My husband was put on Eliquis after he was diagnosed as having a-fib. The DR stopped his blood pressure medication and 81mg aspirin. He went through cardio aversion to get his heart back in rhythm...as been in rhythm since Dec. However, he is suffering from the tiredness, shortness of breath, gout attacks, ankle swelling and abdominal swelling that I have been reading about. He also has a very productive cough that has been going on since late December. He has been on numerous antibiotics, cough syrups, allergy pills, and even something for reflux. After reading some of these posts about Eliquis, could it be responsible for his chronic coughing? ## Hello, Ann! How are you and your husband doing? Yes, according to FDA reports it has been known to cause coughing as a side effects. It may ...

I starts taken them but i still did not mensurate properly as i saw a little blood for just 2 days and it stops. what should i do. ## Hello, Yama! How are you doing? Did you get your period, yet? Usually, if this medication works, according to the FDA prescribing instructions, it should start within a few days of completing your course of them. They may cause side effects, such as nausea, headache, irritability, breakthrough bleeding and PMS like symptoms. How old are you? If you've still not had your period, you may need to take a longer course of it, or try something else. Have you returned to your doctor, yet? #...

I accidentally took my meds twice this morning. It was 5 mg eliquis, 125 mg digoxin and 40 mg sotalol. My question is should I skip meds tonight? ## The biggest concern here is actually the Eliquis, since it could cause an increased risk of bleeding/blood thinning. How are you doing? Did you experience any adverse side effects? Any time this happens you should go to your nearest ER or consult your nearest urgent care to be safe.

Even with good insurance, my out of pocket cost for a month of 5 mg Eliquis is $155. Does anyone know of any ways to assist with this cost? ## Call the pharmaceutical company and explain your situation I got many months of free meds this way also ask your doctor they have samples with a free 30-day Supply attached ## Canada Drugs is usually priced lower. Don't let Big Pharma scare you, they are tightly regulated. Check out their web site, you can price your drug on line. ## There is a place called Caring Collation that help people with meds if they can't pay for them and don't make a whole lot of money. Also Caring Voices. Look those up on the computer. ## Maybe your doctor can switch you to Xarelto, our CVS Caremark plan costs $115 for a 3 month supply, with a $24 a month pre...

I have woken in the morning with a black eye - this has happened twice within a month. I have been on Eliquis for 6 months. Could this be caused by Eliquis? ## Yes, the FDA does list odd and irregular bruising as being among the possible side effects. You may be jerking around, or moving, whilst asleep and causing yourself to experience a black eye. However, it is always a good idea to check with your doctor to be safe and make sure that there is nothing else going on that could be putting you in danger. Are you on any other medications?

I have been on Eliquis for DVT for 6 mo and still need to be on it. Recently I have had a cold and coughed so hard it hurt my abdomen. Noticed kind of a hard bulge on Thursday. This morning I woke up and my abdomen is bruised and my side (Which I sleep on) Also is bruised. It's painful to touch but has been for a week or two, but bruising is new. I see the doc on Monday (today is Saturday) is this an urgent care or emergency room type of symptom or can I wait til Monday? ## I would suggest seeing a doctor in urgent care, if you can. While easy bruising can be a typical side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA, the hard bulge is not normal and you should have that checked out to be sure. Has there been any change? Are you on any other medications?

How much melatonin can you safely take while on 5mg of Eliquis twice a day? ## is there a reaction if you are taking 5mg of eliquise and 10mg on melatonin ## According to The University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), there are no drug interactions listed between Eliquis and Melatonin. That said, it would probably be best to inform your prescribing doctor about anything/everything you intend to take alongside what they prescribe you; at least to be on the safe side. One thing is certain though and that is our bodies naturally produce Melatonin, so I don't see how a pharmaceutical would interact with something already naturally occurring within us... unless of course the drug itself is flawed, which many man made substances are... Hope this helps!

I have been taking Eliquis for 3 weeks and have had 3 gout flare-ups. I am not drinking beer and have had limited red meat and seafood (3 of the more popular triggers). Is there a connection between Eliquis and gout flare-ups? ## Hello, Todd! How are you doing? I am sorry about the problem you're having. Yes, gout is a common side effect of this medication, according to FDA reports, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. Are you on any other medications? ## I started taking Indomethacin for the gout flare-ups and it worked good. I am not on any other medications. My doctor believes the gout flare-ups were due to rapid weight loss (down 25 pounds in 1.5 months).

There's always a chance that any given medication will not work for someone, that's why there are usually several options to try in any given therapeutic category. Have you had any of the other side effects, such as nausea, headache, joint/muscle pain or easy bruising? Your doctor would be the best judge. ## I had been on Xarelto 20mg for almost a year when I was switched to Eliquis 5mg. Reason for meds was dvt i...

