I am on Levothyroxine 88 mcg and I believe it is under recall. I was wondering, should I still take it as prescribed, or will they replace it for me with a different one?

Im on levothyroxine 100mcg. I was on 88mcg but my TSH went from 3.9 to 9.5 in three months. I had been getting some feet and ankle swelling with the 88's, but when i went on the 100's I have been going through Hell. My feet, ankles, calves and thighs are swollen
out of control. I have chronic pain anyway, but this triples it. Please show me reviews of patients having my symptoms. I have had Hashimotos Thyroiditis for 35 years and this is the worst Ive ever been. I quit taking it today. I have my right leg is 2 1/2 in shorter than left and being so swollen and limping with a cane is very painful.

My thryroxine has been changed from Mercury Pharma to Actavis. This pill is making me feel lethargic and generall out of sorts. I have visited all the pharmacies in the area and none of them are stocking M.P. I just don't know what to do.

My pharmacists from two different stores say that since you are taking medicines in micrograms you should only take the brand and stay with same mfg.

I had a thyroidectomy last August & went thru radiation because it was cancer. My Dr put me on 125 mcg Levothyroxin and realized it was too much after a few months of me being tired and gaining 20 lbs. She cut my dosage down to 112 mcg. I am feeling ok but I can't seem to get rid of the extra weight & I also am having itching & headaches. My Dr does not want to check my blood levels until April, I don't think that is soon enough. I feel as though it should have been checked after 2 mos of the med being reduced. I don't think she follows me as closely as she should. What do you guys think?

It may not be a "recall" due to something being wrong it might just be a discontinuation of that particular dose. e.g. in the US we have more pill doses made than in the UK. e.g. I don't think the UK has 80's, 112's nor 137's (all units mcg). but, it's easy, if you can't get 50's, just take 2 x 25's.

nativegirl29 Get back on Armour NDT! Doctors do not do enough tests to make decisions like this (i.e. switching your meds.) Stick to what made you feel well.

Ive lived with hypothyroidism since 2nd grade (47 years!) i was actually the 16th case known in United States at the time for being only 7 years old and diagnosed with it. My heart goes out to all of you that suffer with such side effects. Ive been very fortunate to get along with all of them. Although without them I AM A MESS. I go from a size 3 to a 10 seems like overnight, my hairloss, dry skin, cry over EVERYTHING and i can be quite b****ie if i have the strength lol. But it is very important to take them so hang in there cause once u find the right dose u cant believe the difference. Good luck to all...

According to my doctor and research I've done, Levothyroxine was pulled off the shelfs due to complaints regarding the medication having a smell. The FDA was required to pull it based on how many complaints were received. I didn't notice a smell and have never had any side effects from Levothyroxine. I am now on Tirosint, 137 mcg. It is much more expensive than Levothyroxine. I believe Levothyroxine will be available early 2014 and I plan to switch back to it. (I also take 5 mcg of Cytomel.)

Have you tried a gluten free diet? It helped me , I reacted very badly to levothyroxine, dr. Suggested lorazepam. I stopped the thyroid med and refused the antianxiety med and change my diet. I was reading that 100% of people who have Hashimoto's thyroiditis are gluten intolerant. I am working with a nutritionist. Feel better.

hi , sorry about late reply , my partner had the same problem with increased doses of his levothyroxine he was raised from 50mcg to 125mcg , he was okay at first on that dose then weeks later began having terrible side effects , extreme sickness, sleeping all the time , couldnt eat or drink, and also developed a red face i took him to the doctors and the doctor stated it was not his thyroid meds they do not cause side effects , but i new that it was something to do with those meds , eventually i managed to persuade the doctor to drop his dose back to 100mcg again , though reluctant he did reduce the dose, from what i have read online the dose is based on your weight , with my partner i assume because of the weight lose he also started to have toxic levels of levothyroxine .

I take Levothyroxine. One time I was given an alternative generic, because the one I used was out of stock. I had a reaction. I ended up in the hospital, and had to go through a bunch of tests for my heart. It turned out to be the change in medication. I went back onto Levothyroxine (as opposed to synthroid, etc.) and was fine. So, my best guess would be, yes, your body needs a little adjustment time.

You would become very unwell indeed so please don't stop taking your thyroid hormone - it is vital for every cell in the body. Have you tried natural thyroid replacement? There is lots of information about it online - Armour, Nature-Throid etc.

I believe the Canadian government needs to evaluate levothyroxine as well, after suffering serious adverse effects that I reported to Health Canada and the Canadian manufacturer Abbot, I vow to never touch this medication again. Eleven years I was misled to believe this was a stable reputable treatment...its not.

You sound as though you are definitely hypothyroid and in need of thyroxine replacement asap. All it would do is replace a hormone that your body is not producing in sufficient amounts to keep you feeling well. I would advise you to take them. Six months is too long to wait for next blood test - two to three is more appropriate. You may well need an increase until you regain a sense of well being.
