hi, im a veteran who had a nerve transposition surgery at a VA hospital, and needless to say, it went horribly wrong.i've filed a claim (2 yrs ago), just signed up for medicaid here in nyc, and need some relief. VA was was giving me 4 5mg. percs per day, which just isnt enough. never mind the old fractures in lumbar 2-4 from service. in need of a doc.have the mri and all that. any help would be greatly appreciated. ## Thank you for your service and I am very sorry that you are suffering. I am not familiar with NYC, I haven't been there for a very, very long time, so I can't suggest a doctor, but what I can tell you is that to get the type of help you need, under the new laws, you'll have to see a pain management specialist. General practitioners and surgeons will only be...

I'm a vet and have been on opiates for 15yrs. The reg. meds I'm on have been working for 7 yrs with no changes (90 mg sr morphine + 8 of 5/325 oxys + 3 59mg tramadol + gabapentin). The Va took 90 mg, a whole midday dose and all my tramadol in 1 month. Oh ya, and my .05mg xanax too. Now they wanna use 7.5 mg ir morphine instead of all my percocet. Help me. We vets have to go through a pain clinic now at the Va. All it is, is a doctor taking everything from me. WHAT CAN I DO OR SAY? IM IN PAIN WITH NERVE PAIN. ## Hey, went through the same thing at the va. I went through the choice program and see a real pain management doctor in the civilian sector. Pain in the ass to get approved but it is possible. Write your congressman if you are not seeing progress! Trust me your congressman...

How can I find a VA doctor to prescribe oxycontin? I have chronic pain. This drug helps to relieve it, and it doesn't make me loopy. However, because there are those who abuse it, I have not been able to find a VA doctor who will prescribe it. ## I know a few veterans that go to the VA for all there primary care doctors but go to a pain management clinic because the VA is very strict on giving narcotics. They do have a pain management program at the VA but they will start you drugs like tramdol, baclofen and gabapentin and I doubt you will ever get oxycontin. You are probably better off finding a pm doc who is not affiliated with the VA. Good luck ## Have a legit pain issue and you wont have a problem. I get morphine and oxys from the va. ## @Rod Keen, Unfortunately, no one can real...

I am a Vietnam veteran with PTSD. I took this drug for several years and it was a big help. Now Doctors are saying that they will not prescribe this medication because it'a addictive. It is not addictive to me. I need more information on the availability of this medication. ## Did you mean Tranxene, which contains the active ingredient Clorazepate, which is used to treat anxiety? It is a Benzodiazepine derivative, so it can be habit forming and addictive. It is still available, but it is considered a controlled substance and doctors do have to be careful in the prescribing of such. You can read more about the medication here and see that its habit forming tendencies are clearly warned about: Are there any comments or questions?

Has the Veterans Affairs issued TCL 370 as Percocet? Or is this an OTC medication for headaches? ## This is an over the counter medication that is manufactured by Time-Cap Labs. They list it as containing 250mgs of Acetaminophen, 250mgs of Aspirin, and 65mgs of Caffeine, it is most commonly used to treat migraines, or stress headaches. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, insomnia, and nervousness. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have found the same exact medication, except it is white with red speckles? Are these the same?

I am disabled veteran with chronic pain, and after reading some of these, and knowing how terrible life was before I was prescribed both types, I just cannot believe, or understand "why" it is not treated with respect, and the beneficial results, it produces. I have been taking the same dosage except for a increase in the # of SR tablets per day, and some days, I still have pain, but not to the extent, I experienced for over 20 years trying to work and be a productive citizen. People, take as prescribed, or you do not need it. My life, is not pain free, but I am not in agony, anymore. I, have a profound respect for the medication, that changed my life. ## Hi PainMan, I think that these types of pain meds tend to carry a tarnished reputation simply because of the high amount of a...

Ketamine has it's place in veteran medicine and certain indications that are very specific ## Hello, Kim! How are you? Yes, Ketamine is a very powerful drug, which is why it isn't used very often, anymore. Outside of veterinary medicine, it's used to treat some people with severe mental health disorders that have been resistant to other treatments and therapies and has some anesthetic applications. It's main side effects are due to its sedative like effects and may include dizziness, drowsiness, sedation and loss of consciousness. Is there anything I can help with? ## Salutations, to Vernvon and happy holidays. Kim ## And Happy holidays to you! I'm a Disabled Army Combat Veteran and I've had, to no surprise, a slew of different types of hydocodone, but recently the pills I've been issued have red or blue spots in them. I was told by my doctor that the spotted pills absorb into your body faster and therefore begin working faster and last longer, is this fact or fiction? ## Fiction! They are all regular release tablets that will take 15 to 20 minutes to start working and the speckles in some of them make no difference to that. That's just something that the manufacturer decided to do to their tablets to set them apart from the others available on the market. Learn more Vicodin details here. Any such colors and speckles are entirely up to whit and whim and mean nothing whatsoever to the actual absorbency rate of t...

