Norco 10 3 25 Vs Percocet
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I've been taking Norco 10/3.25 for years for severe chronic pain--It's now no longer effective at all--I'm wondering about changing to Percocet 10/3.25 and whether this would be a stronger, more effective and longer lasting med to take--I've tried also Oxy.10 mg. hcl and they work so so and notice I need to take way more often than I ever did with Norco. I don't want to go this route at all!! I'm hoping the Percocet would change all this. Does it?

If you been taking Norco by Allergan you are out of luck unless you can get it on the streets ! They stopped without any notice and my pharmacist says they can’t get it any more. The company was bought by Abbivie and said they stopped making it. I am suffering to. I called the company and got no reply. So you have to ask your doctor for a completely different pain killer. I am trying several different ones. Get away from generic and you will be ok. Generic drugs are cut so bad. Got to take double to work or if they don’t do nothing. Your only choice.

You are so right but where I'm from if u go to the doctors and complain about anything they give you hydrocodone. If u go to the hospital they give u hydrocodone even if nothing is broken or sprained. In my opinion you are correct about everything you are saying. However some people do create their pain for the high or for extra income. Also I believe it's the doctors fault everyone is so addicted to pain medication. They are contracted with pharmaceutical companies and get paid big bucks for writing those prescriptions. And the suppliers get paid big bucks for supplying them. Then when they get the patients addicted they want to blame the patients which is b.s. because doctors know u can only take it for so long before having to double up a certain time of day because of pain. Or maybe pains just got worse. Then they prescribe a stronger opiate for pain or methadone to wean u off or take down tolerance. It's all a set up for them to make money and kill us off. While people are stuck with an addiction or overdosing. Like seriously I used to consume marijuana and it helped. The experience was nothing like taking pills & it's natural. It also helps with many other illnesses or diseases. No one dies or overdoses or gets an addiction to anything like opiates. So why not prescribe it? Smh, they didn't want to because they weren't making $$ off it & it was illegal. Well now its legal & they wanna charge us outta pocket for the card and prescription. Some ppl are not going for that, especially when their insurance pays for every script & dr. visit. And if I'm not mistaken they do have THC in the pill form that's given to younger cancer patients for pain. It's all a set up and the patients are suffering along with the families of those that are addicted.

I would seek a good teaching hospital and get a referral to a pain management specialist. Nobody with a legitimate need should be denied treatment for pain. In fact, some years ago, The A.M.A. stated that pain should be treated as a primary illness. If all else fails, I would hire a good malpractice attorney.

New regulations restricting pain medications were intended to cut back on pill mills and the black market for pharmaceutical opioid drugs, not prevent their legitimate use. People who label you a drug abuser are simply ignorant. If you have a diagnosed need for pain control, nobody has the right to interfere or cut off your medication. You may additionally want to seek advice from a non-profit organization that helps people in your situation. They can easily be found on the web.

Good luck. My prayers are with you.

As a person who is uninsured and has suffered severe pain for most of my adult life..
I have a very high tolerance to medication, it may be because of my built up tolerance for pain over the years?
Last summer I was attacked by a dog and had to have surgery on my hand.
I was prescribed percocet 10 as i had explained that nothing i have ever taken has really helped.
I have seen opiate abuse completely destroy people and their families, even kill.
While the 10 made me not feel the pain, i had to split and ration my dosages..
I knew any type of relief would not be there for me in the future..
The only thing i can do at this point is to hope one day I can be treated.
Diagnosed w fibromyalgia 2005, sarcoidosis 2013, and severe lower back pain for about 12 years.
I live in Florida and its nearly impossible to go to a doctor for chronic pain without them suspecting you are a "pill head" addict, or abuser.
Any advice on how I could get help without medical insurance in southwest florida?

So you're saying they're dead from what? I think you refer to an addict...,not to be confussed with a pain patient turned dependant/tolerant. But it is still a living Hell. Do that book asap because the system is in need of serious help. Noone but a patient seems to understand, not even Dr. I do see how this constant circus can break a person to not want to be alive...,but I have children and a mother that I fight the good fight for. Sometimes I want cancer just to make the choice for me...

