It's very sore. I juse broke out and have blisters. I'm not taking anything yet but do have some lidocaine ointment ## Hello, Nik! How are you doing? I am very sorry about the cold sores, I know that they can be very painful, as well as embarrassing. There are several products available over the counter that can help alleviate the discomfort, including Carmex and Blistex. I'd not suggest using the Lidocaine, unless it is specifically approved to be used on the facial/oral area. Abreva is another over the counter product that can sometimes help shorten the duration of a cold sore. The NIH and FDA list cold compresses, or ice as possibly helping to relieve the discomfort, they also suggest using Orajel, Anbesol, Tylenol or Advil to help with the pain. Of course, please follow ...

What are some of the medications used during the preliminary stage prior to having the pain pump installed? I was told a series of injections are administered with different medications (and mg's) to see what works best for me. This requires a 3-4 day hospital stay. I would then be scheduled to have the pump installed permanently. Thank you I'm currently prescribed 100mg MS Contin 4X daily 60mg oxycodone for BT pain. ## I'm not quite sure what all of the options are, there are quite a few different ones that can be used. One of the most common, however, is Dilaudid, which contains Hydromorphone. Learn more Dilaudid details here. It's a very potent narcotic opiate and is even used quite frequently in self-analgesia when someone is in the hospital and in pain. I had it in ...

Hey guys. I am new to the northern Iowa area. I have been dealing with chronic pain for 21 years. Up until 2 years ago, I had never done anything but take Nsaids for pain. But then I started taking vicodin, and then last year my pain doctor started prescribing oxycodone and a muscle relaxer. It has been the only thing that has helped me. I've tried injections, physical therapy, and acupuncture. Now that I have moved, I am having a terrible time finding a pain clinic that will provide my meds. Everyone I have seen in the northern iowa, Minnesota area has just been awful. Truly, awful. Does anyone know of a kind doctor or clinic that prescribes opioid medications? I've always heard the mayo clinic system was the best... however I can honestly say, they are the absolute worst :(

I'm about to have throat surgery and I'm allergic to Penicillin, Codeine and Percocet. What's the most effective pain med I can be prescribed? ## Penicillin is not a pain medication, it is an antibiotic. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. As to the pain medication allergies, there are others you can try, such as Morphine, Dilaudid, and Opana, your doctor should be able to help you decide which one is right for you. They carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## No thank you. I got home yesterday. They prescribed me a low dose of oxcodone. Along w some b...

I'm on lortab for extreme pain. There not working as long as they use to. I also want a pain medicine that will give me energy. I don't just want to lay around doing nothing. As I cannot do this with three kids. But I also don't want to take a pain medicine that will give me bad withdraws. I do want to try something new. I have been taking lortab 5/500 for about 5 years and I think It's about time I move up. So if anyone can tell me about a pain medicine that works good for pain and also gives you energy without bad withdraws I would thank you. ## I can't really tell you if another drug will help you or not; medications can affect everyone differently, some people get great results from taking, but there are others that it doesn't work for, the only way to find o...

I've been prescribed a large dose of OxyContin, 360 mgs. per day, + 180 mgs. of Roxycodone per day. Both have been upped over three years for several problems related to my bones, and now cancer. I get terrified that I'll lose them and if I do, will the Drs. replace them? If not, what would be prescribed to get me through the withdrawals? I have heard withdrawals are horrendous and can't imagine going through that on top of cancer and my other issues. I've asked and have been told to just NEVER lose or misplace them. The rules and regulations of the pain management clinic I go to state over and over that they do not replace lost or stolen medications and do not refill early. What does someone do if it does happen? I live in CT. ## If your meds are stolen call the cops an...

