Allergic Reaction To Lyrica (Top voted first)

Updated

I would like to know if there are any sulfa product in this medication? I am diabetic and have nerve damage in feet and Neurontin does not work for me.

There is a sulfate in the name brand of this, sodium lauryl sulfate, not sure if that counts for your allergy or what, as I am not familiar with it.

Here is a page that lists all the ingredients for the name brand:

Lyrica Ingredients

Since the inactives can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, you would need to check the ingredients for any of these that you are prescribed. By FDA regulations, the active ingredient, in this case Pregabalin, can differ from the name brand to the generic by as much as plus or minus 20%, otherwise the other 80% has to be identical in bioequivelence. There are not regulations for the inactive ingredients that they use for binders and fillers though, so you should always check any drug you are prescribed.

Further info for you, I did some research and did fine that the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate can cause problems and a reaction if you are allergic to sulfates:

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate:A detergent cleanser and emulsifier in creams and lotions that may cause allergic reactions in some people.

Sulfa and Sulfate are completely different and their allergies are not related.

Lots of people have Sulfa allergies. Sulfa is in a limited number of medications

Very very few people have Sulfate allergies. Sulfate is in lots of things, including albuteral inhalers for asthmatics, glucosame supplements, clondroitin, etc.

I am also allergic to sulfa products and was just placed on Lyrica for fibromyalagia. Since my doctor knows about my allergy, I assume there is no sulfa in this product.

Sulfa and Sulfate are completely different and their allergies are not related. That page linked as since been removed. I pasted a source link for this (currently being reviewed as all links are), but Lyrica does not cause Sulfa allergies. Sulfate allergies are extremely rare, and not related to any sulfa allergy. Sulfate is even in albuteral inhalers for asthmatics.

Savella, on the other hand, doesn't include sulfa but I have suspicious that they are related just based on personal experience. After I took my first Savella, I had an allergic reaction that made me sick for months. AFTER that I developed a (major) sulfa allergy and became allergic (minor) to a number of other things. That stuff did not agree with me at all! And I think I only tried it for 2 days before quitting. I can't say they are related, but OMG I will never touch savella again.
