Taking Subutex And Percocet Together (Page 11)

Updated

My doctor just put me on subutex along with percocet. I've been on percocet for yrs for severe and chronic migraines. He told me to take the subutex and if it doesn't work to take a percocet. I usually take 15 mg percocet at a time. I've read some stuff online that worries me. Some people say if you take percs with subutex you'll go into withdrawals. I went through severe withdrawals with fioricet months ago and I don't want to go through that hell again. I took my first subutex about an hour ago and I still have a migraine so I want to take a perc now. Can I do that or will I get sick?

Why would you take an opiate with Subutex unless you are either prescribed it or for recreational use? Most people who are given Subutex are given that to help come off of or stay off of traditional opiates. When you ask if you will "feel it", do you mean to ask if you will feel "high"? If you are trying to feel high maybe you need to enter a rehab facility. I was hooked on my pain pills and went through OP rehab. I started on Suboxone but was transitioned to Subutex after I was released from the rehab facility to my new pain clinic. I do have legitimate pain that needs to be addressed, but I can't take opiates without abusing them. Actually, the Subutex helps my pain far better than taking four 15mg Oxycodone ever thought to!! I take three 8mg buprenorphine sublingual tabs daily. It's been a life saver for me!! I have 132 days sober from any mind altering substances and love it!!! I hope you aren't trying to abuse opiates, but if you are please get help! I wasted 6 good years of my life in pain pill addiction! Life is great now!!!

Why don't u keep ur opinions to yourself? The past doesn't ask about recovery so keep it to yourself.

Sub's block. Partial agonist/antagonist. Meaning it triggers and blocks the receptors at the same damn time. Buprenorphine (subutex) covers ur receptors. Blocks everything else. If ya got buprenorphine in ur system u ain't gonna feel ANY other opiate

Wrong. Subutex has no opiat blocker. You should still feel a perk.

You people are confusing these others looking for help. It is now a common practice for a pain manager to prescribe subutex with opiates for severe pain. I have been on morphine and subutex for two years now and it is a wonderful combo. Things are changing and the pain management world understands the benefits of using subutex with opiates. The FDA just approved an extended BUP patch that pain managers prescribe with opiates for break through pain relief. Don't listen to these others who can't differentiate between subutex and suboxone. Talk to your physician about this new concept of using both in combination for pain management. Suboxone is used to help get off opiates and other major addictions and subutex is used for pain and has been for many decades now. Good luck!

I've had two decades of nightmarish pain. Most pain management doctors failed miserably rotten attitudes and lousy approaches to medicine. Pain management doctors must be the bottom of the barrel, I would love to print names and cities. Anyway a couple of more progressive doctors Ive encountered saw value in mixing Percocet and Subutex for sever pain. They even saw a value in surgery for a really bad spine. Now because of forward leaning doctors and a surgeon willing to do a radical spine surgery I don't need to cocktail stuff once thought unmixeable. I never had withdrawals, I never got crazy high (sorry recreational users) it just cut mind bending pain.

So I think I understand I have been taking 6 10mg percs a day for the last 3 years I am not getting the same relief as I had in the past and don't like the addictive feelings ! I have subutex and I shouldn't have any problems trying a quarter in the morning correct?

I think it all comes down to each individuals own chemical makeup. Some can take Subutex some do better with Suboxone. Some have to wait out the whole shelf life. Some don't. Some are more immune to opiates some are not. I mean let's get real. everyone is different.....Heck, sometimes I feel my perc 30's after being off of Subutex within hours, sometimes it takes me more percs to feel anything. Sometimes I only wait 12 hours, or less & take Suboxone after my percs. Either way......personally I have never experienced any withdrawls fron Suboxone or Subutex. Now I am prescribed just Roxi 30's @ 6 daily. It's what works for me. I have been on pain meds for 10 yrs now. I hate it cuz I have tried, w/doc, several combos of meds & am sick of these drugs controlling my life! However, I refuse to suffer so I continue. Please people.....it's natural to ask advice from others however, we really are all different and the best advice I could give would be to seek counsel with your physician. If your just taking to experience the high & don't have a doc then please just be careful folks. Peace Out.......

I have been taking suboxone for a few months but ran out,I took 4mgs over the last three days then took 2mgs today,my question is can I take a couple perc's to help with the WD till I get my suboxone filled??

Depends. I just went from Monday around 5pm to today (Friday) until 10:30 am until I was able to get my perc 30's back into my system. I stopped taking the subxone yesterday around 1pm and was fine on that. I also however, took lil pieces off of the sub as needed (prn) which in all totaled approx. 20 mg. throughout that time. The half life on that stuff is amazing. If you only have a few days to go you may be able to get through it with just a lil tummy sickness (Diar----). I am not a doc or anything this is just based on my personal experience so just be careful in take lil pieces cuz it does stretch. I use it to take the edge off of the withdrawls and am happy not to be suffering really bad.

I have been on subutex for years now. Recently, I got new insurance and they refused to cover my script. I filed an appeal and paid out of pocket for an amount of subutex I could afford. While I waited for the appeal, I ran out of subutex and took some Percocet to avoid getting sick. I didn't feel the effects from it obviously because I still had subutex in my system and it blocks the receptors in the brain that allow a person to feel the effects like a non-subutex user would. - but it did keep me from going through withdrawal. I finally got my prescription of subutex filled. I had been on the percs for a few days, taking maybe 20mg or so per day. I waited a few hours after my last dose of perc to take one of the 2mg subutex. I felt absolutely fine. I was a little worried that it would cause PAWs... But I assumed since I had been on subutex for so long that it was still on the receptors somewhat. I don't recommend mixing drugs like this to anyone... However I wanted to share my story in case anyone else out there is going through what I did with their meds. I can't wait to be medication free again!

Taking a Percocet after taking subutex (buprenorphine) will NOT send you into withdrawals! I've had to take it for additional pain. It doesn't "stick" to your receptors that well but will give some added relief. No, you won't get a "buzz" if you are taking both. It's going from strictly Percocet to suboxone that will send you into withdrawals. Subutex and suboxone are NOT the same drug! Suboxone has Naloxone in it to reverse any other opiates on your receptors. Some people here (who either may not know what they're talking about or are trying to scare people-either of which I find reprehensible) don't know what they're talking about. If you don't believe me ask a trusted pharmacist!!

You won't get sick. I've taken subutex and opiates 1 hour later. I've also taken subs and diazepam right after so your ok buddy, no worries. Just don't take the percocet and 10 minutes later take the subutex. You have to wait for the perc to be gone and be going into detox.

Yes I would wait til you start feeling sick and start off with a quarter or half. You can always take more but you can't take back what's already been taken ??

I ran out of my Subs thanks to a friend stealing them from me and I've been on these and methadone both. They told me the withdrawals from subs was nowhere near as bad as any opiates, methadone, etc. Well that's BS, for me anyway I went through five days of pure hell. Well mainly day 3-5 but everyone's different I guess. I did learn even if you take 2+ a day if you are running short a little is waaay better than none. Just a heads up if anyone gets in the situation I was in, I learned the hard way. Also to not trust anyone around my meds. Hope this helps someone.

Everyone is different. I have fibro and am prescribed subutex. I had some percocet left over from a previous prescription and took that shortly after taking subutex because I needed more pain relief. The combination actually got me pretty dizzy.