My wife has blood clots and we cant afford this medicine its really to high and I need some samples please please . ## Hello, Reggie! How is your wife doing? If you're low-income and uninsured, there is an assistance program that she can apply for, you can call them for an application and more information as 800-736-0003. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. In September 2015 and in June 2016 I developed a blot clot in a superficial vein in my right quadricep. Both resolved themselves. Because I was scheduled to fly my vascular surgeon sent me to a benign hematologist who proposed I take 2.5 mg of the drug two hours before a flight and a second dose twelve hours after the first. I followed the doctor's directions and was fine. I recently consulted once more with the doctor as I am scheduled to travel to Asia (a 15 hour flight) and will have several inter-city flights before returning back home. Since I will be away for two weeks and have three inter-city flights (one approximately every three days) the doctor suggested I take 2.5 mg twice a day for the duration of the trip. I'm a bit nervous about going on the drug for two weeks as ...

I've just started taking Eliquis, 5mg x 2 day for nonvalvular Afib. I'm experiencing dizziness & lightheadness. I have suffered from vertigo for years from heading loss & age (70 yrs old). I guess my question is will the dizziness go away as my body adjusts to this new medication? ## I had the same problem. Felt like I was going to pass out. Two different effects at the same time. I was on a heart monitor at the time. The drug caused tachycardia, it was recorded. The second effect is the lightheadedness. Felt like I had a couple shots of whiskey. I do not drink. Have been off Eliquis for two weeks. The tachycardia has gone away. The lightheadedness has reduced but is still present. Tough drug to live with. I am back on aspirin. 81 mg twice per week. ## Interestingly enou...

I started eliquis 5 days ago and feel dizzy every day- does it eventually go away? ## Hello, Mollie! How are you? Yes, it is usually a transient side effects that goes away with time, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you so much for your response, which I find encouraging - I will be so relieved when the dizziness goes away! ## I was placed on Apixaban for AFib after being on Apirin for 10 years. Since then I have suffered dizziness, headache and sickness. I consulted my Doctor and he suggested that I stop taking Apixaban and return to Asirin that had served me well for so long. I am awaiting the outcome. These tablets just didn't work for me.

I have been taking Eliquis for a year now. Major hair loss. I am 65. Female. You can see my scalp all over. I am so self conscious I am embarrassed to even go to church. I need to take some kind of blood thinner for irregular heartbeat. Can't tolerate aspirin. I wonder if lower dosage would make a difference. I take 5mg twice a day. ## Hello, Marion! How are you doing? I am so sorry about what you're experiencing, I have to say that I would be just as embarrassed. Perhaps you could wear a hat, or bonnet to church, for now? As to a remedy for the situation, the hair loss is usually reversible, once you stop taking the medication, according to the NIH, so you may want to speak to your doctor about trying a different blood thinner. Are you on any other medications? ## I just switch...

I am on Eliquis as a treatment for a DVT in my right leg I incurred 10 days ago. I took 2 pills twice a day as prescribed for 7 days and have taken 1 pill twice a day (5 mg) for 2 days but am feeling woozy and somewhat dizzy about 2 hours after taking the recommended dosage. Can I reduce the dosage to 1 5mg pill a day instead of 2 pills a day? The swelling and pain in my leg has decreased considerably. I'm wearing a leg calf stocking which helps. Mike B (age 67, 200 lbs) ## You should take the dosage that your doctor has instructed you to take, unless they advise otherwise. This medication can cause dizziness as a side effect, according to the FDA, you may also experience nausea, headache, and easy bruising. I was released from the hospital (due to DVT) after 2 days. I am now home for the past 3 days and I still have swelling from foot to knee. Do you think if I iced it for swelling would that help? It is very uncomfortable to walk around the house. ## After my last post I had a follow up with my pri. doctor who advised me to wear a compression stocking and continue with 2.5 Eliquis twice a day and take a Tylenol once a day. The swelling will take a while since I am 87 years old. My blood test reads normal. ## Hi Dusty, I'm glad your labs were normal and followed up with your pcp. These things take some time to achieve complete relief. Compression garments and elevation will assist you greatly. I know how uncomfortable it is to get around with swelling like that. Best wishes.

I'm on week 4 of Eliquis for DVT. Over the past 2 weeks I notice when I get up in the morning I am stiff in the joints, legs hurt. I get dizzy to where I see black. I have had 2 migraines and lost balance on numerous occasions. And I fall asleep at the drop of a hat. Is this related to Eliquis? ## Hello, Karen! How are you doing? Yes, the FDA does list those as being possible side effects of this medication and you are not the first person to post about experiencing them. You may also experience easy bruising and stomach pain. Given the loss of balance and severe dizziness, it would be best to speak to your doctor as you may need to try a different medication. Are you on any other medications?
