Boston Area Pain Dr Pain Meds (Top voted first)

Updated

I have been on Oxycodone 15mg 6X per day for 9 yrs & MS Contin 30mg 2 X per day for maybe 4 yrs. I went for the appt as I do EVERY month & see all kinds of wrong stuff going on, mind my own Business. Ok so patients are coming out all Pissy, Angry & upset. Again I don't say anything but now it's my appt time, well it was scheduled for 9:00AM it was 11:45AM & Dr said he no longer is prescribing any more oxycodone, Percocet, Endocet & even Vicodan! I left with my MS Contin 30MG!
Now I'm afraid I will go into withdrawals & suffer a seizure.
He said next month he might give me Dilaudid or Fentynal Patch. I'm so confused.
Can anyone on this post/page HELP ME PLEASE?

Hi Karen,

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you are having with your doctor. Unfortunately, due to the amount of people who abuse narcotics- it makes it a major problem for those who use them responsibly. There's always the possible risk that certain ones may become unavailable at any given time. I can only guess that your doctor been warned (by whoever is above him) that if he continues to prescribe those types of narcotics he could lose his license. Maybe he's been prescribing more than he should and someone put a stop to it. Did you bother to ask him what's going on? It's his duty to inform you of any changes that could effect your health in a serious way. Also, have you considered asking him for alternatives that can keep you from having serious withdrawal symptoms? If anything, he should give you enough to taper off so that you aren't forced to go "cold turkey".

To be totally honest, It sounds like he is acting out of fear and isn't really in the position to help any patients who need pain meds, so I would consider going to another office in the mean time. I really wish I could be of more help, but this seems to be a nationwide issue that isn't going to get resolved overnight.

Does anyone else have any advice to offer?

I kind of have the opposite problem. My doctors keep wanting m e to take more oxycontin (ms contin) & I feel like my mind is turning to mush I am on 80 ms per dat anf 45 oxycodone per day. I wish I could help you in Boston, but since it sounds like a cronic pain ask them if they can refer you to pain management which is also called palliative care. Their job includes very hi pain prescriptions. Most will give you some methadone or clonadine if you have bad withdrawal symptoms. I hope that helps, I have s question for anyone that has been on oxy gor a long time. Did anyone else have short term memory loss?

Hi Wendy, thank You for responding. As Jenna said, btw Ty 2 Jenna he appears to be acting out of FEAR.
Wendy I am in a Pain Management situation. I've been going to this Dr since June 2010! I would much rather stay on my current meds: oxycodone 90 mg a day & Morphine Sulfate ER 30mg 2 X a day. So I guess I'm looking for either a NEW Pain Management Dr that will continue my therapy cuz it works OR take me off EVERYTHING & give me Suboxine. I need advice. The meds I'm on now are NOT WORKING.
THANK YOU BOTH for responding. I'm hoping someone knows a PM clinic in the Boston area.
Karen

So in February 26th of 2013 I fell 28 ft and broke my back and both my ankles. Social Security told me I still had to work, that i couldn't file for early disability after my workman's comp case ended because my hand still worked.

So I do construction and I have to work 6 to 7 days a week just to make it by. The doctors in Boston Massachusetts at Beth Israel did my surgeries and prescribe my meds workman's comp is willing to pay all of my bills per the judge's order (which includes my pain meds).

So my primary care physician decides she no longer is going to work at the greater Lawrence Family Health Center so I got a new Primary Care doctor from them. The first time I see them they kicked me off my pain meds in June 13 2021. Their reasoning for it is that I had methadone in my system on lab screening February 2nd 2020. A year-and-a-half later. So I don't know what to do. I've had to get pain meds elsewhere and I am worried that it might have Fentanyl and the doctors won't help me, nor will a rehab. I've called bunch. There's a few I called daily.

Re: Wendy (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

Yes I feel like my memory of certain conversations went different or never happened, but on the other part the pain specialist set my levels, at oxycodone 160mg/day with morphine 90mg/day, so I decided that was to much , along with my original pcp so I went to 120mg/day only and then this opioid epidemic hit and I got cut in half to 60mg/day instantly, then they changed my PC DOCTOR, who decided to cut my pain medication off, with nothing to help with withdrawals or the pain levels,

Re: Wendy (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

MS Contin is actually morphine, not oxycontin.
They’re two different medications.

Re: cc (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

I’m sorry Purdue really screwed us by convincing doctors that people don’t have withdrawals if they’re on less than 60 mg a day.
When I have had to quit pain meds I have always weaned myself down to half a 5mg once a day & I still have withdraws when I stop.
How are they all still using the OC sales pitch that has been shown to be fraud??

Re: Guspaul (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

If you can drive to Barrington NH ISM will probably hook you up. They tried to put me on Fentanyl patches because I have a MM card and they think that’s unsafe with 5 mg oxycodone but totally fine with fentanyl patches. Ridiculous honestly, but if you need meds...

Re: Guspaul (# 6) Expand Referenced Message

It is criminal in what they are doing. I wish all doctors who do this kind of thing would experience withdrawals. If they did they wouldn't be doing this. I hope you find a solution without going through WD. GOD bless you.