What are the best anti-inflammatories that work on intestinal pain? Please list the brand names of these medications and rate them according to their efficacy (effectiveness). ## Unfortunately the only way to find out what works best for you and what doesn't is through the process of trial and error and working with your doctor. There may be meds that are stronger or more effective than others in eliminating the pain, but if it causes too many side effects then what good will it do in the long run? Trial and error will help you narrow down your preferences. NSAID's (aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen, motrin, indomethacin), opiates/opioids, muscle relaxers, anxiety medication, natural alternatives (turmeric / kratom / CBD / THC), probiotics, digestive enzymes, etc, have al...

is there a topical pain medication for the knees that i can add to fentenyl patch ## Hello, Laura! How are you? Yes, there some available both via prescription and as over the counter products. However, you'll likely want to stay away from products such as Icy Hot, since they may raise your body temperature and cause problems with the patch. It would likely be best to check with your doctor to see what is safest for you to use. The FDA classifies Fentanyl as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Does 800mg ibuprofen help the two tablets of acetaminophen/codeine 30-300 work better to relieve pain? As well as hydrocodone 7.5-325? ## No, while Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen can augment how well an opiate works for some people, it is not going to make it equivalent to Hydrocodone. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. It would also be best not to take anything else, without your doctor's approval. Are they aware that you are taking two tablets?

Friend told me of a pill she heard of for arthritis with the #14 in the name, any ideas, thanks ## No, with a number in the name like that, I would have to assume that it is something that is available over the counter and I have not heard of anything. Just having the number 14 in the name isn't really a lot to go on. Does anyone else have any ideas? ## WHAT ARE THE BEST ANTI-INFLAMMATORIES FOR ARTHRITIS WITH LESS SIDE EFFECTS? ## Dear Sir/Mam, I am a 55 year old female who has had hypertension for a while now and has been on Vinco/D5 for sometime now. I've been having pains in my knee joint for some years now, which is now serious, cos I have only used Analgesics alone for the pain. Best Medication to Treat Pneumonia ## Antibiotics are most commonly used, since bacteria is what causes the initial infection in the lungs. However, there is no particular best one, your doctor will prescribe according to how severe it is as well as their experience on which has worked best for other people being treated for a similar condition. Have you seen a doctor for this? ## i have suffered in pneumonia from childhood still today now iam 22 year old ## I have been seeing doctors since March. How are you feeling? Sorry that you're so miserable, especially at such a young age. Do you currently have a PCP that you see regularly? If so, then having them refer you to a specialist will most likely be the best way to find the help you need. weakest to strongest pain medications ## LoLo Go to: Wikipedia and search Opioid Comparison ## Yes, there are really far too many for anyone to list them all and compare them for you, especially with your lack of specificity. If you restrict it to opiates, as capt ekim talked about searching for, then that narrows the list a bit, but in regards to general analgesics there are many on the market, both over the counter and prescription only medications. Additionally, there's no way to really know which will be stronger or weaker for any given person, since medications can affect everyone differently. For example, I get completely whacked out sick from some that work great for other people and their best choices don't do anything to help me with pain. Are there any other questions ...

I have both chronic and acute headaches. I've taken everything. The only relief I ever get is through narcotics. No one will prescribe them so I've spent the last 10 years in bed, in the dark. I would really like to die because the pain is so bad. When it gets bad I'll go to the ER but they won't even help me. I also have a problem with my body making kidney stones. Please help. ## Hello, Rocky! How are you? Due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, if you require narcotics on a long-term ongoing basis, you'll need to see a specialist. A PCP won't be able to prescribe them for you. Thus, you'll likely need to see a neurologist and a urologist. Do you currently have a PCP that could refer you to other doctors? I've been taking 10-325 hydrocodone/acetaminophen for 3yrs now, 3 times per day and I am still experiencing back pain! Can I ask my dr. for more pills per day? ## I think the best way to approach this is to just tell them that your pain is not under control, then let them make the decision from there, that way you avoid looking like a drug seeker. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as constipation, dry mouth, headache, dizziness, and drowsiness. They may even suggest you try a stronger medication. Are you on any other medications?
