My father has acidity problems. There is pain in the upper part of the stomach, mostly after dinner/evening. The doctor (Gastroentrologist) said that it is GERD and prescribed the following medicine, Capsule P-ZOLE-L, Tablet BIZLO-OD, Syrup LACTIHEP, Syrup CRISLIN and tablet ETICLID. He also advised for UGIE (endoscopy). He developed the gas and acidity condition after the treatment for diabetes and also has inguinal hernia. I am bit confused as the medicines keep changing when we see another doctor and the problem still remains. Kindly advice whether the prescribed medicines are safe and are for the treatment of the problem mentioned. It is problem because of hernia? can hernia operation be done in this condition? Kindly reply and advice. Thank you.

what are the side effects of taking Dida? ## Dida is an over the counter herbal supplement that is claimed, but not proven, to help with gastrointestinal problems. It contains oregano, olive leaves, potmarigold, thyme, cardamom, cloves, garlic, cinammon, fennel oil and peppermint oil. It should be used with caution, because some of the herbs it contains, such as the peppermint oil, oregano and cloves can actually further irritate some gastrointestinal problems, such as gastritis and gas. Side effects are not studied for these types of products, as is done for prescription medications. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am a chronic patient of diahhrea. Generally whenever needed, I take some antibiotic and get better. But this time right now, my doctor prescribed Metrogyl 500 for ten days. However, after taking metrogyl for one day, my stools became looser. I am at a lose to know what I should do now. ## Most antibiotics can cause diarrhea as a side effect, according to FDA reports. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Has your doctor given you any reason why you get diarrhea so often? Is it a medical condition? Some other medication you care taking? Or something in your diet? How long has this been going on? Has you consulted a gastroenterologist?

I will be traveling to Mexico very soon. And besides the logical precautions like not drinking water or drinks with ice or raw foods and vegetables, is there any medication I can take beforehand to prevent the horrible Moctezuma's revenge...someone told me to take Pentrexyl..is this right ? and what dosage and how often... ## Pentrexyl is a brand of ampicillin available in some countries like Norway and Mexico but not available in the United States. The usual adult dosage for this medication is 250 to 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 5-10 days, depending on the nature and severity of the infection. I wouldn't recommend taking it until you have an infection though, otherwise treatment may prove to be useless, due to antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. I hope this info helps!

can Twynsta 80/10 be cut in half and taken as Twynsta 40/5 ? ## From the information I've found, it seems that the tablets should not be cut, the advisory information says they should be swallowed whole. Usually this means that the medications is either time released, or there is some special coating to help prevent damage that it may due to the linings of your gastro-intestinal system. What is all the hype about taking carisprodol when you have had 2 neck, 4 back surgeries and osteoarthritis so bad that my fingers on my right hand can't even lift a cup or glass??? I am 60 years old. I do take ms contin, and Xanax for pain and anxiety. I have been on these meds for years. I can't hardly get out of bed in the morning if I am not up all night with pain and gastro problems. I have Lupus and severe fibromyalgia. I had my left hip replaced and after that cervical fusion and lower lumbar fusion. The doctors went to town on me! I hurt 90 percent of the time. I have taken more soma than 20 qty. for 30 days (90qty for 30 days) in the past ten years. I went off the soma for 1 year in exchange for 1 more Xanax a day. Although my muscular problems still existed. Now my Dr ...

I was prescribed Gastrocrom and Domperidome, can they be taken together? If so, is there any side effects? ## Hi Julie, The only drug interactions I found listed under Domperidone are if you were to take it with certain antibiotics or antifungal medications that have been known to increase the plasma concentration of Domperidone as well as it's potential for causing side effects. Nothing though is listed between Gastrocrom and Domperidone, so I would still encourage you to take that up with your doctor as a precautionary measure for more specific details. However even if there aren't any interactions, each medication's individual side effects are still at play and would also be something to watch out for; not to be mistaken for possible drug interactions or vise versa. My son, has gastroparesis, and has been sooo ill, in the hospital ER , abt 14 times, since Jan.2012, losing abt 60 lbs. It has been a revolving door. It's 2 wks home, then 2 wks. hospital stay. He was told by a dr. he should be on Domperidone, instead of the Prednisone ( steroid) he is on now., but ( according to the dr.) HOW EXPENSIVE Domperidone is. My son was quoted $ 525.00 for a rx., a month, by a pharmacy in TX. I found out that Canadian pharmacies will sell it much, much cheaper, I guess a generic name,Motillium. So, I was wondering if anyone has used this drug, and what the results have been. ## You can learn more Domperidone details here. It hasn't been approved by the U.S. FDA, that's why it's so expensive to obtain a prescription here. It basically has to be im...

I am in Canada can you tell me the medicine to start the loose motion. Because my stomach is not clear ## I want a tablet to get loose motion because I didnt go for the motion in the past 2 days.. So please suggest me a tablet where I cam get it from wallmart to go for a free motion to clean my stomach ## My motion is not coming properly, will u plz suggest me the medicine... ## Prebiotic fiber, probiotics, digestive enzymes and adequate water may be beneficial tools for those who suffer from indigestion. For myself, I also feel that eating dark leafy greens (salads), soups, fruit and other light meals over a period of time can assist with gastrointestinal motility. Often times (at least in my case), it's simply a lack of enzymes or water that lead to constipation and bloatedness. Ha...

i am suffering from heart burn/ Gastro Esophagal Reflux. its so difficult to sleep at night, its as if i have a solid substance down my throat. my doctor suggested i use altosec. What mostly causes the heart burn/gastro esophagal reflux. ## If your doc was smart he would have you go see a gastrointestinal doc, cause my mom's boyfriend had that prob. and he had esophegus cancer. ## Heartburn and GERD are usually caused by excess stomach acid. It could be due to your stomach just naturally over producing acid, or the excessive product could be caused by certain foods, beverages or other medications, such as NSAIDs. Altosec contains the active ingredient Omeprazole, it is a proton pump inhibitor that can reduce the amount of acid produced by your stomach. The best way to use it is to t...

I have been on Multaq for 5 months. Besides the extreme hair loss, I was just diagnosed with gastroparisis. Since the stomach has an electrical system like the heart, I am wondering if the Multaq is slowing down the stomach causing the gastroparisis. Has anyone else had this problem with Multaq ## Hello, Sandy! How are you? No, they really aren't that similar and the FDA doesn't list gastroparesis in the detailed side effect profile. They typically include symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, headache, cough and heart burn. Are you on any other medications? Have you changed your diet, recently?

I'm going to be going back on Topamax after coming off it due to gastrointestinal issues. It is the only thing that keeps me from getting migraines and there is no pain involved with the stomach problems. However, the side effect is unpleasant. Basically I have liquid bowels when I use it. Even after taking it over 6 months. Will that go away or is there a way I can counteract that? ## What have you already tried to remedy that side effect? What does your normal diet consist of? The FDA warns that you should not follow any high fat, low carb diet while taking this medication. Its other typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, nervousness, headaches, and unusual bruising. Ref: Topamax Information Does you doctor have any ideas to help with prevention of the diarrhea?
