Butrans Vs Suboxone For Addiction

Updated

I recently have been taken off Suboxone because my addiction doctor is no longer taking my insurance. I've been on it for 8yrs so for him to just cut me and other patients off like that was wrong. I know I'm definitely going to have withdrawals soon because I've been on it for a long time. I've heard of another drug called Butrans just recently and was told that any doctor can prescribe it even if they don't have that special waiver that's needed in order to prescribe Suboxone. Can anyone tell me if that's true and if it is like Suboxone? I know it has to be prescribed for pain not addiction. Do insurance companies ask for anything special to be put on it like they do for Suboxone? I used to get blood work and u/a's monthly with counseling sessions.

The main problem is going to be that since you have already been in addiction treatment, most doctors are not going to want to prescribe it for you, they'll likely just refer you back to a doctor that treats with Suboxone.

As to what any given insurance company may cover, or what they may require to cover it, I can't say, because that can vary from company to company, and from policy to policy.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.

To answer your other question, any doctor can prescribe any of these medications for pain.

Is there anything else I can help with?

I too have been on Suboxone for 8 years and do not expect to ever come off of it. I asked my doctor and there are NO RULES that say a person must come off it. Most doctors make up these rules that you must wean off the Suboxone the moment you start taking it. NOT ME! DO NOT TOUCH MY SUBOXONE! It keeps me normal! It keeps me off heroin. It keeps me off alcohol! It is an anti-depressant! It keeps me level, as in "not psychotic" or "highly unstable." If anyone touches my Suboxone there will be HELL TO PAY because I am prepared to give them the battle of the century. As far as my doctor is concerned, I am taking Suboxone for multiple issues and they, therefore, CAN NOT take you off of it. Don't give in to these insurance companies. They have more money than the Vatican and that is one evil organization.
