Stop Smoking Overview

Smoking cessation, usually called quitting smoking or stopping smoking, is the process of discontinuing tobacco smoking.[1] Tobacco smoke contains nicotine, which is addictive and can cause dependence.[2][3] As a result, nicotine withdrawal often makes the process of quitting difficult. In the U.S., about 70% of smokers would like to quit smoking, and 50% report having made an attempt to do so in the past year.[4] Smoking is the ...

L190 round white pill

I found a large round white tablet with L190 on one side and nothing on the other side. Please identify. ## I cannot find a listing for this in any of my resources, which is probably because most tablets marked with an L followed by additional numbers are over the counter products. Does anyone else know what this is? Is it from the U.S.? ## Sounds like a 4mg Nicotine Lozenge made by Equate - bought at Walmart. They are 5/8 in diameter and about 1/4 in height. Don't eat it! ## Why not? What does it do to your body? ## round white L190 NICOTINE LOZENGE [round white L190]

So far so good

I started taking Chantix last week. I have tried before over and over again to quit but to no prevail nothing seemed to work until now. From the moment I started taking Chantix it was almost like I didnt think about smoking for the 1st week I would have about 3 cig a day and going from a pack and half to two a day thats pretty darn good. I do have some side affects, I get naueous in the morning but I find if I drink a glass of water first it goes away quicker I also have weird dreams but not necessarially bad, and loss of appetite, I also seem to be calmer, which I think is a good thing. Everyone will react differently to every kind of medication, Im just happy that my side effects are not like some. ## I took it for 3 weeks. It targets the area where you get the pleasure of smoking fro...

Will expired Chantix still work?

My chantix prescription has expired, is it still effective? I would like to try to quit smoking again without the cost that's involved. If its still good? ## Unfortunately the sell by date with meds is important depending on how its stored after the expiration date its less effective but if stored under the correct temperatures it can last much longer. Humidity & heat tends to effect the meds. ## Tina, what's the expiration date listed on the prescription? Certain meds should not be taken past the expiration date but I don't know if Chantix is one of them. I can try to find more from the FDA on that, but first it would be helpful to know how long past the expiration date your meds are. ## Yep I have no problem taking expired meds as long as I know exactly where they'...

Chantix and Very High Blood Sugar

My husband started taking Chantix 3 weeks ago and is doing well with not smoking, however, he is a type 2 diabetic but he has also controlled it with diet and Metformin twice daily. Now since he has been on Chantix, his blood sugar level has been over 600. We went to the doctor yesterday and he told him that it was the Chantix and stop taking it. He is watching everything that he eats and drinks and this morning his blood sugar is still 440. The doctor is sending him to a Diabetic Control Center but it is going to be a week or so. Has everyone else had this problem? ## Chantix contains the active ingredient Varenicline and yes, there have been reports of it causing diabetes in some people, as well as it causing extremely high sugar levels in existing diabetics and there is a current inv...

Chantix and Insurance Coverage

I want to quit smoking but my insurance won't cover Chantix. Can anyone help? ## I don't think anyone's insurance covers it unfortunately. However ask your doctor if she has a coupon. My doctor gave me one for $30 off which made it like $120. Still expensive but hopefully worth it!! ## I've noticed some drug companies offer coupons also - maybe contact Pfizer directly. ## If your insurance company has a healthy living type program (Cigna does for ex) you can contact them & tell them that you want to use this to stop smoking. They sent me 2 months worth for free! They are happier to have people stop smoking. ## Chantix is manufactured by Pfizer, and they do offer some assistance programs for patients that need their name brand medications. You can find more informatio...

Has anyone needed a second dose of Chantix?

I’m done with my box of Chantix as of today & am still smoking. The desire is going away but I feel I need a second dose. Is it ok to get a second dose? ## Only your doctor can decide if it is safe for you to take for a longer period of time. Chantix may cause side effects, such as nausea, sleep walking, insomnia, depression, and aggression, in some people that take it. It also must be used with behavior modification, which includes you stopping on your quit date. The medication doesn't do it all by itself, you have to help it. Are you on any other medications? How much are you smoking? ## I’m smoking about a pack & a half. I can feel the effects of Chantix but am still smoking

Well, so far I love it...

I was a pack a day smoker (sometimes more) until last May of 2008. I decided to quit and I did by using Nicorette gum. Well, needless to say, I became addicted to the gum. That sort of defeats the purpose of quitting or atleast getting away from the nicotine addiction. About 5 months into my journey with the gum I began chipping or cheating with the smokes again. Finding little excuses to do it like us smokers do. Sure enough about 6 months of chipping at it lead me right back to a pack a day. I tolerated myself for a few weeks, but I am destined to quit, so I asked the doc for Chantix. I read up about it before I did, and I asked him his opinion and he said he recommends it. So I started the stuff Monday 3-3-09 and today is day 9 for me...I quit smoking by wednesday 3-5-09. I didn'...

Quit smoking after 40 years

I smoked on Chantix till the end of week 7 then during the start of week 8 I no longer had the desire to smoke. I know a lot of bad side effects have hit a lot of people but it worked for me. I thought I would never quit smoking. ## Congrats, Tom! I'm very glad that it worked for you and it's fantastic of you to post and share your positive experience with others. Most of the posts made online are only done when someone has had a problem with a medication, the positive experiences are rarely mentioned. How long were you a smoker and how long have you been smoke free, now? For anyone seeking information, Chantix is used to aid in smoking cessation, but yes some people do experience problematic side effects from it, such as nausea, weight changes, abdominal pain and severe constip...

do you have eat before taking chantix if no side effects

I. Have been taking chantix for 12 days, and I can not tell I'm taking anything and I have no change in my smoking, why is that. Also I can not eat breakfast but. I do eat dinner. I can not tell any difference if I take it without eating in the AM or when I do eat in the PM, I have not had any side effects so far. My question is it going to work for me? ## Chantix does allow for a flexible quit time, since quitting within a week does not work for everyone that tries it, some people need as long as 12 weeks. Have you tried to cut down on your smoking? Which plan are you on? Chantix side effects may include: nausea, aggression, weight changes, and sleepwalking. However, not everyone experiences side effects from medications.
