2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.

941Btown and jvc: I think you both show a great deal of strength and neither of you should ever be looked down upon just because you are not elderly and need medication to control your pain is that you may live normal lives. Flatom really dug himself a hole, saying all if HIS employees were drug Abusers, didn't he?? I mean, he knew they were into illegal activity and didn't fire them. So HE'S a criminal too! I'm sure we should all take the word of someone who hires junkies that ruin it for real pain patients...

@lawlady Thank you, its nice to know there are some people out there who don't judge someone simply on age alone. I agree with you add far as far as flatoms hurting choices as I stated in a previous post. Hope you have a great day! :)

I ment to say: DO NOT GO TO DR. PRIEWE in Sarasota or Bradenton Florida. He hates veterans and he is a 30 year Naval officer. He told me that I was not in a real war and he was in a real war "Vietnam". This was after I told him I was wounded in Iraq and recieved Purple Heart from an IED that broke my neck, back and gave me a severe brain injury. Then he told me because I'm 100% disabled and retired from the military that I am AM AN ECONOMIC DRAIN TO SOCIETY. AND THAT I DESERVE BEING DISABLED BECAUSE I CHOSE TO ENLIST. So I am suing this dr under a malpractice and reported him to the VA, Wounded Warrior Project and the military. Please stay away from this guy. Don't give him the business. And he was busted by DEA because of abusing meds. I transferred to him from the base and he wants to take me off meds with no plan for fixing me, he said go get a job I'm not letting you sit at home and take pain meds. I told him I'm retired. Again he said I'm a drain on the economy. Good luck if you go here.

Have you guys considered trying an online pharmacy here in the U.S.? I personally haven't used this method for getting a prescription, but I know others successfully have, and there are a handful of sites out there that are safe and legal to order from amongst the swarm of bad ones.

To find out if an online pharmacy is licensed, is in good standing, and is located in the United States, contact NABP at: nabp.net/contact/

Legitimate online pharmacies that carry the VIPPS seal are listed at:
nabp.net/programs/accreditation/vipps/find-a-vipps-online-pharmacy/

For a list of boards of pharmacy, visit:
nabp.net/boards-of-pharmacy/

FDA: Buying Medicines and Medical Products Online
Quick Tips for Buying Online:
* Make sure the site requires a prescription and has a pharmacist available for questions.
* Buy only from state-licensed pharmacies. The National Association of Boards of Pharmacies has more information about licensing and its program to certify online pharmacies.
* Don't provide personal information such as credit card numbers unless you are sure the site will protect them.

Hope this information helps!

I am in Orlando and had some basic questions about my prescription. My doc is here but ive moved from time to time.Back and forth from Tampa to Orlando.Ive had pharmacys in tampa fill for me with my prescription from doc in Orlando and DL from Tampa, and had them say no as well and they said it was cause my docs from Orlando.Im living in orlando now and my docs here too,im using my DL from Tampa. What does the law say about using DL from Tampa to fill in Orlando?Would it be easier to fill if both my DL and doc are from Orlando or does it matter? Is it just the pharmacists perogative to fill if he wants or what?Im having a hard time filling and was curious if thats gonna affect it?

You guys are certainly not alone. I live in Tampa - the "pill mill" capital of the world and never ONCE had to wait longer than one day after my appointment to fill my 135 oxy 30mg. I only fill at Walgreens - I have a main store I fill at but when they are out, I have several back ups that usually will have it the same day - but if not, the following morning...always. WELL, It's Wednesday and my appointment was Monday. I took Monday off as usual for my appointment and what not - however, I had to call off Tuesday b/c I couldn't find a Walgreens that had stock ... and we all know the best chance you have of finding something during these times is very early in the morning. Couldn't call off today so now I'm sitting at work, sick and in pain....WAITING to take my lunch break...WAITING to get off work... just to keep searching and driving all over Tampa. It's disgusting. We supposedly have SUCH a problem w/ the amount of pills being in the city - yet I'm doing it the LEGAL and LEGIT way and cannot find anything unless I want to break the law and buy off the streets for 20+ a pc. I just don't understand, Florida has passed all these laws and set up these programs to eliminate doctor shoppers, out of staters, drug users, etc. etc. yet we STILL have a shortage? Prior to this, we had EVERYONE going to the doctor and filling their scripts no problem - the problem USED to be the visit to the doctor...having to wait for a long time, paying the visit, etc. but you'd fill your scripts w/ ease....so to me, it doesn't make sense why we have such a shortage to where not ONE Walgreens in the Tampa area has ANY oxycodone AT ALL. I searched Monday from 1pm to 10pm...I did a search in the morning and then later that night I went to all of the same places again to see if they got anything in... so many people going in and out doing the same thing I am. It's sad. No one should have to be doing this. TIP: Instead of asking your pharmacist "when will you get more in" - ask them "when was your LAST shipment and how often to receive your shipments" ... it will eliminate the problem of them acting like they have no clue. Chances are you will receive more helpful information asking the right questions.