I was taking percocet 10/325 this past week after surgery and now I'm back to taking Norco 10/325. The Norco do NOTHING. I thought it was the brand but now I'm thinking it's because I'm withdrawing from the Percocet. I'm super sleepy, chilly and moody. I only took the Percocet for a week but was surely stronger. Thank you in advance for your thoughts. I want to feel better. If I just need to be patient them that's fine. I'd rather take the least addicting medicine while my shoulder heals. Rotator cuff tear.

I have been diagnosed with 6 chronic illnesses Verwon the first one at age 15 the next 5 over the next two years. I am now 29 years old and only take percoset at times that I desperately need it maybe one at most two a day. I understand where you're coming from, but people on this site aren't looking for criticism, there looking for guidance.

I don't think it's appropriate to state that everyone is 'creating' their pain just to get pain medications. Some people have health problems that they are born with, are suffering from cancer, or have suffered severe injuries that cause pain and they legitimately need help, thus showing compassion for those that suffer is much more appropriate.

I hate to see anyone in pain and trying to deal with these types of issues. I've been there and I know how bad and miserable it can be.

And as to the medications, Oxycodone is stronger than Hydrocodone, so there is a chance that it may provide you with more pain relief.

For each 10mgs of Hydrocodone, you only require 6.67mgs of Oxycodone.

Thus, trying Percocet may be a good idea, but it's something you'll need to discuss with your doctor.

Are there any other comments or questions?

As a recovering opiate user(yes for a torn lower back muscle),I to took Norco for almost a year. But as I went to physical therapy, did my stretches,, received many deep massages, for some bizarre reason my pain went away.I am not trying to sound like it was a breeze stopping the Norco! The physicalAND mental dependence was turning me into someone I despised!I broke a relationship with the wonderful man in the world after 13 years, quickly married a sociopathic screamaholic, went to a treatment center to 1st get off that "killer of pain."In Recovery, I met many people of all walks of life,Dr's to doorman, grandmas buying it off the streat, etc.MANY are dead now,or on their way to. To hopefully make a greater impact than I can here, I am co-authoring a book about my life, where 50% of book sales will go for more research, education, etc. on how to effectively treat ALL pain, and really live w/o that"i gotta get my pills, or I'll die, i mean it , I'll really die body, so you better get me that stuff or, or or I'll......God Bless You and all the others struggling with "I create the pain, to get to the pain meds."sighned No Blm

Carly, I was addicted and on Norco for over 15+yrs. on and off for chronic back pain with mulitple problems, which they(the Dr.'s) have yet to fix. The same thing happens w/e.one that has been taking Norco for a long period of time. At one point, for yrs., I was taking up to 5-6 10/325 Norcos at a time every 2-3hrs to keep up with the pain and with the withdrawls. It/I was out of control but, the pain was so intense I had no choice. Plus, I had seen at least a few dozen different specialists, p. mgmt, ect. M.S. Contin Extended Release lasts up to 8hrs., plus, you might want to talk to ur Dr. about taking methadone for a short while until you can wean urself down from the Norco, if u r taking too many like I was. But, see as many specialist and don't stop until u do find the right one that will and can fix ur pain. Becuz, Trust Me...These pills WILL (if they haven't already) ruin ur life! I had to go to detox to get my tolerence down. And, now I try to only take them when I can't handle the pain anymore. Becuz eventually, the pills WILL take over ur life and that pertains to EVERONE! TAKE CARE AND GOOD LUCK. If u need anything else, I know everything about narcotics, I've been taking them since '96. Wish u well.

I personally was in the same situation as you and I changed from Norco to percocet 10 325. It's much more effective then the Norco was but they have the same time frames. I sampled for a while 15 milligram oxycodones and didn't like those because there is no acetaminophen. I'm glad I made the change 2 percocet 10 325 rather than saying on Norco