I found some in my Mom's old stuff too. She was not a veteran, but she did suffer severe cancer pain. So morphine makes sense. ## Hello, I'm so sorry to hear that about your mother, both my mother's parents (my grandparents) passed away from cancer so I can understand what you may be going through. I can't see that you mentioned the color or shape so I just searched for the set of numbers you listed- and I haven't found any morphine pills with that imprint. However, I have identified a white round pill with the imprint" 54 over 092 and a score on the back" as Prednisone (1 mg). The pill you have could be very similar... maybe just a different dosage? Prednisone is a synthetic corticosteroid drug that is particularly effective as an immunosuppressant, and affe...

I'm a military veteran in desperate need of a good pain management specialist. I received my injuries during 8 yrs of naval service. I started experiencing seveir back pain before separating but was unable to seek in depth medical treatment while still serving due to the nature of my job and requirements of duty while over seas. After separating it took two years of going to the VA before they we're able to find a fracture in my L1 vertebrae, 3 hurniated disk, and degenerative disk disease. I was placed on Norco 10. Even after the initial medication I was still experiencing seveir pain from what I later found out was sciatica from the damaged nerves in my lower back. I was then prescribed Gabapentin with little result. After a year and a half of gritting my teeth I informed my P...

I am a 100% disabled veteran and have been on pain management for about 13 years. I have been ADHD since childhood and none of the meds I am taking helps with the inability to function as a cognitive goal achieving, motivated person. I am habituated to my Narcs and am not affected by the typical side effects, nor do I experience euphoria, and I do use my meds as prescribed. My V.A. Doctor has referred me to mental health for evaluation and perhaps an ADDERALL prescription. I AM CONCERNED about the Adderall affecting the effectiveness of my Opiates to work as well as they still do for pain relief. Will the Narco...

I am a 90% disabled veteran after 25 years of military service and took a hit in Iraq during the first phase of the ground war. I hated being on 40mg x3 per day of oxyconton, (experienced extremely rapid episodes of pure rage). I talked to my VA doctor & pain mgmt. Doc, to walking it down. I have been able to get by on 15mg of Oxycodone, but since it really only takes the edge off between 4 - 6 hours which is dependent upon my level of activities, he bumped me up to x4 tabs per day. I just recently received my new scrpit, and the markings are different; which I believe to be individual manufacturer ID. The markings used to be round light green 48 l 11 V, and this most recent refill is also round light green, however it is marked 187. The crux of the matter is I now get headaches wit...

I recieved a prescription, and this is what I recieved in the mail from a veterans affairs pharmacy thru the mail. a white oblong pill with the letter TCL 347. I'm thinking this isn't what I am supposed to get. unless the pill identifier and other medication visual checkers aren't showing it. ## No, that's not Lortab, or the generic. The tablet with the TCL 347 marking contains 500mgs of Acetaminophen, 60mgs of Caffeine and 15mgs of Pyrilamine, this is actually a generic for Midol that's used to relieve the symptoms of PMS and menstruation. Appears as though it may have come from a veteranarian perscribed to dogs. The bottle says Cefla 100 on the side written in pen. ## Hi Kevin, I haven't been able to locate a pill that matches the description you've provided. However, based on my research Cefla may be a brand name for the medication Cefalexin. Since the bottle says Cefla 100, you may have Cefalexin (100 mg). Cefalexin is used to treat a number of infections including: otitis media, streptococcal pharyngitis, bone and joint infections, pneumonia, cellulitis, and urinary tract infections. It may be used to prevent bacterial endocarditis. Common adverse effects include: Gastrointestinal upset such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, and abdominal pain. Looking for a pain management doctor in the pittsburgh area. I m a combat veteran that has been in multiple IED explosions that messed up my back and neck and gives me constant headaches. Unfortunately the VA refuses to help me because I told them I had a problem with the vicodin and perks they gave me after two surgeries a few years ago, I took too many b/c they werent helping, but now i'm marked as an addict. I have been on 20-25mg methadone pills for two years now and it has done wonders for me, no need for anything else and can work while on it. Unfortunately hat source is gone now and I am in trouble, I would goto the clinic at VA if I had transportation every morning but that's impossible for me. My husband finally got into a pain management doctor. He is a veteran and is part of the medical VA mess. He was prescribed oxycodone by his new pain doctor and now I can not find a pharmacy in Orlando fl that will fill it. Its only 10mg. Anyone know of a location that will fill it? 10mg Oxycodone up to 30mg ## Do you mean to say that you can't find a pharmacy that will fill a 10mg oxycodone ? I take 30mg after 11 back operations and for the first time in 10 years the new pharmacist gave me the stink eye - like I wanted them early. I only wanted to check to make sure they had all 6 of my RX in stock like I've done for the last 2 years. I never run out but I guess it's just plain wrong to use pain meds made from opium.
