I extracted my wisdom (molar) teeth - right lower 2 weeks back. I am feeling a pain in the next adjacent teeth. Doctor prescribed root canal, but I am going on a tour from tomorrow for 2 weeks. Is there any intermediate solution to this? ## I have pain in my tooth in the lower portion, so i want to know if there are any remedies? ## I've been on amoxicillin for a week and Tylenol 3 and my tooth still hurts. Is it because I'm still drinking soda? Is that why I'm still in pain? ## I have taken cyclobenzaprine (10mg) for a severe toothache a couple times and by the next day I'm usually fine.

I do not have dental insurance and I am suffering from a toothache. From past experiences, it feels like an exposed nerve. Is there anything over the counter that you can recommend I take to help reduce any infection as well as reduce the pain? ## Hi, Spencer! Sorry about the toothache. No, there is nothing available over the counter that can help with the infection. That's going to require an antibiotic and those are only available by prescription, except for the ointments that can't be used in your mouth. For pain, there are several options, such as Orajel and Anbesol, but they are just topical anesthetics that won't last for long, plus you need to check with a doctor or dentist to make sure they are safe for you to use. I know it can be expensive, but you really need to s...

Will white g 13 oval pill help toothache ## No, this tablet contains 800mgs of Gabapentin, which is an anticonvulsant that can also help with certain types of nerve pain, but it is not a regular analgesic that will help with this type of acute pain. Learn more Gabapentin details here. This medication may also cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, weight changes and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with?

I went to a urgent care to get a prescription for penicillin for a tooth infection my left side of my face has swelled up so I went in he prescribed me amox-clav 875 until I can see my dentist but by my tooth being infected the dentist can’t pull it until the swelling goes down, but it’s been 3 days & the swelling is still here but the pain has went down some, last time this happened the doctor gave me amoxicillin and my swelling went down the next day, do I need a different penicillin pill I need help ## It's usually the active infection that prevents them from pulling it, not the swelling, since when the infection is active and in its prime, they can't numb it properly to pull it. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including n...

I have a toothache due to a bad root canal resulting in infection. They gave me antibiotics, 800mg of Ibprofen and 500mg of tylenol ( they only work when i combine them together and wear off in about 3 hours or less). My pain level is really high, and today I woke up with a bubble on each side of my tooth. Is this normal? ## The bubbles are probably due to an abscessed infection and if so, then you should contact the dentist, again. You might need a stronger antibiotic, or the teeth may need to be extracted. Are there any other questions? ## I recommend you go back to your dentist asap. You seem to have an infection some where. Drink plenty of fluids and take antibiotics to remove infection. toothachepainreliefsite.org

I have an abscess tooth will this medication work for this or is it used for a abscess tooth? Sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 tabs ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic, it's a generic for Bactrim, so it may help with the infection that causes an abscess, but that will only be a temporary fix. When you have an abscessed tooth, there has to be an underlying cause, such as a cavity and this will not fix that, so you will still need to see a dentist, or it will just eventually return. And since this a sulfa based antibiotic, which you can learn more Bactrim usage details on here, it may cause some side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. It can also cause an allergic reaction in some people, which may manifest as a fever, hives and d...

I,m already prescribed tramadol for pain is it helpful for toothache? ## Hi Dot, Based on my research, Tramadol can be a feasible treatment option for pain associated with toothaches. Although certain over-the-counter meds such as ibuprofen are usually considered first line treatment options, it seems to be quite common for dentists to prescribe Tramadol in and of itself, or in combination with something like ibuprofen for serious tooth pain. You may also want to talk with your doctor or dentist about using an antibiotic (e.g. clove essential oil) to help fight the infection as well. I hope this helps!

Hi I'm a young guy still in highschool I freak out all the time but anyways I worried about my tooth it got infected and said I needed a root canal and the tooth beside it is all right but the one beside it is throbbing and it hurts to push its my front tooth I don't want to lose it at a young age please help ## Hello, Jared! How are you? I'm sorry about your tooth ache! A root canal doesn't constitute losing the tooth. As detailed by the NIH, it involves drilling down into the tooth to remove the roots that have been damaged by the infection and then the tooth is usually capped. This eliminates the pain and prevents reinfection. The other tooth may not be infected itself, it could be painful due to the infection in the other one, but only your dentist can let you know f...

Will gabapentin work for a severe toothache? I have gabapentin and it says it's for nerve pain but it doesn't list tooth pain. I know I have an exposed nerve. The pain is excruciating. Please help. ## Take Ibuprofen 800 mg every 4 hours non stop for 24 hours.. it will eventually stop the pain from being as bad also gel caps are better ## I have been taking Gabapentin 300mg for a while and decided to stop because of the side effects. I was having difficulties with breathing and sleeping. My blood pressure has also been higher than normal. I guess that everyone is different and it affects everyone differently. My wife also takes 300mg, two tablets 3x daily and she's been having great results. Like I said, everything affects everyone differently and as long as you pay attention...

