Day 16 On Chantix, Only Small Decrease In Smoking :(

Updated

Hello, I started chantix 16 days ago. im 30 and ive been a pretty heavy smoker for quite a few years. ive only decreased my smoking very little and im getting worried cause I honestly have all intentions on quitting. the only side effects I have are weird dreams, fatigue usually 15-20 mins after I take the med, it usually gives me a warm rush followed by the sleepyness and I get shakey and quite anxious. is there anyone who can reassure me to hang in there? lol I have 3 kids and they need me, especially smoke free.

Are you also trying to stop smoking? The medication isn't going to do it all. Whatever your intentions are, it also requires real effort on your part.

Have you talked to your doctor about it?

Dont give up. I went way past my quit date. So what?!!! Each of us is different. a 10 year smoker is going to have it much easier than a 45 year smoker. (Like me). I can honestly say that it DOES work, just takes time differently for each of us. I have gone from smoking 2 packs a day to one in 7 days. Major huge pride i have!! It will work when it works, and not before. Yes also you have to try to do as much as you can to work with your triggers. i have a giant jar full of tootsie pops, cinamon sticks, bubble gum,, dont take them in my car. (that one is HARD!). Either way DO NOT GET DOWN ON YOURSELF IF YOU HIT YOUR QUIT DAY AND STILL SMOKE. they need to take that crap off of there. we are not robots. each of us is different. my doctor told me that most people dont fully stop until 2 weeks! Be kind to yourself. do NOT GIVE UP!!

I had to stop taking Chantix unfortunately, because i believe i DOES work but only for some people. It clearly states that if you have had any past issues with depression and/or anxiety in the past, it may increase those things. And it did, for me anyway. I dont want to discourage anyone from takiing it, im just saying, that even with the decreased pleasure of smoking, I just could not stand the nauseau, anxiety, and deep sadness. I wish it had worked, I KNOW It can for some of you and my prayers and hope for success are with you. As for me, I will have to search for another way. Give it your best shot, dont give up. I tried my best for 11 days, but each day brought more problems. Dont go by my experience. Pray, ask for strength, and hope for the best. I have read wonderful success stories on it. I hope that YOU are one of those stories.

You are truely awesome! Like the one you answered to, I also got disappointed after 7 days. I didn't know I had to work at it too. I thought Chantix did all the work. I've smoked for 54 years, so yeah, it's going to be hard but I'm trying like heck. Thanks!
