How Late Into Pregnancy Is It Safe To Stop Taking Suboxone? (Page 3)

I am almost 14 weeks pregnant. I want to stop taking my Suboxone completely, but have heard it can cause premature labor if stopped too far into pregnancy. My doctor also said that withdrawals can not cause miscarriage or hurt the unborn baby in any lasting ways. I have been taking 2mg of subutex (now Suboxone) for the past week. Am I okay to cease all Suboxone use, or should I wait another week or so?

Yeah exactly. I was actually on subutex first and my peri switched me to suboxone. Since they are steps much easier to go down to .25mg and the abuse factor. Yeah def ask your doctor about clonidine, i would be seriously hurting without it!

Now whenu say u were on 4-16 mg are u saying u were taking anywhere from a quarter to 2 pills a day. What about if u were only on 1/8th of a pill how would that effect the baby? Half of a qyarter..

1/8 of an 8mg pill would be 1mg. I've read on other forums that women at 2mg and lower had no issues with the baby withdrawing at birth. It still kinda worries me, tho... My doc switched me to the 2mg strips so I could manipulate them down lower. I just formed a written plan... Every 4 days I'm going to cut down 1/8 of a mg. Slow but steady. I should be off completely by June 13th! Wish me luck!!!

So I'm on 2mg of suboxone.. & I do get it from a dr. I'm waiting to see my ob-gyn this week... I believe I'm about 8to10 weeks pregnant right now.... I am PETRIFIED to tell the ob about the subs after reading all of this..... does it make a difference to the ob if I'm getting the subs prescribed?? Will they not get CPS involved then?? I'm sooooo confused... I'm not worried about going back to opiates if I stopped taking subs.... I am truelly over that stage of my life... but I do smoke cannabis.... & I'm afraid of what the ob will say & do with me having marijuana & suboxone in my system..... I'm a cigarette smoker too... but quit that cold turkey the day I found out I was pregnant.... I REALLY AM TRYING TO DO THE RIGHT THING..... I'm 34yrs old. this is my first pregnancy... & I believe it will b my last chance...... what should I tell my ob????? :'-(

There should be no issue with taking prescription Suboxone and your OB. They're not gonna take your baby away. It's all legal so it's fine. It's good you're starting low. If you need to stay on it, stay on it. Better than relapsing!

hi.. im 33 weeks pregnant.. my baby is healthy.. ni complicstions at all.. im takin suboxone 4mg a day.. but am currently lowering to half if that so 2mg a day. i want to quit. by another week.. do u think ill b fine? the baby will b fine? i jus hit my 3rd trim. but continueing takin it is not an option.. my doc dnt kno. an dont want cps involved.. an defenitly dnt want the baby to kum out positive for the sub. an if so an i quit now will it be out our systems by the day i have to have my c section? plz let me kno any info.. thnxx lots..

From what I've learned, you really don't want to be on it if you're getting a c-section. The Naloxone in the Suboxone can affect how the meds work to numb you up. You really, really shouldn't go into a c-section without the docs knowing you're on Suboxone!!! As to quitting, I was taking 1mg a day and dropped an 1/8 of a mg every 4 days until I got to 1/8 of a mg a day. Did that for a couple days but it wasn't really helping so I just stopped. It still sucked! It wasn't as bad as it could have been, but still not fun. Hot/cold, goose bumps, runny nose, headache, can not sleep at all!!!! When I try to sleep, my legs kick and my arms kick. Sleeping pills aren't helping. Day 3 of taking nothing, I took 1/8 of a mg before going to bed and that helped a little with the sleep. I don't really think it made the withdrawals worse, either. So you can try it that way... Once you get to about 1mg you should break it up into 2 or 3 times a day. The little bit just doesn't last all the way thru the day. So maybe try 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 12 hours later. Good luck!

You really need to let your doc know, you won't get in trouble. And it is really dangerous coming down that quickly to your baby. I'm almost 28 weeks and down to .75 mg! I have been coming off suboxone, shoot, for about three months i think. After 20 weeks coming down too quickly affects the baby and they withdraw right along with you, but they actually feel it more. And with a c section what hospitals use to numb you won't be affected by the subs, but there could be drug interactions you aren't aware of. Clonidine will help immensely with the withdraw, the kicks and restlessness, hot and cold all that. And is perfectly safe after the 1st trimester. You need to get honest with your ob. I know it's scary but you won't get in trouble and they will help you wean Off and give you meds that are safe to help with the symptoms. I can't wait to be completely off! My dose is also twice a day. I take .5 in the am and .25 in the pm. =) good luck, keep us posted!!

how long before my surgery should i stop takn soboxone..? im on 1-2 mg a day.. but wanna stop before surgery.. my ob also prescribed me tylenol wit codeine i wanna stop takin the subs an start on that till after the surgery.. so how soon before surgery should i stop the subs an take the tylenol????

with u jus stopn was everything ok wit the baby? im dwn to 1-2 mg a day i split it up an i wanna stop soon too.. my doc prescribed me tylenol wit codeine so i was guna stop the subs for 2-3 days then jus take the tylenol 3s till after surgery u yhink that would b ok? i have surgery in 3 weeks an want da subs out my system n the babies. did everything go good the way u jus did it?

