Ilvitrim contains the active ingredients Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim. It is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of infections.

Although the therapeutic regimen of patients with HIV infection, frequently includes trimethoprim + sulfamethoxazole", it is my understanding that the risk of serious side effects vs the potential benefits of the drug, can make it a difficult option for short and/or long term use.

Furthermore, I do wonder what benefits, if any, they might be receiving from an antibiotic, since antibiotics in and of themselves cannot be used to prevent or cure viral infections such as HIV.

You can learn more about this drug on the page for Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim Details

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

My husband have been HIV positive for a year since April last year, but my diagnostic results were negative and in January I did all the blood work and I was clean. Last month I went to the doctor cause I had back pain and I even thought was kidneys but they told me it was blood infection and Ilvitrim was given to me n doctor say this month it was better and it will go away. How true is that cause I'm worried cause me and him had been strictly on condoms.