i too like kays, they always seem too have it.but when i first started going there 3 yrs ago the 30s were 1dollar or so,but at the end it was 4dollars,they were very helpful so thats worth alot, didnt treat me like a drug addict like most rx's,i saw the dea is so proud that the sales of oxycodone is down like 80%,they want to take credit 4 winning the war, when all they did is make it unavailable too the rx's,so nobody can buy it and turn away people like myself who has had tramadic injurys, and cancer too have too move out of state just because i dont want too suffer thur what days i have left' but they think thats ok pain so unbearable i pass out.And now tn is on the band wagon,no,no,no,cant have that, but i can have a demerol pump that keeps me so doped i sit and drool, its inhuman to have too choose between my pain relife and my dignity

IF ANY PHARM. IS FILLING OXYCODONE OR GEN.-ROXYCODONE FOR MORE THAN $2.00 PER PILL, IT IS CALLED PRICE GOUGGING!!!!! SO AGAINST THE LAW, BUT ALLOT OF WHATS GOING ON IS, IT SEEMS TO BE THE NEW AMERICAN WAY! KILL EM, SCREW EM OR PUT EM IN PRISON......THE NEW AMERICA. SAD.MAD AND SOCIALLY SCABBED!!!!!! SIGN ALL PETITIONS THAT ARE OUT THERE, NOT JUST MINE, THERE ARE OTHERS THAT SAY ALLOT OF INTERESTING FACTS, FIND ONE, AND AT LEAST SING ONE PLEASE!

Many of you people are clueless and have totally lost touch with reality so stop blaming the pharmacist and stop posting that they are gouging!!!! The truth is this: for every bottle of oxycodone or dilaudid we buy the suppliers force us to buy 8 bottles of something else that will probably never sell or will sit on the shelf for years. So either the pharmacist will stop buying and be forced to tell you he's out or, in an effort to help you, he will order it but be forced to charge higher prices just to break even. If you want someone to blame then blame the DEA who come into our stores flashing their badges and going through your files with a fine toothed comb hoping they will find something wrong so they can shut you down. Secondly, blame the corporate America chains like Walgreens and cvs who are in bed with the DEA and the government and eager to put every mom and pop out of business so that they alone can rule the world. And finally, blame yourself. Many many many of you are the real cause because you abuse or are addicted or simply do not have the strength of character to admit you have a problem and seek detox treatment. If I had a nickel for every used syringe I find in the bathroom or for every person I watch go out to their car and immediately shoot up or snort I could retire. So the next time you are tempted to blast those of us who are trying to help you I suggest you sober up first, get your facts straight, and take a good long hard look in the mirror before you pass judgement. ANY QUESTIONS?

In addition, how are we to know the info you posted when the majority of pharmacists hand back the prescription and offer no explanation. Looking at it from your perspective, I'm sure you have to deal with many people day after day. The Dr's are at fault also in this state, writing way too many pain medication prescriptions. When I see a young person @ pain mgt getting these meds, it really makes me angry. I have kids in their 20's,; and with few exceptions, there's no reason they would need any pain meds. There are some of us that are good people, with legitimate pain, who don't abuse them either. I've learned something from you today, and my hope is for people to look at everything from all perspectives.

