Looking For A Pain Doc That Will Prescribe Me Stronger Meds
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I had 2 back surgeries in the last 2 years and the 1st failed(lumbar fusion), pain only gets worse and my doctor does not prescribe anything stronger than 5mg Oxycodones 4x day, I explained that they don't get the job done but he insists that this is the strongest he can go!!! Please help me, I am at Palm beach county but work in Broward so any of them work.
Thanks

Roro has a great idea! Last year my PM doctor told me that we just had to get close to that magic 90 number. I was taking 2-30mg MSContin and 3 Oxycodone 10-325. I felt the best way to go was to change Oxycodone to Hydrocodone because I could still have 3 short acting meds per day and for the most part it has worked great. That is exactly the 90MME and he let me keep the 12 dilaudid I take when nothing else works. Have not been to an ER in 3 years due to having the Dilaudid. I didn't see alot of difference between the Oxycodone and the Hydrocodone after my body adjusted. Its worth a try.

You seem to be forgetting the cdc morphine equivalent chart ...

15mg is probably morphine extended release thus equal to 15mg of morphine ... hydrocodone also is equal to morphine ratio 1:1. Oxycodone on the chart is actually 1.5:1 ratio so an oxycodone 10/325 is equal to 3 x 5mg & 325 of hydrocodone, or 2 x 7.5mg hydrocodone, or 1 x 15mg morphine ...

The cdc does not actually limit the amount of opioids a dr can script BUT large amounts must have an explanation in the file & that explanation must meet the auditors "whim" and many prescribers will not put their practice at the mercy of a whim... Last I read the CDC said anything over 90mg morphine equivalent needs an explanation but my dr says it was reduced to 50mg which would be 3 x 10/325 oxycodone @ 45mg ....

I finally got my dr to split my meds 2 x 15mg morphine & 2 x 10/325 hydrocodone a day which is 50mg total ...

To the author of thread, see if you can give up one oxycodone for 2 hydrocodone & increase daily amounts by 5mg ... Ask possibly like this .... "Can we do 2 oxycodone a day and 2 hydrocodone for break thru pain ... I can take an oxycodone in morn then when it is wearing off I can take a hydrocodone, then when pain increases again I can take an oxycodone again & as it wears of take a hydrocodone" ...

Hope this helps

He's lying. I was taking 15 mg tabs a day, and My Dr tried the same story on me. Look up the individual pill doses. They go up to 80mg!

So no way is 45 mg "Too much" unless you are small. Prayers.

Oxycodone is just one of many opiate pain medications that we can prescribe for moderate to severe pain. I don't know why the doctor told you that it's the strongest because it definitely is not. Any physician can prescribe any medications that have been approved by the FDA . There is Oxycodone without acetaminophen.....5, 10, 15, 20 and 30mg immediate release tablets. Dilaudid 2, 4 and 8mg tablets. You may want to find a doctor who will be straight with you about what types of pain meds are available to you., Instead of telling you something that isn't all together true.

To be honest; you are really fortunate to have found a doc to prescribe THAT much narcotics in this day and time!! There are ppl all over with severe pain that cannot get any narcotic pain control. Whatever you do; DON'T mess up with that doc unless you HAVE another to take his place! You could ask for other meds to take with your controlled drugs; like muscle relaxers, steroids, ect. Take care, God bless..

You may want to consider a boston scientific spinal cord stimulator ... there are videos on YouTube by boston & several of those that had on implanted (djporkchop73 has 3 years of his experiences with his relationship & effects of his scs) I had one implanted in sept & my 30 day follow up appt is coming up.... there is a trial time of a few days that you wear on a belt (I was doing things I haven't been able to do for years during my trial) I have not had my permanent implant very long obviously but it is still helping a lot. But I need too learn how too use it efficiently. There are boston scientific reps that you can call txt email, if you need help. I have contacted my 2 reps and they got back too me quickly even on sundays & evenings. This is a possible option just add dot com to company name for their website & just search boston scientific on you tube. I hope you look into it I chose to go ahead after a year or two of research & found out an acquaintance had a family member that got a scs & was doing great & that's what pushed me into talking to my pm clinic about getting one... they are implanted by a neurosurgeon.... hope you get something that helps you .... be well
