There are several products available over the counter that can help alleviate the discomfort, including Carmex and Blistex. I'd not suggest using the Lidocaine, unless it is specifically approved to be used on the facial/oral area. Abreva is another over the counter product that can sometimes help shorten the duration of a cold sore. The NIH and FDA list cold compresses, or ice as possibly helping to relieve the discomfort, they also suggest using Orajel, Anbesol, Tylenol or Advil to help with the pain. What are some of the medications used during the preliminary stage prior to having the pain pump installed? I was told a series of injections are administered with different medications (and mg's) to see what works best for me. This requires a 3-4 day hospital stay. I would then be scheduled to have the pump installed permanently. Hey guys. I am new to the northern Iowa area. I have been dealing with chronic pain for 21 years. Up until 2 years ago, I had never done anything but take Nsaids for pain. But then I started taking vicodin, and then last year my pain doctor started prescribing oxycodone and a muscle relaxer. It has been the only thing that has helped me. I've tried injections, physical therapy, and acupuncture. Now that I have moved, I am having a terrible time finding a pain clinic that will provide my meds. Everyone I have seen in the northern iowa, Minnesota area has just been awful. Truly, awful. Does anyone know of a kind doctor or clinic that prescribes opioid medications? I've always heard the mayo clinic system was the best... however I can honestly say, they are the absolute worst :(

What is the best pain medication for C I D P (Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy)? I'm taking opana 40 mg twice a day it does not work very well for me I'm still in bad pain. I'm on lortab for extreme pain. There not working as long as they use to. I also want a pain medicine that will give me energy. I don't just want to lay around doing nothing. I've been prescribed a large dose of OxyContin, 360 mgs. per day, + 180 mgs. of Roxycodone per day. Both have been upped over three years for several problems related to my bones, and now cancer. I get terrified that I'll lose them and if I do, will the Drs. replace them? If not, what would be prescribed to get me through the withdrawals? I have both chronic and acute headaches. I've taken everything. The only relief I ever get is through narcotics. No one will prescribe them so I've spent the last 10 years in bed, in the dark. Have deteriorating disc at the 4/5 in lower back. It is going out towards my back which to me is more uncomfortable but doctor will not give me any thing for the pain. I have taken Vicodin, Tylenol, Ibuprofen and now I'm trying the new back advanced but can't take the other pills. I have tried to get disability but doctor says I need surgery.
