I began taking Chantix in May of 2011, and quit smoking in June. My brother started saying that I was acting strange. I did not believe him at first, and even felt he was trying to put me down...I remember that.... But I finally did notice that I was not sleeping, and getting really wound up! I started forgetting things, and even forgot to eat, and take medicine. I quit taking the Chantix, and do not smoke, But I lost Two months of memory, and still have some time gaps, at night, to this day. I was removed from the County Fair in September, but have no idea why, and little memory of that evening, and became more isolated and depressed, to the point where I could not think clearly, and. ....well it was a nightmare. I am Now, in the middle of January beginning to retain more evening memor...

After taking Chantix only three days, I began developing numbness in my calf and foot and achiness in my hip. I immediately stopped taking Chantix, but eight months later, the pain is just starting to subside and the numbness is lessening, but still in my toes. If this is what happens after only three days of Chantix, I feel horrible for the people who took it for a longer period of time and are still in agony. I still smoke, but will try other cessation methods before ever using Chantix again. It is not worth the risk. ## Saw your post and I have PAD. That is a disease that affects you in your legs especially because you are a smoker. The symptoms are numbness, hip pain, trouble walking long distances without a rest, tingling, etc. Just check it out with your doctor. And finally about ...

How long does chantix stay in your system? Could it still be affecting me after 9 months? ## No! There are no medications that stay in your system for that long. The only way you would still be feeling effects was if it had caused some type of permanent body/organ damage, which I am sure would have been detected long ago. Chantix contains the active ingredient Varenicline,it is a stop smoking aid. Common side effects during use can include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and abnormal dreams. Did you have any other questions? ## You say that no medication can stay in your system that long. Hmmn, interesting concept. So no medicine/drug can stay in your system that long. So people who took a medicine/drug that affected their brain lets say back in the 60's or even possibly now of any sa...

I am a stay at home mom of a 3 year old, my husband is only home 1-2 days a week and I have heard this will be a mistake for me to take and that I will have horrible dreams, suicidal thoughts, ad much worst. Can someone tell me if me taking Chantix is a bad idea? I have not heard of many people who have not had bad results and hope this will have different answers. Thank you! ## I have been on chantix for a coupl of months now. I have been a smoker for twenty plus yrs. I had a few weird dreams. No nightmares. I think everyone is different. Starting my third week tomorrow on Chantix and having the same problem I had with it a couple of years ago. About 3-4 weeks in, I start developing sores in my mouth. Mostly tip of the tongue, inside the bottom lip. Called my Dr. last time and he told me to quit taking the Chantix. I was smoking again within days. I am doing so well on this that I hate to quit taking it, but really can't stand the pain from the sores. Any thoughts? Thanks ## You should really contact your doctor, because the sores may be the sign of a possible serious and dangerous reaction to the medication. If it isn't dangerous, they may be able to advise you of some way to treat them, or minimize the pain. Has anyone else experienced this? ## Its always funny when people complain that the drug is causing a sy...

I am on my third day of chantix. I am still smoking, my quit day is 4 days away. but I must say I am amazed so far. Yesterday cigarettes started tasting very dry and nasty, and I don't think about smoking as much as I used to. I drive for a living so I will sit in my truck and smoke like two packs a day easily. I have asthma and when I smoke I have to take at least to breathing treatments per day. I am excited and looking forward to a morning when I don't have to get up early for work so that I can take my treatment. so far my side effects are minor. A little headache and nausea for about and hour or two after taking the pill, and tingling numbness in my left arm when I wake up; but its totally worth it if there's a chance I will quit smoking next week. Good luck to everyone...

I have been a smoker for 54 years and have tried everything over the counter to stop smoking including acupuncture. Nothing worked for me. I realize you have to be committed to quit and I really was this time. My last cigarette was May 17th with Chantix. There have been no ill effects so far and I don't expect any. At times I still have cravings but I keep telling myself "you've come this far, don't go back now." I will be 72 next month and the best gift I can give myself as well as my family is to never smoke again!! ## Congratulations, Gram! That is so awesome!!! Seniors can be more sensitive to the side effects of medications and may experience them more intensely, as reported by the FDA, so if you do start to experience any adverse effects, including depression o...

