Taking Levothyroxine tablets...how?
5 Replies RSS
Hi everyone, I'm a sufferer from hypothyroidism; I was just wondering about how to take Levothyroxine; because I began taking it as one tablet of 25mcg....working up to two...then three...and then finally four 25mcg tablets, at which point a blood test told me through my doctor, that my thyroid was now apparently working well. I figured it would be OK for me now to take just one tablet, of 100mcg, rather than four ( was given a choice of both types). So once my 25mcg tablets started running to run out, that's what I did. However, whether I imagined it or not, I found myself happier on the four X 25mcg than the one X 100mcg. Is this normal? Should I worry? I have more or less run out of the 25mcg tablets for the time being...any suggestions what I might be going through, and what...

swelling in legs and feet levothyroxine
107 Replies RSS
I just started taking Levothyroxine 2 wks ago my legs and feet are swollen so bad by nite I can barley walk. They go down a little at nite but swell back. I am taking 25mcg and I am afraid to continue taking this med. Has any one else had this problem? ## Have you contacted your doctor? It sounds like you might be having a bad reaction to this medication and it may not be the right one for you, or may be too high of a dosage. Generally, the symptoms of a dosage being too high will start to manifest 6 days or so, after you start taking it and this type of fluid retention can be one of them and there is a chance that it could lead to congestive heart failure, if that's what's causing it and it isn't rectified. You should really contact your doctor immediately. ## I am on medic...

Please help. Is the levothyroxine making me crazy?
9 Replies RSS
I was diagnosed with hypothyroid about 7 yrs ago. I was taking 50 mcg of levothyroxine up until now. I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and my new doctor put me on 125 mcg. My doc says i have to be on a higher dose during pregnancy or the baby will be born with birth defects or have learning disabilities. The road has been really rocky. My moods have been up and down, i suffer from severe depression, mood swings, horrible anger, memory loss, bad anxiety attacks and fear of loosing myself. I litterally feel crazy. I asked my doctor and there is nothing she can do except put me on some antidepressant. I dont think i need that and i dont really like takin meds like that. I absolutely think the levothyroxine is making me worse. I feel suicidal and thats not something i want to feel esp. durin...

Sandoz Levothyroxine
3 Replies RSS
Recently filled a prescription for Levothyroxine 150 mcg and noticed a very fowl smell and ultimately a slightly different taste when taking it. One side of the pill is marked with "150" and the other side with "GG338." We questioned the pharmacist about this and they opened a new bottle that smelled the same to us, but she didn't smell anything so nothing was done. I know Levoxyl was discontinued for a while for this very problem. Is there any information out there about this Sandoz product? ## If you had a chance to read the FDA recall information, the odor it was recalled for was actually due to a problem with the absorbent canister that was packaged in the bottles, not the pills themselves. However, the odor was not found to cause any adverse health issues, or pr...

A friend has taken 20 pills of thyronorm 25mcg out of hysteria.. What might be the repercussions? Please reply urgently. ## If you have reason to fear for the life and health of a loved one, you should contact your nearest emergency services or take them to the nearest emergency department, rather than posting online and waiting for an answer. And overdose of any medication is dangerous and risks death, organ damage and other serious health repercussions. High doses of the Levothyroxine in this creates the risk of seizures, strokes, heart palpitations and extremely high blood pressure. Even if she showed no ill effects, at the time she took them, she needs to see a doctor, because she could have done other damage to her body. How is she doing? ## I take 50mcg thyronorm daily. Levothyroxine and fainting
17 Replies RSS
I was a perfectly healthy 14 year old until I grew very tired and went to see a doctor. We got blood work done & my tsh level was 150 (very bad) so my endocrine put me on 88mcg of levo. Im a little over a month into taking it and I've become very short of breath, having trouble excersising and today I fainted. I felt really nauseous and within 1 minute I passed out. Has anyone else experienced this?? I don't think it's normal but I'm curious if or how they fixed it. thanks ## I've been on 100mcg once daily and never experienced any side effects at all that I've noticed except sweating profusely so if I was you I'd consult your doctor or pharmacist and explain to them what you're experiencing an let them know if it's anything to do with the levo or...

using expired Levothyroxine
3 Replies RSS
I had been on the same levothyroxine prescription for about 25 years. In the last 3 years my medication has had to be readjusted 3 times. Now I am back on a lower dose and wanted to know if I can still use the previous, leftover supply that has expired about 1-2 years ago? ## Hello, Laurene! How are you? Medications tend to lose effectiveness over time and since treating a thyroid disorder is so touchy, it would be best to dispose of the expired ones and obtain a new supply. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, hair loss and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for your feedback on using expired levothyroxine., ## What effects would I feel if taking expired thyroxine

Levothyroxine and your period - should I worry if I don't get it
2 Replies RSS
Do I have to worry about missing my period while on levothyroxine, since that might be the reason why I missed it? ## Hi. I'm 34 yrs old and I've been on levothyroxine tablets for some 2-3 months. I've been on my period for 5 days with back pain and feeling very crampy. What should I do? Please help me. ## @Cherie, If missing your period becomes a regular thing, I would encourage you to consult your prescribing doctor and/or a gynecologist who specializes in the female reproductive system; more or less just to be on the safe side. However, my understanding is that missing periods may be more common when taking things that alter your hormones. NIH also lists "menstrual changes" as a less common side effect of Levothyroxine. @Fayola, According to NIH, "pain or disc...

I was recently diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I have been taking levothyroxine for almost two weeks. For the last four or five days I have had a weird feeling. It is hard to explain. I don't really feel dizzy but I get a strange feeling in my head. I guess you would describe it as a head rush. Has anyone else had this feeling and will it go away as my body adjusts to the levothyroxine? ## yes i would get that every morning after i took my pills and drank coffee. I think its inmortant to eat a little over an hour after to avoid the dizziness. It does go away though. ## Levothyroxine Info and Side effects Click Here ## my pharmactist changed my thyroid pills because my insurance doesn't cover my other ones.