Is there any drug that relieves toothache pain? ## There are many possibilities, however, since this site is not medical professionals, we cannot possibly prescribe anything or suggest a treatment. Have you seen a dentist or do you have any appointment with one? Some people do get some relief with over the counter items such as Acetaminophen, Naproxen or Ibuprofen, however, being nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, you have to be cautious in your use of them, especially if you take prescription medications or have other health issues. ## I just want to know if meloxicam helps with toothache pain? I have a real bad toothache that feels like the pain went to my nerves. So can this medicine help with the pain? ## Due to massive tooth pain I took 2 tablets of Joflam 50mg (Diclofenac potassium...

I was PAINFULLY curious as to the effectiveness tramadol has for moderate/severe toothaches. Usually 800-1000 mg(4 or 5)of ibuprofen alleviate my toothaches, but my friend gave me 6 50mg. tramadols suggesting they might help. Please, anyone with info or reply will be greatly appreciated. thanks!!! ## For anyone looking for this information, Tramadol is a centrally acting analgesic, so it really has as good of a chance of helping with a toothache as any other pain reliever. The caveat, of course, is that this is a prescription medication, so it shouldn't be taken if your doctor hasn't prescribed it. Additionally, it is derived from an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation...

I have a bad toothache and it's making my head and ear hurt can I take pentrexyl ## Hello, Ray! How are you? I'm sorry about the tooth ache. Pentrexyl contains Ampicillin, which is an antibiotic, so it can be used to treat dental infections. The FDA classifies it as an antibiotic and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, you need to check with your dentist to make sure that its due to an infection, because taking it, if you don't have one could result in your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. And, if you do have a dental infection, an antibiotic will not resolve whatever underlying issue caused the infection, such as a deep dental cary. That will still need to be corrected, or the infe...

my two back molar teeth are hurting. No dental coverage have almost thirty pills of amox tr-k clv 825-125 mg will this help my tootache. Also took ibprofen still hurts. ## Hello, Bebe! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain. This is an antibiotic, so it will only help if there is an infection present and it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. And it will not negate the need to see a dentist, either. While it can remove an infection, it will not correct the underlying cause of an infection, so it will just keep recurring until the issue is corrected by your dentist. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have amox-clav 875 mg. Will it help with a toothache / infection? ## Amoxicillin with Clavulanic Acid is a generic for Augmentin, an antibiotic that is used to help with many types of infections. It is commonly used to treat these, however, there is no way to say for certain if it will help with yours. It really depends on what is causing the problem. Have you seen a dentist for this toothache? Side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, diarrhea and skin rash. You can read more here: ## I have a bladder infection, and I am wondering if Amox-Clav 875 MG will help get rid of it?? ## i just took an amoxicillin, described as a pink pill with the ww951 on the pill. and i was concerned if this will treat my infection. the filling on my tooth has cracked and my nerves are in pain, my face...

I HAVE BEEN TAKING ALL TYPES OF ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDS AND ORALGEL MAXIMUM STRENGTH SO WHAT ELSE CAN I TAKE? I'M DESPERATE. IT REALLY HURTS, TILL I GET THIS TOOTH PULL NEXT SATURDAY. ## Clove oils and bc powders are the best. You can buy them over the counter. I use a brand called goody's. I also suck on ice when it gets so bad nothing works, cause I go through this very often. All my teeth are bad, and damaged at the roots. ## You can try Krys's ideas, but otherwise there isn't a lot anyone can suggest, since we don't know the specifics of what NSAIDs you've been taking, and how much of them you've taken. Orajel is usually good, but it doesn't tend to last long, since your saliva tends to wash it away very quickly. The ice might not be a good idea for ev...

I have a painful toothache. The dentist office is closed on Sunday. I have 1 ciprofloxacin 500 mg and cephalexin 500 mg. I don't know if they are okay to take for my toothache. ## Those are both antibiotics, used to treat various types of infections, so they may help, but it will not be enough to completely get rid of the infection and they will not treat pain. It is very important that you see a dentist to get to the root of the problem and, if needed, get enough antibiotics to clear up an infection. Are there any other questions?

Can i still take clindamycin for my toothache? It expired 3 months ago. Is it safe? ## Hello, Tiffany! How are you? It is never a good idea to take an expired antibiotic. Since medications lose effectiveness over time, it may not completely eradicate the bacteria and could result in your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. It would be best to see your dentist for a new prescription, if an infection is present. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Can I take doxycycline 100mg for a toothache? I'm also taking Lisinopril 20 mg and Bupropion 75mg. ## John Docycline is not a pain reliever it wouldn't have any pain relieving properties.Ibuprophen is excellent for tooth pain it's an OTC med. ## Can I take the antibiotic for a bad tooth that is abscessed with the other two drugs? ## @John, If there's really a bacterial infection present, then killing the infection with an antibiotic makes sense and will probably help alleviate pain that the infection was causing. As to the efficacy of Doxycycline being used for this purpose, I do think there may be better options on the market. However I haven't come across any details suggesting not to take that particular drug combination of Lisinopril, Bupropion and Doxycycline. A...

Yes, this is an antibiotic that can be used to treat various types of infections, as deemed appropriate by your doctor or dentist.
