Levothyroxine Symptoms

Updated

Hello all,

I have been taking levothyorxine .05 for over six months, I felt better for a couple of months but now I feel like crap again. I depressed and taking a anti depressant, i have joint pain all the time am sensitive to cold. I'm always tired and feel unmotivated, i have gained 30 lbs with no signs of slowing down. I've been noticing lack of desire for food and will on eat because it feels like my blood sugar plummits about 5-7 hrs after taking my meds. I get jittery, and irritable and have to ear immediatly or i get so sick. When I went to my dr after a couple of months, they rechecked my levels and they were normal so they left me on the same dosage but I knew something is going on. I have not insurance and is finacially difficult for me to keep going to the dr or even a specialist.

Does anyone out there have any of these issues besides me? I feel like I going crazy thinking it all in my head but I know my body. Can anyone help or give me some insight

With those types of symptoms of your blood sugar plummeting and needing to eat, have you had your blood sugar levels checked?

You may be diabetic, or pre-diabetic.

Could be sugar problem for sure but I would go to a good Endo and see that al your levels are actually right.

I suggest that you immediately start eating smaller meals more often throughout the day[grazing] rather than overloading your stomach at the usual set meal times. It appears to me that your metabolism has slowed down and that could be why you're feeling cold. If possible, intersperse your grazing with some light exercise rather than just couching. Endorphins[gained from exercising] are a wonderful cure for just about any ailment, and they don't hurt a bit.

On a lighter note[given you seem concerned about your 30lbs accretion], I once heard of a person who was overweight and complained all the time about having joint pain until someone suggested to him that he might like to try massaging his rheumatoid reefers with a little liniment...before lighting[and lightening] up. There's no denying the fact that laughter's still considered the best medic_in e'sse.

A common complaint from most peopl I know who take any of the synthetic thyroid meds is weight gain. If you can get switched to the armour thyroid you will be able to lose those extra pounds. A GP usually goes by the outdated levels of what is "normal" try to see a specialist and then let your GP do the blood work etc, and consult with the spec. Please don't quit taking your meds. My little sister quit taking her thyroid and antidepresaint due to weight gain and no insurance, she went into a severe depression and committed suicide. My Dr. told me that it was probably due to stopping her meds, we had never been told that quitting a thyroid med could have that effect. I am sorry that you are going through this please talk to your Dr. And don't take any chances. My prayers are with you, just know that this very serious and try to get good care.

When I was first diagnosed last yr my (then dr) started me off on Amour, but I moved away from Orlando to Ft Lauderdale so I have a new dr. I got really sick and had my levels checked and the armour was just not working for me. Thank everybody for the feedback. I feel better knowing it is not just in my head.
