Diazepam And Codeine Drug Interactions

Hi everyone. I used to take Diazepam, at a 5mg dosage, on and off for anxiety over the last 20 years. I recently moved to a new area and started experiencing arthritis. Now, I take 30mg codeine for pain relief. My question is whether or not it would be safe for me to return to a low 5mg dosage of Diazepam as needed? I Googled it and the information I found suggested it could potentially cause me to stop breathing. Does anyone have any advice? I'm in desperate need of help. Thanks in advance.

Yes, both Diazepam, and Codeine can cause depression of the central nervous system as side effects, which may result in a lowered rate of breathing, lowered heart rate, dizziness, grogginess, and drowsiness. So, they should only be combined if you're doctor feels it is safe for you to take them both, and they are monitoring you regularly during treatment.

You should also be aware to watch for those types of symptoms, and seek medical attention if they become severe.

It's also advisable to start with the lowest possible doses, and gradually increase, if necessary, and your doctor approves.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I’ve started taking 5 mg once-a-day Valium and my anxiety and 50 in the lounge of clothing for my pain so far no side-effects whatsoever. What’s your qualification by the way? Thanks again