A suggestion for all, get off of oxycodone as soon as you can, its extremely addictive and will take over your life, (aka. driving all day to try and find it) Find a legit DR to get off the stuff with suboxone, its pretty tough without, and if you do have legitimate pain, please go to a legitimate DR.

Attention all roxy people....beginning now....you will only be getting your roxies through mail order. pharmacies once they sell what they have(which aint much,) they will not carry anymore and will have to get through mail order. fyi-dont say i cant find them in a month because im telling you why now. my pharmacists still carries them and told me no more dead is making everyone goto mail order for roxies. so make sure you have mail order from poharmacy. i think most do but some like bcbshield of florida-go blue plan doesnt carry mail order so just a little fyi

I believe you bc it's going to become a rarity to be able to fill any C2 narcotics. Idk why people are thinking this is going to get better or go away. Like I stated before, my PM dr said dea is on them continuously. Another facy I recently was educated about. The pharmacist has so much paperwork to fill out everytime he fills each prescription. No wonder they don't want to help. In addition to paperwork, they too are scrutinized to the letter from dea. They can only small percentage of narcotics in relation to all other meds. If you find a pharmacist who is willing to help, you better count your blessings. New world, new rules, all to make it next to impossible to help cpp. God bless

Dear Jem-unrelenting pain and other legitimate pain patients,
I am D Ratliff and I have been looking for and seriously need people with your anger and will to act, in the fight for our rights to pain care. I invite you to join me in fighting this "civil rights" and "inhumane activity" that the our govt is dishing out to ALL Americans with chronic pain. I invite anyone who is seriously willing to help me win our rights to pain treatment. Please.. all serious pain patients that are fed up, join me at ffpcani com. Only those seriously willing to fight this cause need to join. Proactive advocacy for this matter is the main reason to join. We are not a pain support site. We are an advocacy org, although we do support everyone in pain everyday with our cause. We need people with legitimate pain and those who are caregivers that are willing to take action, not just talk about it. I hope to meet many new members there soon on our newly added forum. I have been working my butt off for more than a year as painicinpain has stated here, but if more people don't get absolutely serious about winning this battle for keeping our rights to PM, they will be gone very soon then suffering or suicide will be the only options. FFPCAN-"Fight For Pain Care Action Network" is the only proactive pain org available in this country. There is no other like us. To those who are not aware- the FDA and Congress are discussing right now what doses and time limits of obtaining ANY pain medication will be allowed if any at all unless cancer involved. This is a very serious matter. Strength is in numbers folks. I can't do it alone. God Bless.

OK.. I don't understand something... it has been said that 1) Oxys will not longer be available in Fl in March... I just got a script for March and am having it filled at an new pharmacy, providing I give them all my scripts.
2) that mail order is available in Fl, yet there is a law that a PM doc can only write for a month at a time and must have an exam every month. Also, there are no mail order narcotics allowed in Fl.
Now what is the truth?

@the 40 year old pharmacist:
Yeah, we'll, sorry to be rude to YOU but you're not a doctor, period. It should not be an option for you to play god and cut off a patient who was legitimately prescribed pain meds by an actual doctor. And by the way, pain management clinics do not hand over drugs to everyone "who can pay their fees". Who do you think you are telling chronic severe pain patients "the free ride is over"?! These people take these drugs every day (because a doctor prescribed it to them- they disnt ASK for it!) Just another judgmental, self centered pharmacist that thinks they're smarter than the doctors prescribing the medication. This is why, quite frankly, pharmacies schools are considered subpar now, and pharmacists will soon be obsolete. Treating chronic pain sufferers like worthless drug addicts looking for a "free ride" WILL come back and bite you. By the way, I'm currently in medical school, and if I ever run into a pharmacist who profiles patients like you and blatantly disregards my orders to patients, that pharmacist would be getting an earful from me, along with his superiors. Doctors shouldn't have to put up with arrogant, self important pharmacists that think everyone should just "deal" with their pain like you. So even cancer patients don't get schedule 2 drugs huh? Lol, on which planet? I assure you, most do. And I also assure you that when you're elderly with spinal degeneration and a broken hip, you'll be sorry you treated upstanding citizens with severe pain like scum. Pathetic. Grow a brain and a soul.
