levothyroxine and vision loss
6 Replies RSS
Hi everyone, I am curious if anyone has experienced intermittent vision loss while being on levothyroxine. For about two months now my vision in my left eye will randomly disappear for 2-3 seconds and then slowly dissipate back to normal. I've been through a litany of exams -- retinal, cardiovascular, MRI/MRA -- that are all coming back clear and now we're wondering if it could be the medications I am on. I am also on humalog, lisinopril and Simvastin. Has anyone experienced symptoms like this with levothyroxine? ## Hello, Julia! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. Looking over your list of mediations, there is a chance that it might be due to the Simvastatin, according to the FDA, it has been known to cause several vision issues, which usually g...

I've been taking Levothyroxine 25mg for almost four months, first three months was fine, now seem to be having dizzy spells alot. (every day) also feeling bloated. Has anyone experienced this after 3 months of taking them? Another thing a couple of months ago my period was 13 days late!! its always been irregular but not normally that late. We are trying for a baby so i'm wondering if it could be pregnancy symtoms also. ## Hi. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I just wanted to reply because you aren't alone! I started at 75mcg, then 88, then 100. I experienced a dizzy spell followed by tremors in both hands and legs and was rushed to the ER. They thought I was having a stroke. Gave me an MRI/MRA, heart ultrasound, EKG and found everything to be normal. They did find my th...

Swelling in legs and feet levothyroxine
117 Replies RSS
I just started taking Levothyroxine 2 wks ago my legs and feet are swollen so bad by nite I can barley walk. They go down a little at nite but swell back. I am taking 25mcg and I am afraid to continue taking this med. Has any one else had this problem? ## Have you contacted your doctor? It sounds like you might be having a bad reaction to this medication and it may not be the right one for you, or may be too high of a dosage. Generally, the symptoms of a dosage being too high will start to manifest 6 days or so, after you start taking it and this type of fluid retention can be one of them and there is a chance that it could lead to congestive heart failure, if that's what's causing it and it isn't rectified. You should really contact your doctor immediately. ## I am on medic...

thyronorm overdose

A friend has taken 20 pills of thyronorm 25mcg out of hysteria.. What might be the repercussions? Please reply urgently. ## If you have reason to fear for the life and health of a loved one, you should contact your nearest emergency services or take them to the nearest emergency department, rather than posting online and waiting for an answer. And overdose of any medication is dangerous and risks death, organ damage and other serious health repercussions. High doses of the Levothyroxine in this creates the risk of seizures, strokes, heart palpitations and extremely high blood pressure. Even if she showed no ill effects, at the time she took them, she needs to see a doctor, because she could have done other damage to her body. How is she doing? ## I take 50mcg thyronorm daily. What if i ...

I have been taking 25mcg for about 6 weeks and feel much better, no weight loss, but no gain. I have developed acne on my chin and around the right side of my mouth...is this a side effect? Anyone else had this happen? ## ive been taking a 25mcg for a week now and am worried that i will develop acne. do many people get this ? ## I have been taking the same dosage as you for about 2 months and have had really bad breakouts EVERYWHERE that I didn't used to get. I now get them on my back, face, shoulders and neck. It's pretty gross and I've never had this problem before but I think it does have something to do with Levothyroxine. ## Hi, I am on thyroxine 4 weeks now and also have gotten acne on my chin and around the mouth. I was a perfectly healthy 14 year old until I grew very tired and went to see a doctor. We got blood work done & my tsh level was 150 (very bad) so my endocrine put me on 88mcg of levo. Im a little over a month into taking it and I've become very short of breath, having trouble excersising and today I fainted. I felt really nauseous and within 1 minute I passed out. Has anyone else experienced this?? I don't think it's normal but I'm curious if or how they fixed it. thanks ## I've been on 100mcg once daily and never experienced any side effects at all that I've noticed except sweating profusely so if I was you I'd consult your doctor or pharmacist and explain to them what you're experiencing an let them know if it's anything to do with the levo or...

Is levothyroxine the same as thyronorm?
2 Replies RSS
What are the benefits of thyronorm over levothyroxine? Do the symptoms like hair fall continue even after starting medication? ## They are the same, one is just a brand name and the other a generic name of the active ingredient. And yes, hair loss is a typical side effect of this medication, as reported by the U.S. FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight changes. Are you on any other medications? ## I took thyronorm for 26 years and switched to Levothyroxine after coming to the United States. Can you tell me whether it’s safe to proceed with Levothyroxine or move back to thyronorm? I have noticed a change in mood swings, hair loss as well as depression frequently with Levothyroxine.

Stopping Levothyroxine
124 Replies RSS
I have been taking Levothyroxine .88mg for the past two years. I just left town on a three week vacation and realized I left this prescription at home. Should I be concerned? ## If you suddenly stop taking Levothyroxine, your body can go through withdrawal. "Levothyroxine withdrawal may cause hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid. Hypothyroidism causes weight gain, fatigue, depression and sensitivity to cold because your body does not have enough thyroid hormone so your body processes slow down. Patients with thyroid cancer may suffer acute hypothyroidism because of levothyroxine withdrawal." Referenced from: livestrong.com/article/levothyroxine-withdrawal Since you've been taking this medication for so long, I would consider contacting your doctor about this if you have be...

Gain weight with thyroid medication

I have been on 50 mcg of levothyroxine for 5 months and I have gained 15 pounds. My doctor tells me that it should be the opposite and that I should loose weight. Is this possible? Have any of you taking this drug has experienced the same? ## I was on 50mg for about 2 weeks and noticed I had gained 10 pounds. So I stopped taking it and gained another 15lbs. now my test showed me to be 5.9 and my new doctor put me on 15mg. She said this will help me loose weight that the 50mg wasn't strong enough to help me not gain the weight. ## I have gained 15 pounds on synthroid. It made me edgy and caused gastrointestinal problems. ## I also was on Levothyroxine 50 for a few months and gained 10 pounds and had severe constipation. My doctor told me not diet and take Metamucil. I felt sure it wa...

Levothyroxine For Men

Why are woman prescribed levothyroxine more often than men? ## Women are the ones that most commonly develop thyroid issues, at least according to NIH studies, though I supposed it is possible that they may also just see a doctor more often and end up being diagnosed more than men. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes, and hair loss. Is there anything else I can help with?
