Letrozole And Hot Flashes

Updated

I've been on Letrozole for over 6 months for metastatic breast cancer that spread to my bones. I had a complete hysterectomy in 1997 so I was surprised to learn my body fat still produces estrogen which fed my Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer. My second pill sent me into a horrible hot flash. I almost quit taking it but figured out by changing times I took it by advancing one hour each day that when I take it around 7p.m. I don't have hot flashes at night but do have one at 6pm right before time for another dose.

You can read more about what these types of medications do on MedlinePlus. Letrozole is a hormone based chemotherapy, and when something disrupts your natural hormones, hot flashes can occur, just like they can during natural perimenopause, or menopause.

As someone in perimenopause, I can empathize, hot flashes are very annoying, I can't count how many times I've woken up drenched in sweat. I've tried many natural remedies, but not had any luck with them, and I don't want to take hormones like my doctor suggested, so I am just trying to muddle through.

How are you doing, now?

I kept moving the time I took the letrozole and finally learned the hot flashes come right before time to take the next pill. I had been taking it in the mornings so I moved it along until now I set an alarm and take it at 7 sharp and have minimal hot flashes and am sleeping better but still need a/c on at night since I sleep in my lift recliner which is hot. Thanks for asking. My tumor marker is up this month so we shall see what that is about soon. Bless you.
