How are you? I am sorry that you're so sick. If you have a fishy odor coming from your genital area, then that likely denotes that you also have a vaginal bacterial infection. Thus, you might be treating one, while the other is still raging gout of control, because you might not be taking the right medication for it. Have you consulted your gynecologist? The fact that things are erupting after a bath also points to that possibility. Have you had any discharge? Do...

It is Saturday night and My female K-9 has uncontrolled urination and last time this occurred about a year ago the Vet prescribed Cephalexin 500mg. I have Rx of AMOX-CLAV875 125MG, can I use this in place of the Cephalexin until I can get her to the Vet on Monday? ## Hi Zoie, Sorry to hear about the urinary incontinence. I hope your canine is doing better today. According to NIH, there was a time when amoxicillin was once routinely used to treat UTI's and bladder infections. However, due to strain resistance and higher recurrence rates than other available treatment options, amoxicillin is no longer the recommended first line treatment. On the other hand further reports suggest that it may still be used in cases where there is documented urine culture susceptibility. Source: ncbi.nl...

I have 3 tablets of Sulfa/Meth TMP DS. I think these were prescribed to me for a bladder infection. I have symptoms of it again. Is this medication for bladder infections? ## This is a generic version of the antibiotic Bactrim, which is used to treat various types of infections. However, the problem is that 3 tablets is not enough to finish a full course of treatment and fully eradicate an infection. Trying to use them creates the risk of someone developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. You can learn more Bactrim details here. Thus, if anyone reading this thinks they may have an infection, the best and safest thing to do is to see your doctor, so if they confirm the presence of an infection, you can get a new antibiotic prescription to finish a full course of treatment. How are you? I am so sorry about the problem that you're having. Bacterial vaginosis can be difficult to clear up, it does have a nasty habit of returning and the bacteria may have just spread to the bladder, as well. And yes, multiple antibiotics like this are often prescribed, in such cases where an infection is treatment resistant and spreading. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, vaginal irritation and discharge. Is there anything else I can help with?

Got a red and white capsule from Mexico that was to cure bladder infections. What are they?? ## Hi Judy, Did you happen to receive any product packaging along with your prescription that suggests it's an antibiotic or are you just assuming it is? Reason I ask is because without any markings or imprints it could literally be anyone's best guess from pharmaceuticals to dietary supplements, illicit drugs and so forth... The description is so broad that one could simply buy a red and white capsule, fill it with virtually any substance and call it whatever they want... If I were you I'd consider the idea of having its contents analyzed by a lab, just to be on the safe side. Did a doctor prescribe this for you to pick up at a licensed pharmacy or do they handle things differently ...

I was on narcotics for 1 year due to a disk problem. I stopped for 5 weeks and after 2nd week I felt severe pain on my hip and lower sides, so back I went to my Dr. She assumed I had a urine infection and prescribed me an antibiotic. The first week of treatment didn't work so I went to the hospital for blood work, U/A's and a CAT scan that came back with a bladder infection. They then gave me another round of antibiotics (sulfamethoxazole) and I'm on my third day still in pain. ## Hello, Joe! How are you feeling? Has there been any change? The general rule with antibiotics is that if they are working, you should start to see improvement after a full 3 days of taking them. The Doctor prescribed me this apo-sulfatrim ds 800/160mg, 84tab for 42 days. This is antibiotic and im worried that it will damage my kidney. Should i take all this 84 tablets? ## Hello, Connie! How are you? Do you have a kidney problem? If so, this antibiotic should not be taken. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. If you do not have an existing kidney problem, it can be taken, but you should be advise to drink plenty of water, unless you're on medical fluid restriction, because it has been known to cause kidney stones.

My mother is seventy. Is it ok for her to use for a bladder infection? ## I'm inclined to say that you should see what other options are available for her to use first. This is a generic for Bactrim and as a sulfa based medication, it can cause some severe side effects and the dangerous ones can be even more pronounced and risky in the elderly.
