Any way to reverse long-term Chantix side effects?

My mother took Chantix several years ago in an effort to quit smoking. Well, she quit for a year. During that time, however, she became unbearably depressed. She has no history of depression. She consulted a doctor several times and tried 3 different prescriptions, 1 of them being Zoloft. She stopped because she said they made her feel like she was just in a constant haze. She hasn't been to a doctor or a psychologist since then. In the mean time, she started smoking again because she thought that it would make the depression go away. It didn't. Because of her experience with the 3 prescriptions, she is unwilling to go back to a doctor, and dismisses any notion of going to a psychologist. Our family has pleaded with her to keep trying, even if she has to tell whoever she sees th...

I started forgetting things, and even forgot to eat, and take medicine. I quit taking the Chantix, and do not smoke, But I lost Two months of memory, and still have some time gaps, at night, to this day. I was removed from the County Fair in September, but have no idea why, and little memory of that evening, and became more isolated and depressed, to the point where I could not think clearly, and. ....well it was a nightmare. Mouth Sores on Chantix

Starting my third week tomorrow on Chantix and having the same problem I had with it a couple of years ago. About 3-4 weeks in, I start developing sores in my mouth. Mostly tip of the tongue, inside the bottom lip. Called my Dr. last time and he told me to quit taking the Chantix. I was smoking again within days. I am doing so well on this that I hate to quit taking it, but really can't stand the pain from the sores. Any thoughts? Thanks ## You should really contact your doctor, because the sores may be the sign of a possible serious and dangerous reaction to the medication. If it isn't dangerous, they may be able to advise you of some way to treat them, or minimize the pain. Has anyone else experienced this? ## Its always funny when people complain that the drug is causing a sy...

chantix

I am on my third day of chantix. I am still smoking, my quit day is 4 days away. but I must say I am amazed so far. yesterday cigarettes started tasting very dry and nasty. and I don't think about smoking as .much a I used to. I drive for a living so I will sit in my truck and smoke like two packs a day easily. I have asthma and when I smoke I have to take at least to breathing treatments per day. I am excited and looking forward to a morning when I don't have to get up early for work so that I can take my treatment. so far my side effects are minor. a little headache and nausea for about and hour or two after taking pill, and tingling numbness in my left arm when I wake up. but its totally worth it if there's a chance I will quit smoking next week. good luck to everyone who...

Will expired Chantix still work?

My chantix prescription has expired, is it still effective? I would like to try to quit smoking again without the cost that's involved. If its still good? ## Unfortunately the sell by date with meds is important depending on how its stored after the expiration date its less effective but if stored under the correct temperatures it can last much longer. Humidity & heat tends to effect the meds. ## Tina, what's the expiration date listed on the prescription? Certain meds should not be taken past the expiration date but I don't know if Chantix is one of them. I can try to find more from the FDA on that, but first it would be helpful to know how long past the expiration date your meds are. ## Yep I have no problem taking expired meds as long as I know exactly where they'...

I stopped smoking with Chantix

I have been a smoker for 54 years and have tried everything over the counter to stop smoking including acupuncture. Nothing worked for me. I realize you have to be committed to quit and I really was this time. My last cigarette was May 17th with Chantix. There have been no ill effects so far and I don't expect any. At times I still have cravings but I keep telling myself "you've come this far, don't go back now." I will be 72 next month and the best gift I can give myself as well as my family is to never smoke again!! ## Congratulations, Gram! That is so awesome!!! Seniors can be more sensitive to the side effects of medications and may experience them more intensely, as reported by the FDA, so if you do start to experience any adverse effects, including depression o...
