I stopped taking levothyroxine a few weeks ago and have started having red blood shot eyes that do not respond to eye drops of any kind. Allergy, dry eyes , etc. Can stopping levothyroxine cause red , watery eyes and if I restart taking it will the symptoms of the red eyes disappear? If so, how long will it take? ## Why did you stop taking it? Did your doctor instruct you to stop taking it? Levothyroxine is used to treat thyroid disorders, and if you have an issue with your thyroid that requires the taking of it, you are likely to require it for the rest of your life. Ref: Levothyroxine Information As to the red eyes, there is a chance it's from Thyroid Eye Disease, though it usually also involves ocular swelling, and generally accompanies Graves' Disease. Please identify small white round pill marked TC on one side and C on the other. Thank you ## Hello, I believe I have identified your pill as Levothyroxine sodium (100 mcg). From what I can gather, this specific pill is manufactured in the UK... Levothyroxine is typically used to treat hypothyroidism. It may also be used to treat goiter via its ability to lower thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), a hormone that is considered goiter-inducing. Adverse effects: Dosing must be carefully controlled to achieve TSH levels within the normal reference range. Long-term suppression of TSH values below normal values will frequently cause cardiac side-effects and contribute to decreases in bone mineral density (high TSH levels are also well known to contribute to osteoporosis). Patients prescribed to...

I have been taking 25mcg for about 6 weeks and feel much better, no weight loss, but no gain. I have developed acne on my chin and around the right side of my mouth...is this a side effect? Anyone else had this happen? ## ive been taking a 25mcg for a week now and am worried that i will develop acne. do many people get this ? ## I have been taking the same dosage as you for about 2 months and have had really bad breakouts EVERYWHERE that I didn't used to get. I now get them on my back, face, shoulders and neck. It's pretty gross and I've never had this problem before but I think it does have something to do with Levothyroxine. ## Hi, I am on thyroxine 4 weeks now and also have gotten acne on my chin and around the mouth. I've been taking Levothyroxine 25mg for almost four months, first three months was fine, now seem to be having dizzy spells alot. (every day) also feeling bloated. Has anyone experienced this after 3 months of taking them? Another thing a couple of months ago my period was 13 days late!! its always been irregular but not normally that late. We are trying for a baby so i'm wondering if it could be pregnancy symtoms also. ## Hi. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I just wanted to reply because you aren't alone! I started at 75mcg, then 88, then 100. I experienced a dizzy spell followed by tremors in both hands and legs and was rushed to the ER. They thought I was having a stroke. Gave me an MRI/MRA, heart ultrasound, EKG and found everything to be normal. They did find my th...

My wife is having hypothyroid symptoms again. I checked the brand and it is Lupin, which is an Indian brand. I have not had good luck with Indian brands for other things myself. I did find a review by someone saying they got switched to Lupin and their Hypothyroid symptoms came back. But 1 review does not make a case. It will be very helpful to people to get feedback on what brands people have had good or bad experiences with and what they went from and to. And what the symptoms were or what went away. So they can be aware when pharmacies switch brands and what to look for when searching for a better brand. ## In a lot of ways levothyroxine seems to be a special case with brands because it's not some sort of "brand x doesn't work" scenario, but rather it's that the d...

I have been taking Levothyroxine .88mg for the past two years. I just left town on a three week vacation and realized I left this prescription at home. Should I be concerned? ## If you suddenly stop taking Levothyroxine, your body can go through withdrawal. "Levothyroxine withdrawal may cause hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid. Hypothyroidism causes weight gain, fatigue, depression and sensitivity to cold because your body does not have enough thyroid hormone so your body processes slow down. Patients with thyroid cancer may suffer acute hypothyroidism because of levothyroxine withdrawal." Referenced from: livestrong.com/article/levothyroxine-withdrawal Since you've been taking this medication for so long, I would consider contacting your doctor about this if you have be...

Is the Amneal brand of Levothyroxine gluten free? I can't seem to find definitive wording that it is. ## Are you referring to the yellow pills inscribed JSP 516? If so, the inactive ingredients listed for Amneal Levothyroxine 100 mcg (NDC 69238-1834) are: - Silicon Dioxide - Lactose, Unspecified Form - Magnesium Stearate - Cellulose, Microcrystalline - Starch, Corn - Acacia - Sodium Starch Glycolate Type a Potato - D&C Yellow No. 10 - FD&C Yellow No. 6 - Aluminum Oxide Please correct me if I'm wrong, but those don't appear to be gluten-based ingredients. The question would then be whether there is a risk of cross-contamination on the equipment they use in manufacturing the pills. Ref: DailyMed ## Yes, that is the tablet I'm referring to. I had two radio-iodine treatments to kill my thyroid, which was extremely over active, approx. 6 yrs ago. I have been on Levthyroxine for about 5-1/2 yrs now and do not experience the things a lot of you are. No hair loss (I have very thick hair), no dizziness, panic attacks, etc. HOWEVER I am going through menopause now also (at 53) and can't lose weight, the insomnia is rather bad along with the night sweats. Could it be from menopause? I check my levels every 6 months with my Dr. as I recommend everyone to do. I'm going to ask him about Synthroid next time I'm in. He will not prescribe a higher dose than what I have now (112 mg) as he doesn't want the Levothyroxine to affect my joints/bones in the long run and my TSH levels he keeps on the higher side already. The wei...