I did it really, really slow. But yeah, the baby is fine and I'm fine! Totally off the Subs now. I still have about 10 weeks till the baby comes, tho but everything looks good so far. He's kicking like crazy! Very active. The codene will help you get over the hump and probably give the baby some relief since you're dropping from a bit higher than me. Good luck!!!

FYI it took about 2-3 weeks to feel ok again after stopping the Subs. So I think it takes about that long to get out of your system. I would try stopping ASAP!

I honestly would tell your OB..u don't want any complications or secrets if anything does come up..i started taking subs that weren't prescribed so i know where u r coming from. I now have a sub doctor and am 32 wks and feel so much better because they r aware and there are no secrets so they know what to look for if any concerns happened to come up..

I'm 18 weeks pregnant and have been taking between 2-4 mg of suboxone a day for about 2 years now. I have a healthy 10 month old little girl and went through the same anxiety I am going through with this baby. Yes I know I should have learned the first time but my husband and I did not intend to have another baby. During the previous pregnancy I took no more than 2 mgs a day and would skip a day every ao often, as i was always trying and wanting to quit. By the grave of god the baby was born healthy with no signs of withdrawals. I am still scared with this pregnancy that I may not be so lucky. This is my 3rd day without any but i think I'm about to cave because I'm feeling very sick and i can't lay in bed all day since i have a young child to care for. I know what I need to do and that is quit which I'm trying so hard. I'm so dissapointed and upset with myself at this point

I had my son on Sept 30th. He's healthy, no complications. I stopped taking Suboxone completely before the 3rd trimester started. That's what the doctors were really pushing for. Now i just need to get my fiance off. After 2.5 years, he still takes 8mg a day and doesn't have the self control to take less. Frustrating!

Congrats Debra on tour beautiful baby. It's amazing how quickly we will stop doing something harmful to protect our babies. Now let me first say that I think Suboxone is a great drug and even helps with pain some. Now with that said what people don't realize when they first start is that it is still addictive and will control your life. Examples is this are 1. I would jump out of bed everyday to make sure that filmtab got under my tongue. 2. If I went out if town even for a day trip and forgot my sub I would literally turn around and come back home.3 Constantly obsessing over if I can ever get off the stuff...etc etc. The good things with subs is they are a great alternative for especially opiads, the bad news is they make you feel normal so why get off them. Kind of a double edge sword. Anyway, he has to start a taper method. I would suggest a slow one maybe 3-4 months depending how high is dose is. I was on a low dose to start with so my taper only took 6 days with the first 2 days having no symptoms. Please don't listen to all the horror stories out there. Those people went cold turkey off of huge doses. Let me know if you want me to give you a taper schedule that will keep hum comfortable. God bless

Do not taking any meds that are not prescribed to u while pregnant bc it will be in the baby's cord blood and also they will call social services in. They give drug panels and anything u have took will be in there and the hospital will get u in trouble.

I'm a mom of two wonderful little boys.. I was on suboxone for a year.. This past October I found out I was pregnant with baby number three. I was imitadately terrified when I saw that I was pregnant while on this medication. I went through my first two pregnancys on nothing! Tylenol at the very end of both as I was nearing my due dates and became extremely uncomfortable . But that's it! Now this time I feel horrible! So I slowly went down in dose until I was cutting the films so they were no bigger then the tip of my pinky.. Making one film last almost a month! I am now 5 days with out anything and it wasn't as hard as I thought.. I'm entering into my fifth month of pregnancy so of course I'm monitoring baby kicks.. And to my surprise I'm still feeling them at lest 6-7 times a day.. I'm feeling like I have a stomach virus with bad bad daihrra.. And a little restlessness at night. However, for the first time in the last 18 weeks I'm hopeful!! I can feel the daihrra getting more managable. And really now all that's left is mental. But what keeps me from going back is the thought of my innocent baby going through withdraw because of me. That breaks my heart! So I'm sticking it out! I can do this! I had no idea how powerful this medication is. I was prescribed this medication orinally for back pain.. But it's dangerous! As moms we do what we have to do for our children but if it wasn't for this baby id still be taking that crap. I still have the urg to take them as I know it will take away my stomach discomfort and give me back my engergy. But 5 days in and not feeling nearly as bad as I thought I would feel.. Just waiting for this daihrra to go and I'll be a happy mama! Hang in there ladies! It will be ok! I hope this helped.
