I have a UTI and was taking urovec with tetracycline for 1 day and the discomfort of the uti has not subsided at all! I want to switch over and start taking amoxicillin asap which has worked really well in the past. I was prescribed cipro to treat a uti. I stopped taking it after 3 days due to tendinitis symptoms. Today, 2 days after I stopped taking cipro I noticed that all of my fingernails on both hands are dark pink. Could this be another side effect such as kidney damage? ## Hello, KM! How are you? However, I will say that most antibiotics I've taken for bacterial infections have been prescribed for an average of 7-10 days; and I've personally never heard of anyone walking away with a 5 day prescription of antibiotics, but I'm sure there are some of those cases out there with minimal infections. My doctor told me that Cipro or Bactim are very good for treating UTIs caused by E-Coli, but that Nitrofurantoin Mono_MCR is better than the other two for treating UTIs caused by staph infection. My doctor prescribed me 100mg 4x a day nitrofurantoin for 3 days. I finished taking them but my diarrhea didn't stop. I just took left over amoxicillin and nitrofur for a Uti that just became really bad. I'm hoping this will hold me over until I can call my dr tomorrow.
