My dog has bad teeth and gums and I thought a antibiotic would help.which one works? ## Hello, Hoppy! How are you and your furry friend? Please consult your veterinarian, before medication your pet. If the animals teeth are bad, they could be suffering from pain and they may need dental treatment. Is there anything else I can help with?

can you give to pigs for antobiotics for wounds ## Hi Lisa, IP 272 is reportedly identified as Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim DS (800mg/160mg). From what I could gather, this antibiotic is not FDA-approved for veterinary use. However I have read about several cases of veterinarians still prescribing Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim DS for cats and dogs... Pigs on the other hand, I have no idea. But what I would recommend doing is disclosing all of your animal's medication history to the veterinarian in order to better determine whether Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim is the most appropriate form of treatment. I hope this helps!

How many milligrams of Xanax is safe for a hundred pound dog to take to make it comfortable to give an enema? ## How many milligrams is SAFE? Well considering that xanax alone is nearly impossible to overdose on; a 100lb dog could "safely" take upwards of 500mg of xanax and not be harmed. That would be a good nap for sure! However that would be way too much. You did ask what was "safe" though. lol. In all reality it probably won't actually take any more than 2 mg or less.

cephalexin cap 500 mg #294/294. is this the same as cephalexin for people ## Hi, Jean! How are you? And yes, since it is a medication that's used in both, there's no need to manufacturer a separate supply for veterinary use, so the same ones used by your vet are what you may receive from your pharmacy. Learn more Cephalexin details here. With the high safety and quality standards required by the FDA, it is safe for some medications manufactured for people to be used in our pets. However, the obverse is not true, since those manufactured specifically for animals are not so strictly controlled. Is there anything else I can help with?

This is a steroid that is used to treat various medical conditions, such as inflammation, and allergic reactions. It may cause weight gain, and nausea as side effects in dogs. What are the side effects of this drugs in dogs? Is lose of appetite one of them? ## Hello, Based on my research, the Tussigon (Hydrocodone bitartrate + homatropine methylbromide) could possibly cause a dog to lose his/her appetite due to the fact that one of the common side effects is nausea/upset stomach. It is not uncommon for medications to cause these kinds of issues in humans and animals. If you have a dog that is experiencing a loss of appetite, I would contact a veterinarian as soon as possible. I hope this helps! ## My dog lost her appetite when taking Tussigon. She also had problems with her bowel movements which I attributed to her eating so infrequently. ## Unfortunately my little Angel died on February 7th. She would have been 15 on July 1st. I wish everyone success with th...

I have a 25-28 lb. Pug. She has an ear infection, and I have no money for the vet. I do have some Bactrim that I had a reaction to, and I am wondering if I can cut it in half to give her? I know we used to use Bactrim ?TMP when I worked in an animal shelter, but that was over 20 years ago, and I don't remember the dosages. Thank you. ## Hi Sherry, Based on my research, the usual initial dose of Bactrim for dogs is listed at 13 milligrams per pound, to be taken twice daily (12 hours apart). So for a 28lb dog, that would bring each dose to 364 milligrams (13 x 28 =364), amounting to a total daily dose of 728 milligrams (364 x 2 =728). However, just to be on the safe side it would probably still be a good idea to also contact your local veterinary office with a simple inquiry regarding...

I have Pota Vi Kin 400,000 U tablets. Can I give to my 40lb. cocker spaniel? He has a bacterial eye infection. If so, how much should I give him? How often and how many days? ## This is not an antibiotic, what you have listed is a potassium supplement that is used to treat, or prevent potassium deficiencies. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, and stomach pain, due to the potency, so they should only be taken with food. What medication has your vet prescribed for your pup? It would be best to follow their instructions on what to give your dog. Have they confirmed your pup has a bacterial eye infection?

10 pound dog ate 20MG Lisinopril tablet. what will happen ## Have you contacted your veterinarian? I am sorry, but our website and any knowledge of my own is geared to the use of medications and their effects on humans, we really don't have much information on their use in canines. This is commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions, so it could affect his heart rate and etc. Did you contact your vet?

Can it be used in a dogs ear? As for redness, ## Hi nancy, Based on my research, Terramycin can be used for ear infections, in humans and dogs. Terramycin contains the active ingredient Oxytetracycline which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, active against a wide variety of bacteria. However, some strains of bacteria have developed resistance to this antibiotic, which has reduced its effectiveness for treating some types of infections. Side effects are mainly relating to the digestive system, and photosensitive allergic reactions common to the tetracycline antibiotics group. It can also damage calcium-rich organs, such as teeth and bones, although this is very rare. I would give your veterinarian a call if you're unsure of the dosage for your dog. You can learn more about this drug on...

My 15 year old dog has arthritis in his hind legs. He is about 50 pounds. Can I use a 325 mg. Ascriptin to treat him or should I use one or two 81mg coated aspirin? Suggestions will be helpful. Thanks. ## Well, unfortunately, this site is not medical professionals, nor are we veterinarians, this is an information only website that deals with prescription medications for human use. What has your Vet recommended? ## First I will say that I am not a vet; however, I have a 45 pound dog that was crying out with severe lower back and leg pain last September. I took him to a vet and he prescribed the following. 3 each 50 mg Tramadol (a mild opiate) and 2 each 325 mg Ascriptin per day. The results have been miraculous for 9 months "and going". Why can't I find this drug..?? ## Hello, Scott! How are you? Tussigon does require a prescription, but most pharmacies should have it, if your veterinarian has written one for you. However, if your pharmacy doesn't have it, then your veterinarian most likely will, since they prescribe it frequently. One of the active ingredients in it is Hydrocodone, which is a narcotic and that's why it requires a prescription. Side effects for dogs can be similar to those in humans and may include nausea, drowsiness and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

can I give my dog Bactrim for what looks like an abscess on her front baby teeth/tooth she is about one and half yrs old and constantly chewing on her ball and other toys. would his be caused by her chewing. just looks like two little bumps on the back of her front baby teeth ## Hi Connie, If you haven't done so already, I would definitely encourage you to get in touch with a veterinarian when it comes to powerful antibiotics of the likes of Bactrim. Hopefully you can take your dog to go see one in person to determine if it is in fact an abscess or not. I've just seen so many negative reports here pertaining to side effects associated with Bactrim in particular that I'm very partial to the idea of it being given to an animal. This isn't to suggest that it's not a via...
