Prednisone 20mg - 3 Tablets Once Daily - What Does This Mean? (Top voted first)

Hi. I have been prescribed prednisone 20 mg. On the bottle it says take 3 tablets once daily. Does this mean i take 3 at 1 time?

My bottle says take 3 tablets (prednisone 20mg) by mouth everyday for 5 days. Do i take them all at once or 1 with breakfast, lunch and dinner?

Crystal... I was prescribed Prednisone,my 1st day I took 3 pills 1 in the morning 1 at lunch 1 at night. Was I suppose to take them together? and if so, on the 2nd day it says take 2 pills a day for the next 3 day's, do I go ahead and take them at once everyday until I'm done with it?

Yes and it is a typical way for this medication to be prescribed, in order to give you a high dose to treat the relevant condition.

I was told by my PCP and the Walgreen Pharmacy to take three Prednisone at one time on the first day and three at one time on the second day and three at one time on the third day.......then it changes to two at one time for three days ........then it changes to one a day for three days.
Be sure to eat something first.

Instead of listening to people who might not be professionals why don't you call the prescribing physician for clarification, or the pharmacist where you filled your prescription! Don't trust what you read on here to be true! meducine is nothing to fool around with when you get advice from non professionals!!!!!

I absolutely agree with you. Prednisone prescribed is for several different reasons. I think it all depends what you are taking it for as far a dosage and how to take it. I am on it for 5 days for acute bronchitis I was prescribed 20mg. it says take 2 tablets daily.When I called the pharmacist he said I could take them together. Me...I would have spaced them out 12 hours apart. Pays to check with the professional.

You should take them all at once each day...this is to increase the effectiveness of it. It can be taken with milk and it is advised to eat something first. Side effects can cause nausea, decreased appetite, and insomnia so I would also suggest taking them in the morning.

Yes...it means to take them all at the same time. It would say- take 1 (one) 20mg tablets po tid....which means take 1 tab, by mouth, three TIMES a day if he wanted you to take it at 3 separate times.

Yes they should be taken at one time then weened down.this is ment to bring the problem under control then get you off them.

I was put on 20MG prednisone for nine days 3 tabs for 3 days. 2 tabs for 3 days. 1 tab for. 3 days. I also take Zyrtec, Zantac, B12,D3,Prozac, lipitor, benzepril, & 81 aspirin. Will these meds be ok to take along with the prednisone.

Usually that is how prednisone is prescribed , taking it specially before night might cause insomnia. Doctors recommend it to be taken with breakfast.
