Viractin Cold Sore Treatment was the BEST. I have suffered with coldsores for years. This was the best treatment I have come acrossed. A small amount of this product and no more coldsore. I haven't found an answer to my question yet. Is Viractin still available over counter or do I need a prescription for it?

I agree with everyone else. Viractin is the only thing that instantly stops the growing of a cold sore. I just used the last of my tube of about 6 or 7 years ago. Please, someone take the same ingredients and make it again.

Untrue about it not working. It's the best I've ever found. Cold sores and fever blisters disappear overnight. I've been looking everywhere, including with a prescription and can't find it anywhere. So disappointed. Best ever made. Your other recommendations are junk. They don't shorten the duration at all. Tried and failed.

I have always used Viractin and it cut the time in half...I tried Abreva a couple of times just to see and it would last double the time. I WANT VIRACTIN BACK!!! I would use it the second I felt one starting and it would stop the outbreak from happening or make it very mild

I have been using my last tube of Viractin gel so sparingly. I don't care what anyone says it worked the best in helping stop the pain. It had a numbing affect and healed the sores over before they ever really got started.

Has anyone tried Zilactin which is a Walgreen product? A further google of tetracaine which is the active ingredient in Viractin, lead me to Pontocaine. Has anyone tried that? I really appreciate the sharing of experiences.

Yes! Abreva does nothing for me. Viractin stops it in its tracks at the first tingle or itch where you can feel it coming on!

Viractin gel absolutly works. It stops the pain and gets rid of the cold sore. This little .25 oz tube distributed 1997 by JB williams Co.,Inc lasted me almost 20 years. I occasionally got painful cold sores and only a dab of it cut the time from 5 days to 2-3 days and stopped the pain during the process. Companies shouldn't discontinue a product in demand that works, just change how they market it. My tube just finished a year ago and I still keep the tube, taking it around looking for the product

I agree with you completely. As soon as I felt a cold sore coming on my lip, if I put vita tin on it, I never got a cold sore at all. Just a little sensitive spot maybe. It DID shorten the duration because it never formed. Best stuff ever.

Sorry to disagree but I used and still use sparingly since I can no longer get it. I get the start of a cold sore put viractin on and it stops it. They need to bring it back !!!!

For those of you who suffer cold sores, you might consider the vitamin Lysine. My daughter has had good luck with Lysine for years to keep the sores at bay. And more recently, my shingles are almost (I have 3 spots I'm dealing with) gone due to my taking Lysine. If I feel a breakout coming on, I take 500 mg. between meals 3 to 4 times a day for just a few days. Then as maintenance I take the Lysine twice a day. I've had no side effects, problems, and can't imagine why more people don't take Lysine for shingles, cold sores, etc.
My concern is big brother making it impossible to get-quinine remember?
