Female Looking To Talk To Male About Suboxone And Addiction Issues

Updated

Hi! I am on suboxone and I find it difficult to speak to just anyone about it. My family and friends don't know I'm on it. Reason being, I wish not to be judged. So, sometimes I feel all alone. I can relate better to guys than women. (And, NO, I'm not a guy!) LOL! Just want to talk about suboxone and relatated issues. Please, no wise crackers or jokesters.

Hello,
I'm a male in the same situation. My family is intolerant and narrow minded. I can't speak frankly to them about any of my problems. Since I was a kid, they treated me like an outcast. I became the family scapegoat. In elementary school, teachers sent them letters that my compositions indicated that I needed to see a psychiatrist. So my parents sent me to a psychologist but never considered that they also needed treatment.
So, it wasn't a surprise that I developed severe depression in my teenage years. I began using drugs to numb the pain. I felt worthless and isolated. It wasn't until some years had passed that I found a good therapist on my own. He was the most intuitive person I ever met. Before I finished half my history, he said, "You're the lynch pin. You're the one blamed for all your families' problems." But I immediately felt at ease when you told me that my history of drug abuse was an attempt at self-medication. But my whole life was turned upside down when my therapist suddenly died from a heart attack. He was only in his 40s but I found out that he had some inherited predisposition to heart disease.
I started developing severe back pain and was given opiate pain medication by my doctor. Fast forward several years. I found myself addicted to the pain medication that became increasingly less effective due to a tolerance I built up. So I turned to Suboxone to get off the pain medication. It worked well to get me off the pain pills. I was able to lower my Suboxone dosage significantly with little discomfort. But I became stuck at a certain dose. My treating psychiatrist suddenly moved several hundred miles away. While he has been renewing my prescriptions, he gives me no time to talk. I'm trying to gradually reduce the dose but find that my depression comes roaring back with each dose cut. I have no guidance or support from anyone who knows what I'm going through.
It would be great to communicate with someone like you. I can be very supportive and sympathetic. Human contact and support can work miracles. I have been through enough psychotherapy to understand that people have more in common than they realize.