Hello, I started chantix 16 days ago. im 30 and ive been a pretty heavy smoker for quite a few years. ive only decreased my smoking very little and im getting worried cause I honestly have all intentions on quitting. the only side effects I have are weird dreams, fatigue usually 15-20 mins after I take the med, it usually gives me a warm rush followed by the sleepyness and I get shakey and quite anxious. is there anyone who can reassure me to hang in there? lol I have 3 kids and they need me, especially smoke free. ## Are you also trying to stop smoking? The medication isn't going to do it all. Whatever your intentions are, it also requires real effort on your part. Have you talked to your doctor about it? ## Dont give up. I went way past my quit date. So what?!!! Each of us is diff...

I'm almost finished with my 3rd week of pills and still need a couple of cigs a day. They do not smell or taste bad to me at all. I've read where many people are totally free in just days....am I just a slow learner!! ## I am using Chantix to stop using smokeless tobacco (snuff). I just started week 4 and still dip the same. My cravings are the same. The first three weeks on Chantix I would take one pill when I woke up and one later in the evening. Because I work 3pm to 3am, the times would always vary. So now I decided to take one at noon, and one at midnight. I don't know if this will make a difference or not. I hope so. Anyone else have a severly delayed reaction to Chantix, or has anyone used it for snuff? ## On day 7 (my quit day) and I am still smoking. I am experienci...

I started taking Chantix on Dec. 02, 2007. So this is my second week on the Chantix. I haven't had real bad side effects. I have had an upset stomach and diarrhea, but like someone else said, I'm not sure it's related to the Chantix. I thought maybe I caught a flu bug. Anyhow, I wanted to ask you all if it's normal that I still have the craving for wanting a cigarrette. I thought for sure that it would've subsided somewhat, but it's still there. I noticed longer periods of time in between wanting one, but I still want one. :( If there is any advice anyone can offer, I would greatly appreciate it! ## I started taking this pill 2 weeks ago, about one week into it I started feeling side effects of nausiated stomach, to the point of not wanting to eat as I was concer...

I have been taking Chantix for 4 days in a row and I feel horrible!!! how soon will this be out of my system?? ## Hello, Jodi! How are you doing? If you only took it for 4 days, it shouldn't take long for the side effects to wear off, a few days at most. What types of side effects did you experience? The most common ones are nausea, insomnia and abnormal dreams. ## It takes about 2 weeks for your system to acclimate to chantix. If you don't feel your side effects subsiding by then and you want to stop using it. You need to wean yourself off over a 2 weeks period. Or you will experience more side effects. Chantix is Bupropion which is Wellbutrin. Just so you know. Good luck and I hope it works out for you.

These "how to quit smoking" findings are incredible! I really believe that these tips and devices can help smoking cessation. I particularly have found a brilliant way to stop smoking definitively. This is called Autogenic Training. It's not my invention. It is an Audio Program. It has lots of research to support the achievements of the method. In this method you will train yourselves to relax while reprogramming your brain in the way to stop smoking. It is kind of self anti smoking hypnosis. These techniques helped me to stop drinking alcohol. I really think that Autogenic Training will help me to quit smoking cigarettes in an enjoyable way. I am amazed by the results and really committed to quit cigarettes. I am not specialized in that subject but I think it works. Sorry f...

Chantix does work--But it would be nice if someone had told me the terrible side effects that can happen. Side effects that a person must live with for the rest of their lives. RLS is a terrible side effect that does NOT go away after you stop taking Chantix. It effects every moment of of your life waking and sleeping! I'm not saying no one should use Chantix but if I had known the serious side effects that can be life altering I don't think I would have taken that risk. It is my 3rd day with no sleep due to RLS. I lost my job of 20 years, because I can't function on 3-4 hours of sleep in 48 hours. I just think people need to know what they may be risking before they decide to start Chantix thats all. ## Be aware people - I am fairly young and all of a sudden I developed thi...

I took champix in jan 2008 and had my first seizure in march 2008, the first one of my life. No history of epilepsy in my family. I have had no brain injury, no illness that has coursed it. This tablet has ruined my life. I have fits about once a month in my sleep. Even with medication. I have the most dangerous kind. It has affected my memory, I struggle to spell and get words mixed up. ## Champix is another brand name for Chantix, most commonly used for smoking cessation. I've been taking chantix for a month. It does not cure addiction, but helps significantly to reduce cravings. The only side-effect that bothers me is dry eyes. I had mild problem with dry eyes, but I think now it's worse.
