I have been diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis and I have a knot on my upper back and neck. I was wondering if this could cause painful tension headaches, neck pain, as well as facial flushing, it looks like I have been in a tanning bed. ## The other symptoms you've listed can be symptoms of it, but they should kind of come and go, especially when at rest, as reported by the NIH. However, the flushing is not a normal symptom. Are you on any medications?

Prior surgery in 2002 for spinal stenosis...bars and screws - sever stenosis above previous surgery ...Neurosurgeon prescribed Gabapentin 3 times a day for nerve block. ## Hello, Shirle! How are you? Gabapentin isn't actually a nerve block. The FDA actually classifies it as an anticonvulsant that can also help with certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders. It can alleviate nerve pain, due to the way it works on the receptors in your brain. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. It works well for some people, but not all, which is normal for all medications. Is there anything else I can help with?

If you are taking a fentanyl patch of 100 every 48 hours what is the next step that is necessary to help control the pain.b ## Hi, Bernie! How are you? On this, I really have to admit that I'm not sure. Fentanyl is the strongest opiate narcotic available to treat pain, so I'm not sure where else you could go. In some extreme cases, I do know that doctors have resorted to combining patches for someone that's grown tolerant to the highest dosage and is very tolerant to opiates in general, so that's possibly an option. Though this is usually reserved for those with intractable pain due to cancer or other severe, life threatening illnesses. In some cases, they can hit a point where comfort and quality of life outweigh the fear of prescribing too high of a dosage. Learn more ...

I have been reading some of the discussion threads and really would love your advice. So back in 2012 I slipped two discs with one that had a tear and I have spinal stenosis. Had wonderful docs that helped me get back to some since of normalcy. I had used Gabapentin for a period of time, then came off of it once I had an injection for my right leg nerve pain and numbness. Just a note, I have never been 100 percent probably not even 75 percent. There were times when the pain in my back was so bad, I would would just be angry. A second MRI was done last year and they told me I was not a candidate for surgery and gave me other suggestions like yoga, etc. That proved to be more harmful then good. Through it all I have tried to maintain some sort of life style and dealt with the pain with Ic...

Please if anyone knows of a doctor who would prescribe pain meds please let me know. Thank you so much. I'm so tired of hurting so bad all I do is sit and cry or stay in bed because its too difficult to get around. ## I suffer from spinal stenosis. I've dealt with this for many years, with no relief. I'm hoping one day to find a doctor who will help with pain meds. ## Hello, Blanche! How are you? If you require medications on a long-term ongoing basis to control chronic pain, due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, you'll need to see a pain management specialist. Do you currently have a PCP that you see regularly? If so, ha...

My mother has spinal stenosis which cases her great pain. She uses B transpatches 50. which provides no relief. What could be used as an alternative? She is 84. ## I have cervical spinal stenosis. I have used fentanyl patches and lollipops in the past to control my pain. It is very strong but can be given in very small doses and due to her age I doubt a pain specialist would give her any grief over it. Dilaudid also works well for me but I am a poor metaboliser so not many opiatess work for me. You might want to ask about either one of these pain meds. ## Yes, the Fentanyl patches are also what I would suggest asking her doctor about, it is a very strong narcotic, over 80 times stronger than the Morphine, so the patches come in either 0.25mcgs or 0.50mcgs. They are time released and eac...

spinal stenosis and pyriformus syndrome ## Lortab contains Acetaminophen and the narcotic Hydrocodone. However, there are no manufactured tablets on the market that have more than 10mgs of the Hydrocodone in them. If a doctor orders it, some pharmacies will specially compound capsules that contain more, but they are hard to find and very expensive. It can cause side effects such as: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. Read more on the medication here: Are you certain this is the correct medication you wanted to ask about? ## I thouht that the lortab had no aspirin and the lorset had the ``aspirin''. I have spinal stenosis, arthritis and 2 herniated discs for which I have had surgery. My current pain med doc won't go any higher then 50mgs of tramadol 3 times a day and that is it. Nothing else prescribed. He says nothing else will help and just go have surgery. I am not looking to take 10 mg of MS or anything. I just need something to help when the pain gets too bad several times a week. The tramadol does not work anymore. Does anyone know of a place in Hampton Roads VA that will help? ## I do not know of a place there. However, if you are willing to drive to Richmond which is seventy miles away, I know a doctor who will treat you with proper medication (better than tramadol and less than MS). ## @Bamagirl -- I have your health ailments and A LOT more. I have spinal STENOSIS and need Darvocet. I cannot take aspirin or Non Inflammatories. It contained the active ingredients Propoxyphene and Acetaminophen and the Propoxyphene was found to be cardiotoxic. Learn more: I'm very surprised that your doctor wasn't aware of this information. There are, however, other narcotic analgesics on the market that contain Acetaminophen, rather than NSAIDs, so you may want to discuss using on of them with your doctor. I have spinal stenosis, degenerating and bulging discs, I have been taking 2-5/325 percocets, 1- 500 naproxen and 1- 10 flexerel every 6 hrs for 3 months now, I know I'm addicted to them but this is the only thing that alleviates my pain, what are the other long term affects of this regiment ## Are you addicted too them, or dependent on them? There is a difference. Dependence is when you have to have them to function, due to a medical condition and your body has become used to having them. Addiction occurs when you abuse drugs, because you like the way they make you feel, so you keep taking more and more of them. And as to the possible long-term effects, most medications are processed through the liver, so there is some risk of developing liver damage. The Naproxen may also caused f...

I am suffering from spinal stenosis in the 3rd, 4th & 5th lumber vertebrae. When I take Aceclofenac tab 100 mg I feel quite comfortable. I take one tab only when lumber pain is unbearable because i am afraid of possible side effects. Please advise me if i can take it regularly, at least 1 daily? How long one can take it and at what dose? ## What has your doctor advised? The dosage depends on the severity of the condition being treated, as does the length of time you should take it. I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis nine years ago. I've had a lamectomy, a spinal fusion, and numerous outpatient surgeries since then without success. I've been prescribed methadone HCL (30 mg every 12 hours); Valium (5 mg every 8 hours); Butalbital ((APAP-CAFF 50-300-40 every 8 hours for headaches complicated by these opiate combinations); and dilaudid (16 mg every 8 hours) since then. It is important to know that I have a high level of tolerance to these opiates. In fact, even with these prescriptions my pain score is consistently 7-8/10. As of late, surprisingly, within 15-20 minutes of taking dilaudid I experience strong heart palpitations, which go away within 20-30 minutes of deep breathing and lying down with my legs elevated. However, I'm now really worried and af...

Hi there, I have spinal stenosis, 2 herniated discs, and five tears in different discs, don't want surgery, looking for a doctor that will prescribe Percocet in the orange county, CA area ## Hi, Nancy! How are you? The main issue here is trying to find a doctor that will prescribe any specific medication. Technically, any doctor with a medical license can legally prescribe any medication, but when you are trying to look for a specific one, they usually view that as drug seeking behavior and won't even let you get in the door for an appointment. Learn more Percocet details here. If you require such a drug for long-term treatment of chronic pain, under the new regulations, you'll have to see a pain management specialist.
