to my bed I had a very hard time pulling myself into bed. This morning I stopped taking them This stuff should be taken off the market. I am not allergic to sulfur I have taken it before for UT infection. This stuff is like poison I think it would have killed me if I hadn't stopped it might still. I have been drinking lots of water since I have been taking it and started on antihistamines. But they need to pull this stuff off the market.

on day 5 of a 7 day course for cellulitis in my navel, caused from surgery (cholecystectomy). Extreme fatigue, either sleep for 10 hours or can't get to sleep, sharp abdominal pain, no appetite, and just feel sick.
And the cellulitis is not getting worse but it's not gone, either. i'm going to tough it out for two more days because the thought of going back into surgery is more frightening. But i will never take this drug again.

I've been taking it for over 6 days now and I've been miserable I thought a lot of the abdominal pain was from my period but it stopped and the pain is still there I feel like I have to catch my breath constantly I couldn't sleep but maybe two hours a night I've been puking and every inch of me hurts.. I know your thinking why did you put up with that for so long ... Well my periods have always sucked and most of those symptoms I sometimes can have during a normal cycle .. but 3 days after its the meds ...

Terrible medicine!! I was prescribed this antibiotic for a bug bite on my back that became infected. I took it twice a day for 5 days when things went downhill fast. Started with chills and sweats at work, as well as neck and lower back muscle aches. By the end of the 5th day, I was so utterly exhausted I couldn't think straight. 6th day was much the same. Called the doctor and we decided to stop taking the medicine. However, it was too late. On the 7th night, I fainted when getting up to get water. Then fell. Then fainted again, all within 6 hours. Woke up with total body rash. Ended up in urgent care. I will never take this again, nor will any of my family. After getting a benedryl and steroid shot, which helped tremendously, and 4 new prescriptions, including an epi pen, I was sent home. The following day, however, the rash started itching like there was no tomorrow. Such torture. My skin is so discolored, it's scary and looks like it will never go back to normal. I've soaked in oatmeal baths to calm the skin down. This is soooo upsetting, I've missed 2 days of work, no sleep, total misery. It's like I'm an addict and my crack is scratching. I've never been so miserable in my life and it's taking so long to get out of my system, it's been over a week now. Prayers for me please, I appreciate it. Mimi :-)