I've been taking synthroid/levothyroxine for over 35 years. Since Medicare Part D I have changed pharmacy 3 times due to costs. Although my TSH reads normal I have more hypo symptoms. Most worrisome is a change in LDL. I always had perfect heart ratio. Nails and skin are very brittle/dry, some hair loss, breast enlargement with weight gain (walk 3 miles/day), and GERD. All related to age? These issues are increasing over time with keeping same dose of Levothyroxine. Any suggestions if I should attempt taking Synthroid and stay with one manufacturer? But then I would be paying out of pocket or get a more expensive RX plan? Or take my chances on new plan thyroid med called EUthyrox? Anyone's experience with this issue would be appreciated. ## Has your doctor done any testing, outs...

I was recently diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I have been taking levothyroxine for almost two weeks. For the last four or five days I have had a weird feeling. It is hard to explain. I don't really feel dizzy but I get a strange feeling in my head. I guess you would describe it as a head rush. Has anyone else had this feeling and will it go away as my body adjusts to the levothyroxine? ## yes i would get that every morning after i took my pills and drank coffee. I think its inmortant to eat a little over an hour after to avoid the dizziness. It does go away though. ## Levothyroxine Info and Side effects Click Here ## my pharmactist changed my thyroid pills because my insurance doesn't cover my other ones. I have been taking levothyroxin for 3 or 4 years. Recently, somehow I forgot to take my dose each morning. Completely forgot about it. As a result, about 6 weeks later, a phone call from my doctor after reading my lab results from blood test ended with advice to get to the emergency room ASAP and get admitted to the hospital. My blood saline level had fallen to a dangerous level and I was in danger of stroke, heart attack, death, or coma. I had been feeling very weak for some time and had no idea why. Even standing and walking around the house at home had become a major effort. So, I went to the hospital as advised. I ended up spending 3 days in the hospital, getting a saline IV the full time, as well as starting back on my levothyroxine regimen. My saline count had fallen to 118. 3 day...

Have pills in zip-lock bag, which I have no idea what they are. Small, round, white, with P on top of the scored line and 12 on the bottom. Can someone help? ## The pill should actually be more of a light greenish color than white. Hi, my100mg levothyroxine tablets are no longer working for me.I have been taking these for 2 years with a gradual spiralling weight gain. I am now tipping 12 stone instead of a normal 10 stones. I break out in hot sweats and have severe insomnia.. 6 days ago, I just collapsed and spent the day in bed instead. I have not taken levothyroxine since. I was recently diagnosed with Hypothyroidism after having my thyroid tested and my TSH was 5.9. I have been taking Levothyroxine since the end of June. The middle of July I started having non-stop ringing in my ears and still continues. I also have experienced severe hair loss and cannot put weight ON. I was diagnosed with hypothyroid about 7 yrs ago. I was taking 50 mcg of levothyroxine up until now. I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and my new doctor put me on 125 mcg. My doc says i have to be on a higher dose during pregnancy or the baby will be born with birth defects or have learning disabilities. The road has been really rocky. My moods have been up and down, i suffer from severe depression, mood swings, horrible anger, memory loss, bad anxiety attacks and fear of loosing myself. I litterally feel crazy. I asked my doctor and there is nothing she can do except put me on some antidepressant. I dont think i need that and i dont really like takin meds like that. I absolutely think the levothyroxine is making me worse. I feel suicidal and thats not something i want to feel esp. durin...

I wanted to know if anyone on Levothyroxine has this problem. I've been on 50 mcg of Levothyroxine for about two years (went off it for several months this past year but went back on it). Lately it feels like my heart is beating stronger and sometimes it beats somewhat faster. Taking a hot shower triggers rapid pounding heart beat. These symptoms come and go and seem to be helped if I drink a lot of water. It also seems to help if I get to bed at a decent hour and get enough sleep and eat the right foods and enough of them. The slightest amount of everyday stress can make my heart start beating in the way described. I've been sedentary quite a bit and getting exercise (Walking for 20 minutes) can be a challenge since I lack energy. Also I have been feeling anxiety and depression...

I'm changing from Armour Thyroid to generic Levothyroxine. Any feedback as to the quality of the manufacturer, Amneal? I'm a little dizzy, and my eyes hurt and are very dry. ## They are a reputable manufacturer, but Armour Thyroid and Levothyroxine are not exactly the same, though they do treat the same conditions, so it is normal that you may experience some side effects, when you first switch. Other side effects to Levothyroxine may include weight changes, nausea, and loss of facial hair. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? ## I changed from Amour Thyroid to Nature-Throid. Amour changed the inert ingredients and I became allergic to them. I am now on Nature-Throid and it is excellent. ## I have found that I can only take the Mylan brand for some reason. Pharmacy...
