I am sorry, but Viractin has been discontinued by the manufacturer. It contained the active ingredient Tetracaine, which was a topical anesthetic, so it really did nothing to shorten the duration of a cold sore, though the moisturizing effects of it could help keep them from drying out and cracking and bleeding.

You may want to try a different over the counter product, such as Abreva, which contains Docosanol, it is an antiviral, which can shorten the duration of a cold sore, since they are caused by a virus.

Have you consulted your doctor, to see what they'd advise you to use as an alternative?

I have been using Viractin for this past week and I am now out. This topical gel is the only product that will let me sleep, and now I am unable to find this product in any store or pharmacy. The internet also states the produce is out of stock. Please help, this is the worst cold sore that I have ever had.

I have been to my Dr. She placed me on Valtrex and Keflex which has helped but it is still so very painful. I was told that Abreva only helps if it is applied before the sore erupts. Mine is raw and about the size of a dime.

Yeah, Abreva is about the only over the counter ointment that will do anything to help kill the virus of a cold sore. Even still, it didn't do that much for me.

I did find that taking Lysine tablets and a vitamin B12 supplement has prevented most of my cold sores from forming blisters.

This is from my own personal experience and a book I read called Cold Sore Free Forever.

Hope it helps you too

i just read your thread. And thanks alot Verwon for sharing such a useful cure and after that, i decided to share my experience with you, may be that can help you.I was plagued with cold sores for years and nothing I have tried or been prescribed works.
Then i tried JD harris brand, Virulite Cold Sore Machine. This was a last resort. Creams and patches weren't working so I thought light therapy was worth a try. It is excellent. The first time I used it, healing time was reduced by around 30%. The second and third times I used it when I felt a tingle and the sore barely came up. Now its been 5 months and although I've felt the odd tingle I haven't had to use it again as nothing happens, my mouth stays unblemished! I used to suffer cold sores about once every 2 months. They were horrible and really affected my self esteem and confidence. Now I don't even have to worry about them! To anyone who suffers from cold-sores I really cannot recommend light therapy enough!
The Virulite Cold Sore Machine healed up cold sores in half the time or better compared to the most effective creams.
